It was eight (!) years ago today that Quake II went gold!

That means I've been reading Blues for 8 years.

Scary.

The issue at hand probably has nothing to do with games, other than the fact that they are a ready-made scapegoat.

The real issue here is probably this: Jack Thompson is not a very good attorney and believes that if he attaches to something of controversy, it will make him great.

But it isn't working.

Thank God he isn't a good attorney.

Imagine what would happen if someone hosted a debate between myself (I'm about 30 mins from Jack's office) and Jack about his recent antics and the violence in gaming farce. Now that would be something.

I would pay money to see that shit.

Once again another blues post that can be entirely summed up with:

"My penis is bigger!"
"No MY penis is bigger!"
"No, MINE is!"
"Doody head!"

Etc.

You just saved me from reading 60+ posts of penis envy.

Thanks and well said.

Now see? You posted a subjective beef you have with the game. And I'm not going to dispute it, as I noticed this issue as well. And physics? I personally hated in BC:M when you would bounce off another ship or spacestation like it was a pinball bumper! Immersion is what these games are about, and something like that REALLY takes you out of the universe. Having said that, I've learned to close a blind eye to some of these faults given the games ambitious design. I am a VERY forgiving gamer.

Thanks for proving my point.

I think the saddest thing about all of these Smart threads is that rarely is the quality and make-up of the games he makes ever even touched upon. I for one am all about games. I like what I like. And I don't get too wrapped up in the quirks and idiosyncrasies of the people who make them.

Quality?

2 words: Collision Detection

But that doesn't stop me from trying new ones that come out in Demos or ones that come out for free. I'm hoping I can come back and say, hey it's a decent game.

What exactly makes a 'fanboy' immediately non-credible?

What makes a fanboy non-credible?

Because fanboys get abuse from Derek and thank him for it.

Anybody doing that is not credible. At all. Ever.

I think it's pretty sad that developers like Looking Glass have to close up shop, but a rude prick like Derek Smart, who releases shoddy sub-standard games, is still around. If he was like any normal developer he would have been out of business a long time ago (probably right after the disastrous release of BC3K). But I suppose when your games have a development budget of $2 you can sell 50 units and still come out smelling like a rose.

The reason he isn't out of business yet is because:

1) He threatens to and does sue. If you don't buy his games, he WILL sue you!!

2) The same mindless twits keep buying his games. Fanboys, you fall into this category.

3) Controversy generates interest. The problem is, you don't see anyone going, "Hey, this game IS pretty cool!" Well, at least anyone with any credibility. Fanboys don't count. People that fall into this category are often duped out of $20. But hey, at least it's only $20!

Enough said. This will be my last post about this.

Does that mean you'll go away and get a life? For crying out loud Derek, you keep on saying how this crowd sucks. Get help!

Really.

Get some help.

Besides, it's pretty unprofessional the way you do things. I mean, to detail the proceedings on a message board?

Go get your bootlicking someplace else.

I just don't see why many people waste so much time over this stupid guy? Don't you guys have anything better to do?

I've participated in this kind of thread before regarding Derek, but this time I'm staying out of the 'topic' part of it. But knowing this community, I'll bet that this thread will easily get more than 50 replies.

News Comments > Half-Life 2 EULA Legal Issues?
169. Re: Common Sense Award for Posting Feb 10, 2005, 11:14 Tigger

Yes I'm running using Windows, and no I'm not using IE ( I use Firefox and Thunderbird ) I'm also behind a hardware firewall. As far as I'm concerned steam is a back door to my machine and security risk.

Internet Explorer doesn't constitute all of security problems with Windows. Maybe you should have a read here:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/bulletins/200502_windows.mspx

The point that I'm trying to make is that you are complaining about running a program that you say is a 'security risk' on an operating system that IS a security risk.

Where do I get to choose what files, maps and models I have?

You don't. And that's the point.

If I wanted to make all my models bright pink so they would easier for me to see everyone else while I'm playing or make all the textures see-through so I would know where everyone was, it wouldn't be very fair for everyone else playing online, now would it?
