Remember back when community-made maps (and mods) ended up surpassing official maps in popularity, and it didn't split up the community because anyone could download them, for free? Blue's News remembers! *wanders off to go wax nostalgic about Lithium II and Loki's Minions CTF for Quake 2 and all the maps I made for Quake 1* Wonder if I can still find those and bots that play them...

Fast Forward a few years and you've got Descent 3, Jedi Outcast/Jedi Academy, UT99->2k4, Far Cry 1.....wow was 2004 really the last year where custom maps were the norm?

Where is all this money coming from?

People telling their friends about the game. The average donation is still at about $77 per person right now.

Every day hundreds are signing up... it has been a slow uptick of the # of people signing up every day. It is not just the USA but all over the world.

$23 million is what will give CIG $21 million [after PayPal/Kickstarter/Credit card companies take their cut] to make the game without needing any outside investors/publishers.

I remember doing the math a last week at 20 Million and it was right around $75 a person.

With the most popular package being the Digital Bounty Hunter package at $65 (access to alpha, beta, & final) if someone spends $10 extra on goodies for their hangar $75-80 would be really easy to hit.
