an entire game based on training? |

hmmm. can this concept sustain an entire single player game? This sounds and feels more like a bonus-pack or add-on rather than a healthy 3rd sequel of the JK single player universe. Then again, there's twice the levels as in JK 2? That can't hurt.

there's a site at www.youplaygames.com, but it is woefully brief, asking for an email for pre-registration. there is also a privacy statement, and a contact email address.

I was surprised too. Its CNN, so I trust the reporting, then again I figured we would have heard something from id in the form of a press release.

mostly underwhelmed |

just not that hot in my opinion. both the video and network performance seem less that what you would expect for an Unreal engine game. there seems to be no ability to run in opengl, which gives better performance for some over D3D, myself included (P3/1000, Ti500, 384 ram). still curious about single player, but for the most part the demo left me disappointed.

HL2 doesn't need to be revolutionary |

I could care less how revolutionary HL2 is (i.e. open ended, trendy physics, etc.) Following a set line along a story is just fine as long as the story and presentation are interesting and well presented. I'd be very pleased if Valve shipped a sequel with solid single-player gameplay. Valve does not need to reinvent the genre again, just deliver a great game. I think if the original HL was done today with current visual tech, it still would be fun. I hope for two things: HL2 sticks to pure single-player, without too much team or squad yadda yadda. One of the components of the original that I loved was the lone-wolf-you-against-the-government player predicament. Two, that Valve draws generously from the rich "Black Mesa" universe.

of Hemingway:
"Our nada who art in nada, nada be thy name thy kingdom nada thy will be nada in nada as it is in nada. Give us this nada our daily nada and nada us our nada as we nada our nadas and nada us not into nada but deliver us from nada, pues nada. Hail nothing full of nothing, nothing is with thee."
