Calling people names is what you did in the first post over something you have no actual experience with. No one elses fault that you're dishonest and tried to troll people over something you never even touched.

Just desserts trollboy.

I said the reviewer was right and kids like bling and bullshit to much these days - where's the "calling names" eh Red? Wheres the lie? I know you won't answer because once again, you are on the wrong side of common sense.

And even better for a moron stance (you win the gold star for this one, Red) -- you think people need to be even more fucking stupid and purchase something sight unseen -- that can be easily judged with the many twitch/reviews/letsplays/friends etc. If people were as fucking clueless as you, then yes perhaps everyone needs to run out and buy whatever is thrown at them without making an informed decision.

So did you buy the Wii U and the games you always trash talk about? By your stance then you are everything you proclaim others to be. But in the reality we all know, you are just an infantile troll.

All I see you "calling" is names like a two year old as usual. Calling me a liar, like somehow I was the one who wrote the article that hurt your feelings.

I'm not the one trash talking a game I've never played, that would be some kind of trolling.

Apparently you can't distinguish between a review and a post that agrees with the review...

Grow up Red, you aren't annoying me, just peppering threads with your childishness.

Finally the first DA:I review that was spot on. Too many kiddies wow'd by glam and bling who follow the hype trail and are too afraid to admit they paid too much for a sub-par experience.

The History Of Frame Rate.

I know is 60fps porn kicks total ass. Far > than 1080p, but bombastic when it's both!

Exactly what I've been saying. xbone and ps4 are just subpar PC's you play in the living room, but people bought into the spec hype. Nintendo is where the and fun and innovation come in.

Not all nintendo games are winners, and many of us didn't grow up on mario so don't care much about mario/zelda/xwhatever -- but the ones that hit the mark - hit it perfectly.

There's never PC ads because we already make devs rich if its a solid game, advertising not needed.

Man you are clueless. Hexen came out a year before quake, so we've had Doom 1 + Doom 2 + hexen +heretic + dark forces + rise of the triad + Duke 3D + descent 2. Duke was released in January, Descent 2 was released in March and quake was released in June. Get a fucking clue man. Let's just say you got a hard on for quake 1 that I don't share. I was getting awful tired of every other game starting to be a first person shooter at that point. Descent 2 + kali/kahn was a breath of fresh air. Doom ushered in an FPS avalanche, we got a constant stream of them. We got Quake 2 year later and Unreal/Shogo in 1998 barely a year and bit later. Let us not forget Warcraft 2 was released before quake.

It was practically a constant stream of fps yearly or every year and a quarter. There's tonnes I'm not naming.

Always someone who has to start being an asshole during a conversation because he's been proven to be dead fucking wrong.

Yes, you are/were/alwayswillbe wrong. Your "avalanche" is rehashes of ID games that came before Quake, you think everyone here is fucking stupid or something? Maybe people in other forums were wearing diapers in the 90s, but most here at least had hair on their balls then. And you said you hated Quake 1, which is undeniably the grandaddy of online FPS and was the most immersive single player experience at the time bar none - you are the one who is clueless, proven by your very own words.

Apple has always made money, always will - means nothing. There will always be people who think they are getting something better with Jordache jeans than Levis -- not to mention every kid calls any tablet an ipad and kids are the ones running the tablet show these days (sorry college dudes and dudettes, you can't compete).

Linux is the next king in popularity - billions of people use Android OS every day -- most don't even realize it. Backdoor for the win!

And you know what? There are no more games like this. So many secret areas, possibilities to go a different route than the obvious one, like jumping into the water and going around. No respawning monsters, only occasionally spawning/teleporting in, but when you explore, you can see them walking around the map.

By the time quake came out we were getting overloaded with great games from many genres and attention was splitting between games, like warcraft 2, descent 2, and many others back then. There was an avalanche of first person shoooter games.

There certainly was not an avalanche of first person shooter games, that's false -- there were precious few, and 3d was in its infancy. Now we could google which games were first person back in the 90's, but the reality is few heard of them then or now. And more importantly the vast majority of people had neither the internet or a computer. And those who did, fewer still knew how to setup games on them.

Quake was heads above anything prior in both tech and gameplay due to the design both aesthetically, functionally, and technically, was built with 3d during the 3d tech explosion, and allowed internet play directly - not even considering the many multiplayer offshoots mentioned which propelled it's popularity far beyond anything else considered competition -- which there was none until UT.

You can experience everything Evolve has to offer offline, playing single player.

Offline Bot matches is nothing to get excited about, but nice spin! Good for practice if the online game warrants it, but then a snooze fest after the initial learning period.

I was hopeful for the game after playing the several closed sessions -- but it's not for me after seeing all the silly crap going on after "release".
Meh, I play most of my arena shooters either offline or in coop with one or two other persons I know. Online with strangers just means I'll play very little of it, and thus not worth my money.

Complete opposite for me, I get little satisfaction playing against bots, and almost never coop. But puttin the beatdown to the masses while occasionally getting the beatdown on me - that's good for the heart!

Depends on when and what you gamed on. I had a preference for doom 2 multiplayer LAN and Kahn/Kali Warcraft 2 and Descent 1/2. I didn't start heavily playing multiplayer quake until quake 2 since I had played deathmatch a lot with Doom 2 and Duke nukem 3D over LAN.

I could never get into quake single player, it just ate balls compared to dooms. Serious Sam 1st and 2nd encounter are really Dooms successor. While every iD software game from quake on didn't really inherit the over the top action game design philosophy from doom.

I'd take serious sam style SP design over doom 3 anyday.

Ahh the days of IPX... Ya I loved the descent series as well, another game king that has never been usurped by a modern version.

Ya JD I've not seen anything about Overwatch since it's announcement, just waiting to see what becomes of it, hopefully it's good.

If you want to make a good old-school shooter, you need to have interesting weapons and enemies. STRAFE doesn't seem to have either.

I'll reserve judgement until I play it. Halo 1 had bog standard fps weapons but ended up being a fun romp until the library.

How a game feels when you play it is the most important.

Halo wasn't old-school in any way. Super slow movement, regenerating health/shields, linear levels, two-weapon limits... about as far from old-school as you can get.

I know that, the point being was halo was a step down from PC fps games but it ended up still being fun to play. A game should be rated on whether it is ultimately fun or not.

Nothing was more fun or cutting edge than Quake at the time, and its kinda surprising that QL is still the most solid form of competitive FPS's out there damn near 20 years later. I'd still play it hadcore, but I burnt out having spent so many years clanning and playing every iteration of quake -- QWTF, Lithium, RA, Insta, TWCTF, throughout the Q1,Q2,Q3.

I do load up QL occasionally, but my bread and butter these days is TF2 for competitive FPS. Ready for something new, been too long. I don't think strafe is it, but am glad they're attempting to make something like it.

My take?

If a game took over $20,000,000, has been around for 9 months, and I never heard of it till now (and likely most of you), then either they were completely inept at getting the word out, or there's some untruths going on...

Because Elon Musk is on the case, Bill!

Oh, he actually says that himself. I did like this part, though:

First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage it well. A few decades after that though, the intelligence is strong enough to be a concern. I agree with Elon Musk and some others on this and don't understand why some people are not concerned.

Well, because I'm more concerned with making sure I have enough money to pay all my bills and keep food on my table. And whether the place I work for is going to survive the current oil prices.

The idea whether AI is going to kill me three decades from now is not really high on my list of immediate things to worry about. I guess when you're a billionaire that is the only left to freak out about.

I was coming in to say essentially the same thing, spot on Creston.

I'd agree, but I'd settle for a *wee bit* less than DF detail level, that game still scares the shit outta me!

I can afford pretty much whatever I want, but haven't plunked down > $40 for a game sight unseen in the past decade.

And even after I've seen it, almost no AAA gets full price from me. Maybe GTA V after the first few reviews come in and go through my *bullshit/shill/nub filter*, but no guarantee.
