I think people are forgetting that the President dresses like a civilian, but the bulk of his activities are something that a military commander does. The guy should be wearing a full military uniform, if he wanted to be honest.

No. The President is not a military officer; he is the civilian leader of our government. Presidents USE the military (similar to the way one would use a tool) to carry out or enforce United States foreign policy.

I am curious: What constitutes a 'bulk' of the Presidents duties that are something a military commander does?

I had a friend that had his “professionally” installed, and it was always crapping out on him. I got some info from the satellite provider and using a little simple trigonometry I discovered the installer had it facing almost the opposite direction it needed to be (and as I referenced to earlier, it was not tightened down properly).

Thats why I opted to stick with dialup until cable finally came to my area. I put up my own Dish and never had any problems while people that lived on my road kept telling horror stories like the one you told.

I don't know how an installer can fuck up an installation - you only have 3 axis to worry about - and they GIVE you the angles and data for all 3 - all you have to do is match the hash marks on the dish for 2 of them and know how to use a compass.

Tigger - My main point was that you still have the phone line hooked up/used with satellite - not like most broadband connections.

The maximum upload speed for a dialup modem depends on the modem standard used:

V.90 - 33600 bps
V.92 - 48000 bps

I think the reason they insisted you get the professional installation was because the box you get now is a transceiver - and the microwaves it puts out are quite hazardous to your health. If this is the case, you could get upload speeds close or equal to your download speed, but the latency would kill you - so it wouldn't matter.

(obviously, due to the design of the data requests) extreme latency, relative to online gaming.

Satellite is EXTREMELY slow for gaming - the latency is so bad, you're better off using a 56K modem.

File downloads themselves will hover in the DSL upstream speeds - about 250kbps.

Installation might cost you an arm and a leg - when I checked into it (2 years ago), the installation fee was $600 and they made you get the 'professional' installation. I tried telling them that I installed tactical satellite systems and I knew my way around setting it up - but they wouldn't budge.

No. The numbers aren't in for 2002, but between 1976-2000 Gang Related Homicide was number 1. Drug related was 4, accounting for 5.5%. You better not come back and say "I think" unless you have facts.

Exaclty, but should we bar all 17 year olds from everything that morons happen to sue over for supposedly "causing violence bullshit".

OK, slowly this time - and in plain English.

No. People that raise these lawsuits against games see them as evil or corrupting. They are neither. The issue at stake here (and always has been) whether people of this age are capable of either A) Make a judgment call whether it's real or fake OR B) Are sane enough to know the difference. For good measure, we can add C) Have enough guidence at home to help them with A or B.

REMEMBER - FACTS

I'm not going to respond unless you start to do a little research. I've already wasted more than enough good time checking my own than this is worth.

I NEVER said that violent media causes violence in children or teenagers. What I posted was a link that makes the argument that teenagers don't have the mental capability to make good judgment calls. Is that true of ALL teenagers, certainly not. Let me bold that so that you can read it:

Back to my point, seventeen-year-old kids should NOT be playing this game, because IF they are looney or can't make good judgment calls, WE ALL LOSE. Mom and Dad call to have the game taken off the market. The courts and the people are sympathetic – I mean, he was only 17 years old. The kid couldn’t have possibly been unstable or misguided – no way. It’s ALWAYS the <insert ‘evil influence’ here>’s fault.

And what good does that do anyone? It doesn't do the publisher or the studio any good because they just spent a ton of cash making and putting the game out. I lose, because I like the game and want to play it and the 1st Amendment takes a beating because now it's OK to censor something that might be inappropriate for some part of the population. Let’s be honest, it isn't right for a 5-year-old to see porn, but it doesn't mean that they should suppress that form of media. And the same is true of video games. Just because some people can't distinguish between fantasy or reality, doesn't mean they should take it off the market.

Video games are the flavor of the month - expect it to be something else in the future. And we'll have the same arguments and fight the same battles when it was Dungeons and Dragons and heavy metal music- a few misguided crackheads ruined it for us all.
