Really enjoying the starter zone and garrison area. Keep getting sidetracked, and there seems to be quite a few reasons to explore now. Only level 91, but liking what I see so far.

is now available to pre-order from digital distributors everywhere with a discount available for early purchasers.

Why would an early purchaser need to pre-order? What did I purchase if not the game?

I like to believe that if I had a few hundred million bucks, I'd start hosting a game award show that had some class. Something like Oscars where everyone shows up in a tux. Award best musical score. Award best technical work. Best voice actor/actress. Most immersive game, etc. Sure, there'd be a "best game" too, but it'd be so much more than that. Reward the people making the games, not the games themselves. Give out an awesome statue. Have a classy host.

I can dream. What we have now seems to be a teenager's orgasm on stage. And only the most hyped and marketed games can be a part of it.

4. Re: Evening Patches Nov 7, 2014, 21:14 Frijoles

I haven't played or followed DF-9 for a week, but my guess is not yet. One of the main issues with it, aside from just bugs, is the overall speed of the game. There's a defined time limit in the LUA files. After that time hits, you get a massive pirate attack on your base. They need a toggle to turn that off. I'd be absolutely pissed off if I built a massive base in Dwarf Fortress and had it wrecked after some arbitrary time because I wasn't prepared.

There's also the matter of way too many attacks taking place no matter where you settle. Depending on where you start, you have different amounts of threat. In the lowest threat range, you get attacks about every 5 minutes. And not "shrug 'em off" attacks. Attacks that can kill everyone in your base. Sometimes more than one at a time. It doesn't seem to pay attention to your threat rating. In fact, most of the LUA files just say 33% of whenever it ticks. Again, needs a toggle. Some people (like myself) don't want to play that way.

At least they're still patching bugs. Unfortunately their patches break any changes other people make to the LUA files, so it's not really worth modding until they can support it better.

I hope it's as good as Brink! I kid, I kid. Looks fun, but I didn't see any hat interface. Hopefully it's just an original TF2 game before Valve went crazy. I miss those days.

Sounds like VR has found it's "killer app". I've never been real thrilled about using VR with an FPS, but this sounds pretty exciting.

It's amazing. I can't play the game without my Rift now. It just feels cumbersome to looks around the cockpit with a mouse or joystick. And nothing beats the feeling of watching a ship whiz by overhead as you try to watch where it goes.

Lots of judder and difficult to read some text, but overall a great experience. Just got a gtx980 this week just so I can run VR better. Need to get some time to hook it up now.

Game keeps crashing on me. About 45 minutes in, a hard crash to desktop. Using the latest nVidia drivers but no luck so far. Kinda sucks since the game rewards you for not saving (better loot the longer you go between saving).

With the exception of the characters' lips, it's a pretty game. Facial animation could use some work.

I'm assuming it's folks talking turns throwing the game, so the other person can win?

I wonder how this works in Hearthstone since I thought you were paired with a random person in ladder play. Wouldn't you have to know the person you were playing against?

Every time I see an NS2 post, I think I need to play again. Played quite a bit at release, but not for a while now. Always seemed a bit of a struggle to find a good populated server with only somewhat-asshole people.

I'm hoping the final character wipe is coming soon so I can play. I was enjoying it, but didn't want to waste a ton of time just to have it all wiped out. Looking forward to a stable game.

News Comments > Spacebase DF-9 Released; Free Hack n' Slash for Backers
5. Re: Spacebase DF-9 Released; Free Hack n' Slash for Backers Oct 28, 2014, 12:22 Frijoles

They added a tutorial from alpha to release. And although I see a lot of changes in the size of the lua files, bugs that were in alpha are still in 1.0. I wish they had spent their remaining month working on fixing bugs instead of the damn tutorial. There are things that just don't work. Examples:

1) Turrets won't attack hostile enemies unless you set the turrets to kill everything.
2) The weight bench doesn't place correctly. It vanishes as soon as it you place it.
3) The events.. omg. Every few seconds something is popping up on the screen demanding your attention.
4) Raiders and other events can destroy your base very easily.

The worst part? I fixed all of the above yesterday evening while playing with the LUA files I had never seen before. I even added a toggle to the settings screen this morning to turn raiders off.

So it appears that all their time has gone to the tutorial and none of it to bug fixes. And any bug fixes I make will be overwritten if they ever update the game on Steam since there's no real mod support.

It's definitely a mess. If they want to release it to the community to fix, then I hope they come up with a way to mod the files at least. Or even better, add workshop support. I just don't see that happening though.

Ugh, stuck at low resolution due to some bug...along with 32 pages of other people in the Steam forum suffering the same problem. Not a good sign.

Had the same problem. Turned out to be the 120hz monitor. Setting it to windowed opened up the other resolutions, but then you're in windowed mode. Hopefully they fix it soon.

See if you can find a support department and then remove their foosball table so they get back to work.

I've played about 20 hours but decided to stop. I want to wait for full release so my char doesn't get wiped anymore. I'm really looking forward to that, since I was having a lot of fun in it. Hopefully the galaxy map works a bit better with the joystick now.

Is it true all of the available land that you can build on has already been claimed? How? The game has barely just launched!

All the PvE land on the first few servers was gone within hours of head-start. The remaining land in PvP zones was gone after a day or two of head-start. If you came in to those servers as a non-founder, you had zero chance of finding land for a house. I'm a found and have yet to find any space to build. This is made worse because people can own multiple housing slots with very little cost (taxes are a joke). Combined with the hack to instantly buy demolished lots without even being in the area, and you really have very little chance of finding space without buying it. The cost when I last checked was 300 gold for a small lot. I had 100 gold when I hit level 50.

They just released some patch notes that have a few fixes for gold selling spam. I see no reason to stick around though after my month expires.

My guild is already half-way gone. Seems as soon as people hit 50, they vanish. Myself included. The bot problem and gold selling is so bad, the Faction channel is useless. Housing lots that become available are instantly taken by people who run scripts to snatch them up, in some cases while not even standing there. They then turn around and sell them for a huge amount of gold.

A decent game if not for the MMO part.

I enjoyed Fallen Enchantress to put couple dozen hours in to it (I even played Elemental as best I could). But this just looks way too similar. They're going to have to work harder to differentiate it or I won't buy. I've already played that game.

I backed a good 20 - 30 projects last year (and a bit of the previous year). This year I've backed maybe 2 or 3. I got burned by some games, at least one never sent me a Steam key despite attempts to contact them, and the successful games I can count on one hand and have fingers to spare. Granted most of them aren't out yet.

I've lost almost all hope for Kickstarter. Most of the games I backed, however, are not out yet so there's still hope. And I did back a few things that were not games, so maybe those will pan out and I'll start backing again. For games though, I'll just wait for a full release on Steam (none of that early access shit).
