How is Valve making you use Steam? You can still play HL, CS, and other mods without steam.
Secondly, when did breaking a release date goal become 'lying'? Hm?
Everybody, let's have a little bit of pity for 'zephalephalah'. Unable to deal with the complexities of the real world, he must reduce everything to black and white and then attempt to aggressively insult people who try to show him the shades of grey in the world.
Seriously. Consider for a moment this person who thinks Valve 'lied to him twice' (by announce a release date for HL2) and is now forcing him to use Steam. Perhaps last night Gabe Newell personally waddled to his front door, installed Steam on his computer, then set read-only on his Steam directory so that he could never remove Steam so long as he lives.
Consider the heartwrenching tragedy that this is. Lied to... twice! Then forced to use Steam! The humanity, the pathos, the drama. The sheer agony of what Zephalephalah has gone through...it's nearly beyond my capacity to understand. I suspect only victims of date rape and racial genocide can truly empathize with the deep and everlasting pain that Zephalephalah feels and so shall feel forever and ever. And all because of Valve, because they lied to him twice and then made him use Steam.
So, ladies and gentlemen, when you sleep tonight. Please say a prayer to our Lord and Savior (John Carmack) that Zephalephalah's pain be mitigated somehow. Maybe he can be given the opportunity to touch a girl's breast for the first time. Just a suggestion. My heart goes out to you for the agony you have endured, Zephalephalah.
Lied to. Twice. And made to use Steam...

rock climber, meezy, you fucking IDIOTS crying that the sky has fallen because of this...take a fucking simple economics class and learn about what capitalism is before you blabble away mindlessly for paragraphs about how this is stifling the free market. The real free market, not the false Reaganite one, absolutely DEPENDS on consumer choice and the free flow of information. We are supposed to vote with our pocketbooks, and gaming sites have the right to refuse to do business with something that they disapprove of. You guys don't like it? Then I think you'd live well in some fascist country where the state-run supermarket can charge anything it likes and you will pay for it because there is no other choice.
The Fileplanet-Activision agreement was not some little venture; it did make money, I am sure, but it was also a counterproductve step for Activision. You whine that people are now just expecting 'everything' to be free. It was a GAME DEMO, for god's sake. Did you forget that? Just as Activision's PR liaison said, they have always been free, because that is in the publisher's interest for it to be so. Publishers WILL foot the bill for demo distribution, because it's simply another (comparitively small) expense of advertising, and those developers who insist on counter-productive demo distribution mechanisms which piss of the public will, eventually, go bankrupt. THAT is the free market, not your bullshit 'oh if you cared at all for this country you'd pay fileplanet to get your demo'.

Yes, let's make a sequel to this. Operation Infinite Justice: Aftermath, the intent of which is to hunt down and destroy 'raving lunatic socialist obstructionists', where you hunt down anyone who's not a registered American Republican, one by one.

Uh, yeah, if Doom3's story is about 100 stacked boxes, that'll bring me to my knees.
Who's gonna give half a shit about this, anyway? You'll never see 100 boxes in the game in the same room, and even if you did, WHAT WOULD THAT DO FOR THE DOOM3 STORY EXPERIENCE? Nothing.

Just admit you're a fucking fucktard, Creston. I QUOTED you as saying HL2 didn't exist mere weeks before HL2 was unveiled, you dumb assface. You've been proved wrong again and again on this issue, so your opinion means jack and shit to me.
...And jack left town.

And don't call that 340 'beta test' number, people. It's obviously bullshit. the 340 area code is in the virgin islands. valve is nowhere near there.

Why do you assume that all mods would have to be on steam servers? It's a content delivery system for valve, not for the entire mod community.

Dissing other games when you're hardly even out of the starting block is lame, lame, lame. I didn't see Newell insulting other games for no reason, or at all, for that matter.
And check this out:
IGNPC: The outdoor worlds in the Tribes games have always been a little sparse, so what about environmental effects in Vengeance? Will we see some more neat terrain to look at while we're flying over?
Chris Mahnken: Yeah, we have grasses and trees that sway in the wind.
WOOP-DE-DOO! GRASSES THAT SWAY IN THE WIND! YOU'RE A FUCKING GENUIS!

I didnt think that Halo2 thing looked particularly great. the geometry is so plain and empty compared to the new stuff coming out on PC. I don't have an XBOX but I played Halo a bit. Never liked the controls. The music in the first half is probably the only outstanding thing from that Halo 2 trailer.

Yes, but comparing it to HL is a bit odd considering the age difference. That was then, this is now. Doesn't compare favorably to HL2.
