I was up until 4am playing it. It's very much the game I was expecting, after consuming every gameplay video out there. Which is to say, it's a ton of fun.

Classic is proving to be quite a challenge as promised... almost punishing. Thank God I didn't go with Ironman... I'm reloading quite often. There are so many choices in the strategy layer, and so few resources! I'm enjoying the challenge.

The RPS reviewer said this: "When I played it, I played it for some 50 hours and counting. I regret none of that time, I have missed showers, meals and Quality Time with girlfriend, cat and Dishonored in order to obtain it and I want to spend even more of it in XCOM instead of writing these damnable words."

It's interesting that some reviews say they played for 20 hours, but this reviewer spent 50+. Perhaps it depends on the difficulty level? I'm going with Classic.

I'm somewhat annoyed that Dishonored is coming out at the exact same time. FML. Kotaku calls it "Deus Ex meets BioShock meets Thief meets Half-Life." Wow. Wowowowow.

How did this "30 missions per playthrough" myth start? I haven't read anything of the sort.

Anachronox was pretty cool, if lacking in certain ways. Tom Hall hasn't done anything that I care about since, but he clearly has some talent.

Everything I saw from the previous version made me angry. What a loathsome piece of shit that was shaping up to be. This new version looks slightly less offensive, but I doubt I'd care if it turns out to be console-only.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown, on the other hand, looks like it'll be one of the best games of the year.

They probably should have chosen a better gameplay portion to show off to potential owners then, the demo was very underwhelming. You always want a hook, you don't want people unimpressed.

Yep, they definitely screwed up with making the demo so short. For those wanting to see more of the game in action, they did a 1+ hour live gameplay session, available here: http://youtu.be/1VP4YmExQAE

Not that I'm against saving money or anything crazy like that, but at the same time I have no issue paying full price for something like BL2, or Skyrim, or Xcom that I know I'm going to get my money's worth out of.

Hey, good for you. I'm the type who prefers to pay less rather than more, so if there's a sale, I'm gonna take advantage of it. If that drives you crazy, you've got bigger problems.

Yeah I know right? A small section of hell clearly froze over. Total face palm at anyone wanting coop in a turn based strategy game.

And why is that?

Well fuck me sideways, it's just one mission basically. 5gb for that? I was hoping it would be "preview copy"-length.

But yes, it's awesome, and I want more.

EDIT: Also, this game badly needs a multiplayer co-op mode.

Neehaw! So excited!

I haven't pre-ordered yet, as I'm holding out for a decent sale price. Has anyone found any deals, aside from a 10% pre-order discount from Amazon and GMG?

I haven't been gaming a whole lot over the past few months, as it's been a rather dry summer, but it looks like the drought is coming to an end.

Booted it up, spent the last 5 hours straight playing. Granted, it's pretty much the same as Borderlands. This, along with Black Mesa, should keep me occupied for a few more weeks until XCOM and Dishonored come out. And then... it's gonna be a while before I leave my house.

Gah, I hate that they don't use a direct feed to the video for stuff like this. Or let us download the PowerPoint! Or hire a decent camera man... I don't want to watch video of guys watching video.

I mentioned this in yesterday's thread, but I'm planning on trying this out using AirParrot ($10, airparrot.com) with my Apple TV, and an Xbox 360 wireless controller for Windows.

Good timing for Big Picture. I just discovered AirParrot (which does an outstanding job of streaming audio and video from my PC to my Apple TV), and was thinking about picking up an Xbox 360 controller for Windows. Fun!
