News Comments > EA on C&C4's "No" DRM
27. Re: EA on C&C4's "No" DRM Mar 18, 2010, 19:01 Riker

C&C4 sounds like a real stinker... 71% at MetaCritic currently, with GameSpy awarding the game 50%. I'd say what a lousy way to end the series, but every Tibertium C&C game since the original has been pretty lousy. What a shame.

Here's hoping for another Red Alert.

I'm not bothered by lack of a demo anymore; it's quite easy to get ahold of a final copy and try it out.

Guess you haven't heard about the latest WHQL drivers disabled the fan control on your card so the fan would just run at low speed and let your card cook itself. After Nvidia found out about this they pulled the drivers.

I have indeed heard that, so you can imagine my shock when the new drivers were even more volatile and blew up my house. You'd think they'd learn.

It's a failed fad coming back for another failure, I reckon.

There was a story on Joystiq this morning about a fake BSOD they showed at GDC (story here). According to the story the error code seems to hint at an E3 announcement "S U S : P E N D ... U N T ( I ) L ... E E E."

Here's to hoping it relates to a HL2:E3 announcement, but I'm not holding my breath at this point. Especially since the BSOD itself seems to concern GlaDOS.
I wasn't very clear, but this was what I was referring to when I said they released no new information at GDC... pretty disappointing. It's clearly a Portal 2 bit, which is why I'm not expecting Half-Life 3 to be announced at E3; they would want to concentrate on a single game.

I have faith that they will be releasing episode 3. Look how long they were working on team fortress 2. These guys take freaking forever to get stuff done, but it is their prerogative.
It took them only 18 months for Episodes One and Two, and we're currently at about 30 months waiting for the next part... it's not happening. I don't think they've officially announced Episode Three or said a word about it in years, and I doubt they would be spending 3+ years on another episode.

Half-Life 2 felt more like a great engine showcase than an individual game entry anyways.
Creston wrote on Mar 12, 2010, 13:16:
It's hard to beat the original Half-Life, which in essence introduced an entirely new way of handling narrative in videogames, but it's not that hard to beat Half Life 2, I think.

When I played Half-Life 2, my first reaction to it was, "This really doesn't feel like Half-Life," and although I thought the game was a lot of fun, I couldn't help but be somewhat disappointed. I was really wanting to return to Black Mesa because it was familiar and awesome. But I've come to really appreciate the art, and art of making, Half-Life 2. The commentary that came with Episodes One and Two were a fascinating insight into how the games were developed, and it has changed how I look at them. More than a game, the world they created is so intensely believable, which few games seem to pull off.

Half-Life 2 is one of the best-crafted games ever made, but if anyone can come close to it, it's Valve. Portal was a great set-up, and I look forward to seeing that world fleshed out (even though it's technically the same universe as the Half-Life games).

I was really hoping they'd be revealing Half-Life 3 at E3, since they announced Portal 2 last week. But since they released nothing new at GDC, I'm expecting E3 will be all about Portal 2 with not a word about Half-Life 3... bah.

I would just like to meet Gabe personally, look him straight in the eye, and say, "You have no intention of doing another Half Life, do you? Just say it so the rest of us can move on." Ugh.
Oh please. You don't really believe Valve isn't releasing another Half-Life. Obviously if they were doing another episode, it would've been released by now, so it stands to reason they're working on a full game. Episode Two came out about 2½ years ago, so I predict that E3 2011 will have the big Half-Life 3 reveal, followed by a release before Christmas, making it about 4 years since Episode Two.

Yes, it sounds like the spirit of the game matches up with Deus Ex 1, which is great news. I read this in the interview, however, which left my head scratching:
"Being a prequel to the original game, our story starts about 25 years before the start of the first game."

25 years? That seems a bit much... is the player going to be clunkier than even Gunther or Anna from the first game? That's going back way too far. I didn't even realize it was a prequel.

For $180/year ($15 x 12), I can buy a suitable video card and KEEP the games I buy... what a fucking concept. OnLive was an interesting idea, but after hearing this news today, it's not for me at all.

A minigame isn't going to work. If they wanted to make a good BSG game, I can only picture a big-budget, big-name studio game. We'll see.
