I just finished COD4 and enjoyed it quite a bit.

It's very well done. And its compelling enough that it had me playing to the end.

Psychonauts is another one that I just finished that I also played all the way through.

On a short trip to the store, I bought some minor baby items we still needed. I bought a baby monitor, two baby changing pads, 3 pad covers, and some diaper ointment.

I spent $134. Expensive baby.

Hump, do you have Verizon Fios?

It sounds like you have a problem caused by the router that Verizon gives out to its Fios subscribers.

no im sure dumping ludicrously large amounts of C02 into the atmosphere can have nothing but a positive impact on the world. It makes total sense, after all.

Yeah, that's why volcanic eruptions really suck. So much CO2 gets released.

I'll help him out:

Here's a professor at that little university in Cambridge. What was it called again... MIT? Who's ever heard of that?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Lindzen

The only rebuttals I've seen about him have been ad hominem. Science is not disqualified just because of who's paying for the grad students.

He didn't get to be a professor at MIT by being a wack job. Science has to be answered by science, not by changing the subject about funding.

Batman, if you're going to buy a car soon, you should read this article:

I am assuming you are going to used car dealerships, or did you mean you were going to private party sale?

Dry spell?

I'm too busy trying to play Bioshock, COD4, and The Orange Box. Not to mention squeezing in some Halo 3 time on the 360.

I definitely need some time to catch up, so I don't see it as a dry spell. Just a "playing" spell.

In California it's a hard "G" sound, and is reflected in the dictionary.

Hrmm, are you saying that in CA, giblets are pronounced with a hard g sound? I'm not sure I believe that. It may just be that everyone who's around you mispronounces it, and you think its a regional thing, when it really is a household thing.

I think giblets is really pronounced with a j-sound. If you can find a dictionary to contradict this, then please let us know.

With that said, I still pronounce "gib" with a hard-g sound. Us, unwashed heathens have taken over the word, and that's just how we pronounce it. As with any language, the "right" way is the way the majority of the people speak.

So Riley (aka. >U) can you please inform us how evil Valve is for doing this? There must be some catch.

So Riley, that developer you work for, will you guys be using any of this new free stuff?

Valve copied Pixar's art, fool. For the game itself, Valve copied Quake's team fortress.

You do know that Valve bought Team Fortress Software, and Robin Walker, one of the creators of the original TF, is a developer for TF2.

So Robin's copying his own creation by making a sequel? Man, and EA just copied Battlefield 2 from that 1942 game, what was it called again?

And as for the art, I guess you didn't go through the TF2 commentaries. Which surprises me, since I know how big of a fan of Valve you are. The art style they were "influenced" by was J.C. Leyendecker.

So >U (aka. Riley) which game developer do you work for again? I forget.

Gamers will be able to buy items which customise their appearance in the world, but will not be able to seek an advantage through buying weapons.

Uh huh. How long do you think that plan will last?

Once they establish a player base, they can "change" their mind and come out with some great extra weapons or power ups.

Then it will be free to be cannon fodder, but you can pay to actually be able to hit what you aim at.

Okay, let's work this out: I said:
the concern is that its easy to slip into a mindset that you can easily pull the trigger without any consequences.

You said:
You can. Period.

Ah, I thought you were saying that you can pull the trigger without consequences because tasers don't cause death. I realize now that wasn't what you probably meant. In my defense, the extra "Period" gave me the impression that you were trying to disagree.

And so I was just trying to say that the reason to use force still has to be valid. Because you'll always have a reason (your dog died, your wife left you, the guy looked at you funny.)

I have close family members who also serve, so don't get me wrong. I strongly support our police officers. However, my point is about training on deciding when to use force.

You can. Period. You have to remember, you taser the person for a reason.

No, an officer can't just taser someone walking down the street without identifying himself and for no other cause other than he was having a bad day. There are consequences, just like any other instrument of force such as a baton.

My point was focusing on the proper reasons to use force.

Why? Because someone with a pre-existing heart condition who would normally be able to live out their life just fine, but 10 taser shocks in a row would put them into cardiac arrest, then maybe the guy with the taser caused their death?

Otherwise, that's like saying guns don't kill people, blood loss does.

My point is that the bar of when to use force should not become lower just because there is a perception that there are no consequences. You don't know everyone's medical condition, so it is important to follow proper training in deciding when its necessary to use force.

I agree when force is necessary, I think tasers are great and have probably saved many lives.

For example, this officer was suspended for this incident:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avFLFN3UY0g
He tasered the driver 45 seconds after pulling him over (for going 5 mph over the limit, the rear license plate is in the back window). He didn't give the driver time to obey his orders before tasering him.

And most departments have policies that officers should lean against tasering the really old and really young. Policies and training are there for a reason, it's important to follow them. That's all I'm saying.

We had 6 do it this time around....and *GASP* none of them died! Amazing.

Well, how many times did you taser them? Once, or multiple times? Any of them over 55 or had a history of heart trouble? Or are they generally fit and capable of chasing down a fleeing suspect?

Now if you tasered 6 people over 55 with heart trouble multiple times (5+) and none of them died, then I'd think that's amazing.

Don't get me wrong, I think everyone should have a taser. But I think it's use should continue to be viewed as harsh force. I think the concern is that its easy to slip into a mindset that you can easily pull the trigger without any consequences.

Though, I'm looking forward to the day when we figure out how to safely ionize air with a laser to deliver current in a handheld weapon.
