1. Bastion Aug 18, 2011, 13:40 Frijoles

Bastion is fucking awesome. It made me a man. I wish I could pay the narrator to follow me around in real life and comment on everything I'm doing.

"He went to build a webpage, but used notepad like the programmers of old."
"His lunch went down smooth, like varnish on a new floor."

God that'd be awesome. Anyway, very fun game.

You'll also want to clear your calendar and send your family away for the weekend. Stock up on food and diapers, too.

News Comments > Driver: San Francisco DRM Relaxed
20. Re: Driver: San Francisco DRM Relaxed Aug 18, 2011, 13:35 Frijoles

Not only is From Dust always-on DRM, but it's glitchy (as expected). Took me about 15 minutes over multiple attempts to sync my savegames after playing the game. Settlers had the same issue. If it fails to sync, the next time you play, it just sits there until it's successful. So yeah, fuck you again Ubi. At least it was only $11.

As for the game, turn off the mouse scroll thing. Helps a whole hell of a lot. Or just buy Bastion instead.

I brought the sniper rifle up (yeah yeah, I got the press release) and it started swaying a bit.. and I bunched up and squealed, "It's Deus Ex!"

Game is awesome. I'm now trying not to touch the leaked version any further so I don't spoil it. But it sits there, beckoning me with its goodness.

Agree, it's fun. Now that's it's at 1.0, I'll put more time in to it. I didn't want to risk having my save game get wiped when it moved from beta to release.

- Passwords - people hated having to write down passwords for the terminals. Make it an auto-enter

I found a notepad of mine a few years ago that I kept near the computer for writing down Deus Ex passwords. Brought back a lot of good memories. I'm torn between having it automatically show it off to the side or something after finding it, vs. trying to remember or writing it down.

Does DE:HR use passwords and how do they handle it?

3. Re: RAGE Trailer Aug 12, 2011, 09:54 Frijoles

I don't ever sell my games (too lazy), so I'm still on board to purchase. The DRM comment has me nervous though. If they decided to add that shit, it'll drop to a bargain bin game. Maybe companies should get to that "This is a good amount of hype" phase and then stfu until release date.

Looking forward to that Hard Reset game.....waiting for more reviews and really hoping for a demo.

They said they would have a demo. Something along the lines of (off-hand quote): It's an old-school PC game, and old-school PC games had demos.

Half-Life 2 requires Steam.
Battlefield 3 requires Origin.
Am I the only one who really doesn't care about this?

Half-Life 2 doesn't require me to open a fucking web page to play it.

News Comments > World of Warcraft Hotfixes
3. Re: World of Warcraft Hotfixes Aug 11, 2011, 17:21 Frijoles

Also, some of these hotfixes are for what they consider exploits. They made firelands mobs so they can't be immobilized because they were "easy" to farm solo. This hotfix messes that up. The Death from Above achievement was a pain in the ass, so I guess this makes it easier (I've not been working on it).

So yeah, they do a lot of hotfixes. But they're painless for the most part and tend to fix small things, like heirlooms not being linked in chat (onoes!).

The town screen was replaced with a town window which has a 2D animated view of your town that will update as buildings are added, although not all buildings will have an impact on the town window. Also you won't be able to interact with the town window.

Now that does suck. I think town building was my favorite part.

Is that a serious question? 6 Games and loads of expansions later and the gameplay has barely changed much. Chances are if you like the HOMM series, it's because of the gameplay.

I worry about them pulling a DoW2 or C&C and changing a bunch of shit to make the game "more accessible". We'd probably have heard about it by now though if that had happened.

Anyone in the beta care to comment on the gameplay? Is it worth $60?

Maybe I am different because I 1) use Linux and OS X and 2) don't install into Program Files (games go in D:\Games and apps go in C:\Apps) but I just don't get how UAC is 'annoying'. It rarely pops up and it is a basic security feature present in pretty much every other operating system. It just took Windows forever to catch up.

It's annoying when you're first setting up a computer. Every thing you do requires multiple confirmations. Want to move a link? Better ask 3 times just to make sure. Want to update an ini file? FUCK YOU for thinking you could edit your own custom folder/file from the command prompt without admin rights.

I turn it off because I use the command prompt for most things and UAC hates that. I tell everyone else to leave it on, though. Or turn it back on after everything is configured following a new install.

The casual players are coming out of the woodworks to explain why they left, here and on other forums. I hope the hardcore raiders are shitting themselves seeing that WoW may swing back the other way. If it does.

I quit for the same reasons. Content was too difficult to bother doing. And the Firelands started out cool, but it soon became apparently just how bad of a grind it was.
