Greatest case ever

I haven't had any noise problems for the last 10 years or so with a good case, but this case has be far been my favorite across the board.

They got the right people with the right experience and the right words (D&D always makes me happy) to make me interested.

5. Re: Obsidian's Pathfinder License Aug 13, 2014, 13:53 Axis

This is pretty great news, Obsidian will likely do something solid with it since their Pillars of Eternity is looking to be the next gen RPG standards and should stick with the Baldurs Gate formula we all know and love.

Now if Larian can secure the old AD&D license for their next game, I'll be overcome with joy.

I'm not sure what to make of the Alpha consoles. A quick look at the specs tells me they have low end parts (drive, ram) mixed with mid range processor and an unknown (likely mid-low range) GPU with only wireless connectivity (assuming here you can add an Ethernet adapter via a port, or it would be an instant no-buy in my book).

And the marketing is weird - they seem to be trying to pull in console gamers to a pseudo PC experience, even tho it really IS a low-mid range PC with Steam, a controller, and custom alternate UI.

PC gamers already can move and setup in the living room with big TV's, receivers, surround sound, and all that jazz if we were so inclined. I personally don't like to PC game in the living room (for a whole host of reasons), so SteamOS will have it's work cut out - I see it as more of an "additional" PC to just doink around on.

Who knows at this point...

But hey, I'm all for competition no matter where it comes from, so I'll be watching how these coming months play out.

PC gamers simply don't give a shit, seriously we can easily live without any games that go 'exclusive' anywhere else.

How did you read that as dismissal?

This statement sounded very dismissive to me: "Dungeon master, Eye of the Beholder, Bards Tale, etc but they were "first person" dungeon crawlers and the SSI games were top down tactical."

To me, it came across that you were dismissing the very stellar Eye of the Beholder series by claiming that the only SSI games were top down tactical.

If you didn't mean it that way, then I apologize.

Ahh I see how you could have read it that way, no worries mate text sucks for conversations.

Well with Windows 8 and average users only being able to run MS proprietary apps, what's not to love?!

I never knew surface had an "acceptable" loss quarter - always been garbage.

Game is rife filled with hackers. Devs claim to "investigate" but can do nothing about it - they really have no way to "know" so just let everything slide. They make up for it by banning people who name call... but honestly it's like a bunch of babies making and running the entire operation.

There's been an exception here and there, but you don't want to play right now, believe me. Till they add at least basic protection to keep the majority of bargain basement scripts out, it's just an annoying game.

Eye of the Beholder I, II and III were SSI games. EoB I and II were published by SSI while EoB III was directly developed by SSI.

I don't think it's fair to dismiss them out of hand when they were a very strong part of SSI's total portfolio.

How did you read that as dismissal? I said I *loved them all* but they were different styles - the fist person vs the tactical. The article was specific about their gold box roots and that's the ones I hope they re-do since only KOTC was the only recent throwback.

As for DnD, the best version was the old ADnD which is still one of the most popular among PnP. I just prefer any DnD system overall, but ya pathfinder would work too even though it's not my personal 'roots'.

I, too, fondly remember Pool of Radiance (or Poolrad which is what the default directory was called in DOS). However, for me, none of the gold box games hold a candle to the RPG that finally equalled the greatness of Dungeon Master on my old Atari ST. That game was Eye of the Beholder

I'd absolutely love to see a new Eye of the Beholder game. Legends of Grimrock is a great modern day game, and has a lot of the same vibe, but it isn't a Forgotten Realms game.

I loved them all, but they are not the same type of games. Dungeon master, Eye of the Beholder, Bards Tale, etc but they were "first person" dungeon crawlers and the SSI games were top down tactical.

For me it was more about the DnD ip being the core of all those SSI games. I lived and breathed DnD and couldn't get enough of it. And while I'm totally pumped the original SSI veterans are in charge, I won't be near as excited if they don't use DnD (or at a minimum D20) as the core again.

News Comments > July Steam Hardware & Software Survey
17. Re: July Steam Hardware & Software Survey Aug 6, 2014, 19:22 Axis

Average and below pc users just buy a dell or hp or whatever, there's no love for windows 8, it's just harder to justify 7 for them. In fact, I'm surprised that 26% or so isn't higher, people are REALLY trying to avoid 8.

They'll pay more for a windows 7 machine after digging deep to find one to begin with, and most people aren't motivated enough to monkeywrench win 7 on an 8 machine.

So no, there's no "wow windows 8 is so great it's my preferred gaming machine!", except those who just gave in and decided to embrace it. It's more popular because MS and resellers are making it attractive monetarily to the average non-tech user vs the time and money or brains to get 7 running.

I don't run windows 8 on any of my machines, and I never will.

This game felt so solid and felt like it had so few bugs to be worked out in Alpha. And most importantly it was FUN. Why till February? I was so excited to be playing this with friends next month

What? It ran like shit on top of the line hardware. Half of the time other players were invisible. Oh, and the "gameplay" is boring as hell. Lets run in circles all over the map for half an hour! Yeah!

Maybe you have shitty "top of the line" hardware or poor PC maintenance skills -- it ran flawlessly on my 2 systems with different hardware on both.

I have origin (and a host of other "clients" with various logins for my family) on a non-gaming PC. I just load it up to grab the free games when applicable.

However, I admit I've been playing the hell out of plants vs zombies garden warfare on my beast machine. Game is great fun for now.

One night in 1999 I played EQ for 24 hours.

After the all-niter, I went to the zoo and opened the wolf cages while sporting a slab of ribeye steak tied to my waist. Running directly through screaming crowds of people, I shouted "TRAIN"!

Were you camping in Lguk for a Flowing Black Silk Sash? I once played EQ for 24 hours straight too, camping for one of those. After so many hours, you refuse to give up, because the RNG has got to come up for you soon.

I did SO many all-niters with EQ. Jboots, cleric shield & scepter, mana stone, cloak of flames, learning raids the first time, list goes on. Spoiled me, no mmo has come even remotely close to the difficulty or demand for people to use their heads (or cooperate) while playing... and yet I'd never want to do it again...

Sacred 3 is a moneygrab ripoff from Deep Silver and a consolized piece of shit that has no resemblance to the first two.

If it was more aptly named "Sacred Citadel 2" and cost no more than $10, then perhaps it might be a 6/10 for some.

Fixed that review and any future review of Sacred 3.
