People already willingly give up their personal details to Facebook so I don't think MS will have any trouble selling this to the masses, privacy concerns will go out the window.

From a health perspective, isn't it considered bad for your eyes to be constantly shining IR light into them? With the Kinect always on requirement won't people be freaking out about that?

Developers are in a tight spot right now, they need to keep pumping out xbox 360 games while appeasing xbox "one" gamers with some extra flashy graphic bits.

at least for the most part the games shown weren't some "this is what we hope it looks like" rendered animations. The EA sports one is probably guilty of that.

I find the Blu-Ray player in the xbox pretty amusing

They're trying to slide that one under the radar.

Along with the online requirements and Kinect datamining, looks like that patent was the real deal.

The details are still fuzzy, but according to the Wired article there will be offline games. Though it seems there must at least an online activation for each game.

Are developers forced to create games that have these online features, and are thus not playable offline? They are not, Xbox exec Whitten said to Wired but I hope they do. So the always-online future may come in incremental steps.

no more playing console games that are sold before their "release date".

Just what the world needs, more gameplay footage on youtube.

If I were running google I'd impose a nominal monthly fee to do so from either platform, say $30.

How can the game support three screen gaming but not allow you to alter the FOV for single monitor use?

So how does an 18-year-old get the equipment to physically be able to construct said prototype of a supercapacitor?

What? Your high school didn't offer nanochemistry?

The first place went to a 19 year old that hacked together an automated driving system using a webcam.

The tablet controller is a gimmick failure, only unlike the Wii which at least had Wii sports to trick people into buying the system - Nintendo can't seem to come up with a game that makes the tablet stand out.

I've been enjoying making Gordon Ramsay's BBQ sauce, http://www.aglugofoil.com/2012/10/smoky-pork-sliders-with-barbecue-sauce.html

I also use a ketchup that doesn't have high-fructose corn syrup in it and like having control over the brown sugar I put in. Never have been a fan of the artificial "smoke" flavor.

Using Alien in the title of your game might be slightly toxic to your sales right now.

The PC is DEAD, Windows 8 is a failure, console sales are crashing into the ground and the replacements wont show any form of profit for years...

meanwhile

Microsoft is trading at 5 year high.

wtf?

Of course EA wants everyone to have access to online, now they'll pimp micro-transactions even more.

I think they deserve a break ...

Nope, again this didn't fly at them out of left field. All these smart, hard working guys couldn't even reflect on the fact that the previous game had FOV issues on the PC?

If you care about the art of making games then you have to care about more than the final product.

not so much on the PC apparently.

At first I was really excited for this new VR tech but I'm starting to get pretty concerned about the health implications for prolonged use.

I can game for hours at a time and people have said their eyesight goes so wonky after just thirty minutes of use that they feel like it would take a good chunk of time before they would feel comfortable driving a car for example.

Perhaps this is just a new form of motion sickness that a few people get when playing FPS games, I'm not one of those yet I don't want to screw up my vision any more than it already is.

HoSpanky, how long have you worked for 4A Games and why did you fuck this up when making the game?

Every time this issue comes up the devs want to pretend like they've been blindsided by something that nobody in the history of making games has ever thought of.

If you're going to be mutiplatform then you need to deal with these issues early on, stop pumping out lazy console ports and then think you can PR your way out of it.
