How is it that the radioactive plume moves slower than the debris that's already made it from Japan to the West Coast?

I'm still not sold on Cryengine being a good match for a space sim but we'll see I guess.

I'd be interested to hear your concerns. This looks pretty good to me. So does this. Both of these are game engine footage.

let's just hope the cut scene cinematics are equal to actual gameplay.

my main concern is that the engine feels more suitable for FPS type games, it doesn't exactly stream content on the fly like you would need for a game of this scale given the level of detail one expects from the game. I just hope it doesn't have that "shoehorned" feeling you get from some games that use engines that aren't designed from the ground up with the clear objectives they set out to achieve.

This is just like Hollywood churning out superhero movies every year but unlike Hollywood where you have to deal with aging actors with massive egos you just can't put out a blockbuster "wining formula" Batman movie every year, but I'm sure they would love to keep that machine going.

I doubt there will be a Battlefield 5 next year, it'll be Star Wars Battlefront/field instead.

And lastly there's a huge cost with making things too realistic that most companies have chosen to eschew pushing things to the hardware limit. With fewer games pushing the hardware, there's less incentive to upgrade.

For some people it's all about being able to max out the sliders and still have a playable frame rate. I tend to turn off almost all of the extra "effects" if I can because I find it annoying to have motion blur, depth of field and lens flares everywhere.

If nothing else hopefully the "next gen" console ports start to look much better texture wise, having to suffer through the limitations of PS3 and xbox360 ports has been pretty bad.

SSD was one of the best upgrades I've done in a long time, especially for slow loading games like Battlefield 3. I read they screwed up the compression of the files or something, only the DLC packs seem to load off of mechanical hard drives with reasonable times.

Get an SSD just don't skimp and think it's only good for a boot/OS drive. You'll want all your main applications installed on it as well as a few games.

They'll have an open beta next month so we will see before release.

Dice is treating it as nothing more than a stress test, they usually pick a stable yet older build to do this with. Any broken or missing features are just assumed to be made to work by release. Everyone likes to spew "It's BETA!!!" when you complain about said missing or broken features.

If you're pubbing that's one thing, though why anyone pubs in shooters is beyond me to begin with. Other wise it's a one click bookmark on TS to get on with all your friends, it's not rocket science.

Some people can't always play with friends, it's not rocket science. Pubbing largely sucks because of the lack of coordination and voice chat helps with that.

An open mic in your ear with some fools horrible music playing in the background, people speaking foreign languages, people trying to be armchair generals bossing everyone around.

That's my experience with voice chat in games that have it.

I just really hope they don't release it in a horrible buggy mess like they did with MoH:Warfighter. They set it to always on and voice activated by default at release.

This looked like a crappy tellatale adventure game in the making, I didn't see anything that reminded me of classic Sierra adventure gaming.

If they insist on supporting xbox 360 and PS3 then whatever they put out for Star Wars won't be all that great.

I'd make games based on Han Solo using the old books that put him in the Corporate Sector. No force powers, little Empire, but solid stories with interesting atmosphere.

They need more than just a new CEO, they need to reinvent their entire business culture. Google has taken over as the relaxed think tank college campus that Microsoft used to be. If they can't get rid of the large business bureaucracy then nothing is going to change for the better.

Well that trailer saved me from wasting any time actually downloading it, they even conveniently showed a glimpse of the insane amount of microtransation based items.

This is going to be just like Black Ops 2, dedicated servers with no direct control over them and no ability to pick which server you play on.

The only benefit is you don't have host migration but everything else feels the same as peer-2-peer matchmaking.

They could get a small following with releasing it as a commercial project but people are going to forge ahead with zombie mods on Arma III and DayZ is already painfully dated. Looks like they thought it would be a quick trip to retail but got taken in with mucking about adding features to Arma II engine.

I'm sure the imprisonment of the developers didn't help any.

What the target demographic for these titles? 40-60 yrs?? Sometimes you have to let an IP GO..........

The IP is still viable, and target demographic is people who grew up in the 80's watching the movie. No little kid can afford those figures.
