Played the beta for a couple hours and I'm not totally sold on it. The world felt empty and I was pretty bored with not much to do. Compared to a real MMO this game has a shockingly low number of quests. The environments are nothing more than pretty hallways you run down, there are only a handful of buildings that you can actually enter and explore.

The side missions feel like fluff you would encounter in games like Saint's Row. Only 10 main missions in the game is baffling. It looks pretty although no where near as good as the initial videos showcased.

I had that same feeling, some of the side missions do open up the inside of buildings though.

the initial video at E3 2012 was more a "this is what we hope it looks and plays like". I don't think they went horribly off-course with the visuals but the gameplay is rather repetitive. It really could use at least a little bit more survival aspects to it, needing to eat and drink etc.

disappointing about the lack of any form of cheat protection for PvP, that's a pretty big chunk of the game to give up.

It really needs about six more months of refinement but that's not going to happen.

It looks like a survival game but it's really more like Borderlands.

The game is alright for a casual third person shooter, the main problem is going to be the copy and paste task missions - clear out this area and free these hostages. I played that mission at least three times without much variation in the physical space modeled in the game either - same generic storefront with a room off to the side where the hostages are. You don't even have to escort them back to safety.

The AI is more like moving targets that lob grenades and such but if you backtrack a little bit they don't pursue you so you can hang back and snipe them. I guess they should block your point of exit into these mini arenas to up the challenge.

They really could use a randomize routine on the way the bad guys look and dress. It's like they all shopped at the Hoodie r Us store.

Sure most of the story stuff is locked out of the beta but you can extrapolate what the game will consist of from the beta.

I'd buy it for $35 or so.

We've decided to split it into three games. Sq42, SC and Star Marine.

little while latter

four games, all the above plus Star Racing.

maybe they can charge extra per episode of Sq42

News Comments > The Division Beta Filling Up
9. Re: The Division Beta Filling Up Jan 30, 2016, 04:38 DangerDog

I'm not seeing a co-op story here (scratch that, I see you can play the story mode with other people), you play in the open world area by yourself and then you can do some of the missions with 4 player co-op but they're more like an optional mini PvE arena, you can do these solo as well. Maybe some in the retail game are more lengthy and challenging.

The open world part doesn't have any other players in it. Then you have this "dark zones" PvP arena which just about excludes a solo player. The only object there is to kill other people for their loot and "extract" it via a point on the map where a helicopter flies in.

The survival aspect is pretty weak, no stamina bar so you can run full out forever and you can regenerate your health with a magic spell like device or a med kit. You don't need to sleep, eat or drink. Finding and eating an energy bar will remove "disorientating" effects from some grenades (which don't last long enough to bother with) and drinking a soda will give you a buff for something, I can't remember.

You can't crouch or go prone, you can roll, toggle cover and mount some things to climb over them or up/down ladders.

It's very casual, the atmosphere makes up for some of it but it feels lifeless in that you can't interact with anything in the environment. In the beta anyway all the bad guys are hoodie wearing generic looking bad guys. You can't kill civilians but you can shoot dogs and rats - the wild dogs don't attack you either.

The shooting mechanics aren't too bad for a third person shooter, you can even look down your scope in first person view - a bit with a slightly annoying one second blur to focus effect triggered when you look through it every time.

It's fun but more like sub $40 worth of fun, I doubt they'll take the time needed to make any big changes to the game since it's due out March 8th.

I just left the Steam forum. Apparently the game is now %10 off on Steam while those who preordered paid full price. Ha! Let the shitstorm begin!

I'm sure there was some pre-order bonus crap for the game, there always is.

I wouldn't trust any of those numbers. When asked how they obtained player counts, they responded with:

Fetching data of another service is not as hard as many people think Nowadays with all the technology and all the different programming languages, it is nearly as easy as writing your own name.

We can't share how we do it. The numbers are fetched every 5 minutes from EA servers.

True, we are not related to EA/DICE in any way but nobody needs to be related to anybody to be able to do stuff online.

It seems amazing that this particular website can do what nobody else can apparently do.

you're right, the numbers are probably much lower on the PC. It sure feels that way when you try to find a game and nothing comes up.

Hahaha. Sorry, that was mean, but the beta was enough to tell almost everyone this wasn't worth $0, let alone the season pass price.

I thought it sounded mildly interesting and watched a few previews/lets plays. And 5 minutes in, I'm thinking "That's it? That's all you do?"

Go go Turdrock!

I'm glad I only wasted a short amount of time downloading and playing the alpha.

Unless they do something original and creative with the settings and gameplay for Battlefront I don't see this series lasting year in and out.

Despite the rumblings of the over vocal minority I don't think a game based on the prequels or force awakens would be an easy sell.

That's really cool of them to post that kind of roadmap AFTER selling millions of season passes in advance. But I guess that's just what happens when shit meets a million brainless flies.

Who's the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?

Anyone buying either the $120 super special edition deluxe version or the $50 season pass before even getting a hit as to what is in it is a fool.

It's far more popular on the console than the PC, even if you like the game it'll be a waste of money to buy any of the DLC.

http://swbstats.com/

This is Titanfall all over again, not a horrible game but complete lack of players kills the online only aspect of it. They should have had bot support for the different modes but from what I've read that isn't going to happen, neither is a proper server browser so you can at least queue up to play on the few remaining active servers.

Hopefully it's set in either the OT time period or leading up to it. I just can't get behind the Disney changes to Star Wars in the slightest, even the recycled early concepts of Ralph McQuarrie Storm Trooper designs feel off.
