Meatrix? Nice liberal action there blue.

As opposed to what, the current governments stellar action with the food supply?

The current government is allowing food producers and scientists to f*ck with the food supply in ways you can't imagine. Pretty soon everything you eat will be genetically modified in some way.

You can't build a better chicken.

51. Doom 3 Tick Rates Oct 22, 2003, 23:18 Tigger

We had a hint of this at Quakecon 2002. After the keynote (I think it was after the keynote) about 20 or 30 of us piled into a room for a little Q and A with John C. I seem to remember him discussing tick rates and how it was going to limit the maximum multiplayer limit. I guess it makes sense that setting a hard limit imposes a relative performance from all machines in multiplayer and probably does something to guarantee a certain level of performance overall.

Doesn't really matter anyway - 60fps is certainly fast enough.

Of course, everytime I say that I feel a little like Bill Gates - "No one will ever need more than 640k"

15. Release to Steam Oct 15, 2003, 08:52 Tigger

Maybe I missed something...but isn't Steam "Valve's new way of getting games into your hands ASAP"? If thats the case, why is CZ being released to Steam on the same day that CZ is going to be in stores.

I think they should scrap this finally and just release the updated maps and game updates in a cs patch(via steam woopee!) and get over it.

Grrrrr

F*ck Steam.

61. CZ, Take 3? Oct 12, 2003, 00:59 Tigger

This game sounds like it's going to have the biggest case of scope-creep we'll ever see in a computer game. Which sucks, really, since this game has so much potential.

13. Happy Anniversary Oct 10, 2003, 11:15 Tigger

Blue,

That means that this domain has been my homepage for:

*Me joining and getting out of the US Army

*5 Dedicated Gaming Computers (Not counting my laptop, work laptop or Dev Machine)

*As long as I've been married

Ok, now I'm starting to feel old.

I guess I should order a T-shirt now, huh?

and no amount of clicking that blue empty space next to the word Play Time: seem to make it work...

Maybe thats the point - see how many silly people click and click to get nothing.

4. Re: Ballmer Translation Sep 17, 2003, 11:08 Tigger

Linux is shaping up to be surprisingly good, and will steal server and desktop market share from us

Thatís basically what I said - just in not so many words.

As for Apple, making the Aqua UI a low cost option for *nix systems and pretty soon you will eat windows OS market share on desktops. Still they had a similar opportunity around 1985 and missed it bigtime due to thinking they were a hardware company - you couldn't make the same mistake twice right?

The issue here is connectivity. Microsoft simply has to say, "We're not supporting connections to any other desktop OS because of security reasons.", and Microsoft-only IT shops will nod their heads and say "Yes, master".

At least for right now - there are significant cost and time factors to migrating desktops to another OS just within one building, let alone the whole enterprise. Microsoft knows this Ė thatís why they've got some pretty aggressive licensing schemes.

In the end (as always), the consumer ends up losing - which really sucks for us.

1. Ballmer Translation Sep 16, 2003, 11:50 Tigger

In his speech, Ballmer addressed a range of other topics, including several Asian countries' efforts to develop a Windows competitor. "I don't think it's likely to prove useful," Ballmer said. "I don't think it's going to wind up being the big competitor we see--even in those markets."

Translation: We're scared. They've got a pretty good product.

He also touched on Apple Computer's position in the marketplace. "Apple is doing some good, innovative work," he said.

Translation: We've got teams of folks working on duplicating it right now.

72. Steam - I actually got it to work! Sep 14, 2003, 02:38 Tigger

Here's what I did:

Downloaded 370MB Steam file.
Backed Up original HL/CS Directory
Installed the shit that is Steam
Restarted for Good measure
Logged in - opened Steam
Waited 3 minutes
Clicked 'Games' and Opened Counter-Strike
Waited 3 minutes
Played CS 1.6 until 1am
Closed Steam restored backup of HL/CS Directory
Played CS 1.5 until 2am

By no means to I like Steam - I'm faking the funk(tm).

74. Steam Sucks Sep 13, 2003, 14:34 Tigger

D/L'ed Steam - as an IT project manager, I try to be a good user and support VALVes initiatives.

Took 2 hours to update my CS. Yeah, that sucked. Although there was a good program on NASA Channel that featured Astronaut Tom Stafford.

In CS - finally - went to bring up the Options menu, nothing happened for 5 minutes (I actually timed it). CS 'not responding' - mad traffic on my router.

Restarted - looked for support. "Steam forums will be back up shortly."

Posted this message on Blues.

Uninstalled Steam.

Glad this isn't my project.
