REVISITING THE IN-GAME HUD
"We’re working on establishing a clearer visual difference from BF4"

At least they are hearing all the comments about this just being a reskinned/modded version of BF4 lol

Hopefully it tanks.

News Comments > DICE on Bad Company 3: "Wait and See"
28. Re: DICE on Bad Company 3: Jun 24, 2014, 17:27 Kosh401

My squad would be the shit out of a new Bad Company, just like we did with BC2. We've also had a ton of fun with BF3 & 4 (now that it's been patched up so much).

About War Tapes audio setting from BC2: it's in both BF3 and 4 as well and everyone should give them a go - gotta love them raw audio recordings! Nothing like the sound of gunfire and ricochets everywhere while an attack chopper does a low pass overhead >:D

lol people are just going to see that line "DayZ is moving to a new engine" and assume that's exactly what they are doing.. because that's what it says (as apparently quoted by Rocket, which is his own screw up that will cost him in headaches I'm sure)

To quote DayZ Producer Hicks (from his Reddit account):

When DayZ started - we took the source from the existing RV Engine - Over the last many months, extensive clean up, new functionality, and so forth has been created for that engine - while at the same time, vast amounts of it were removed, or rewritten entirely. The changes Dean spoke of entail major leaps forward in that work, with those changes and the many more that will come through out development - we have begun to approach the point in which DayZ's engine is so no longer recognizable as RV, and because of that - and the massive work to come, it is now known by its own name, Enfusion.

TLDR: so much has changed in the engine that they've given it a new name

My buddy and I will definitely be picking this up. Since it looks like the Civ 5 engine again, we're really hoping it will play a lot better at launch than Civ 5 did (especially MP).

4. Re: Battlefield 4 Jun 3, 2014, 19:51 Kosh401

Better late than never, of course, but we've had some great games this evening already and we'll back at it after a short food break

But anyway, don't let me interrupt the Blues' hate train. Carry on ^^

Friend of mine insists CoH 2 pretty awesome and well balanced after the past few patches. Might give it a go again one of these days.

Wouldn't touch an RTS on console, though :S

DayZ is very clearly marked as Early Access. With all the info out there on it because of its popularity, it's very easy to know what content is in the game now and what is coming up in the short term and long term. The official dev blog alone has this information, which right there on its Steam page.

More than enough information to make a decision to buy it as early access or not.

We're looking forward to it, easily the most fun we're having in a game these days

Reports from the test server regarding netcode are showing big improvements in that area so that's nice too.

News Comments > Starbound Update Pace Explained
3. Re: Starbound Update Pace Explained Apr 17, 2014, 09:58 Kosh401

I didn't realize people were worried they were taking their money and running?? I thought Starbound had one of the best early access launches in terms of content and stability, including the updates. I guess maybe people just got used to the rapid updating shortly after launch of the early access. Seems ironic/funny.

News Comments > PC Battlefield 4 Naval Strike Delayed
13. Re: PC Battlefield 4 Naval Strike Delayed Mar 25, 2014, 15:35 Kosh401

Well at least they actually delayed it rather. Too bad about launch, but my friends and I have been having a great time since the sound loop crashing got fixed finally.

Looking forward to this DLC and their take on Titan Mode once they release it. It won't be as good as 2142 from the preview clips I've seen, but should still be a good amount of fun for a DLC pack.

News Comments > SimCity Offline Mode "Almost There"
39. Re: SimCity Offline Mode Mar 14, 2014, 17:11 Kosh401

Considering that the entire simulation is done on a single processing core, I don't think we'll see them increase the city sizes without some serious overhauling of the engine.

Pretty crazy they went that route; the game is terribly flawed in more ways than just the features (or lack there of in some cases).

I'd pick it up if there was no monthly fee. But I'm sure it will go free to play sooner rather than later, so I'll keep an eye out for it then.

The combat is a work in progress. People in the beta wanted more feedback in combat, plus the addition of collisions. Both of these are in the works and to some degree present on the public test server, but that's only for the full-time beta players, not the public weekend betas. In other words, don't judge the final product by what you see in this particular beta (it's a build behind). However they have stated that a newer build will be tested in the next beta, so that should have collisions and possibly the better feedback.

Just to add, from what I've a gathered from skimming Reddit, collision detection is only for NPC's and is/will not be part of PvP.

News Comments > SimCity Offline Mode Coming
41. Re: SimCity Offline Mode Coming Jan 13, 2014, 16:14 Kosh401

It still blows my mind that this game isn't multithreaded. 100% of the simulation/calculations are done on a single thread. It's crazy and hard to fathome that they felt this was a good design/development direction. At least they were consistent across the board in that regard, though.

I'll almost definitely pick it up. I've kept an eye on it via its Reddit page so have read most of the dev blog updates which I found interesting. Pretty impressive coming from a dev team of exactly 1!

I bet it would be full of concept art, etc., that was already made for the original games. Maybe they would photoshop some of it up a bit, but I'm sure all that kind of stuff was acquired as well.

News Comments > DayZ Character Wipes
7. Re: DayZ Character Wipes Dec 19, 2013, 19:35 Kosh401

Haha, yeah that sucks. My buddy and I have been running around and mostly are coming across extremely cautious but non-hostile players. We even had a trade with 2 other players, our extra can opener for 2 canteens, compass, and 2 or 3 cans of food I dont remember. Of course now other things can be used to open cans (at a cost to losing some of the food) but before that patch can openers were like gold

Anyway, we always go our own way after running into other players exactly for the situation you had! It will be interesting to see how things develop as they keep adding more items to the game.

Interesting, they are attempting to fix the death behind cover errors. Maybe there will be less 250+ ping people on every server trying to take advantage of the weird BF netcode.)

One of the devs was just posting on Reddit about that a few days ago. It's more of a packet loss issue rather than actual ping, and they are considering ways to show which servers you experience higher packet loss with. Has to do with pathing of the signal/info from the server to your modem, so some servers can result in significantly different experience despite both coming with good pings.

Anyway, that's just part of it of course but it's good to know they're working on it I guess.

6. Re: Battlefield 4 Patch Dec 9, 2013, 22:26 Kosh401

I just finished about 2 hours with my mates and only had 1 sound loop crash, which is about the same it's been since the first client patch (1 sound crash every 2ish hours). I crash more often on map changes, though none of those tonight. But who knows.

Fucking pissed it keeps happening and hasn't been fixed yet. But the damn game is just so good I'm still finding it worthwhile to keep going.. ironically enough, if it weren't for the crashes, I may not have stopped playing in reasonable time on more than a few weeknights lol :/

Starbound beta is extremely short on content and will see sweeping changes made fast and frequently, at least early on. It was live for two days before they decided to completely redo the weapon/enemy/planet scaling (with good reason).

Well, if they call it a beta, make changes like a beta, and update it like a beta, then I guess it's a beta!
