Whenever I see someone repeat the newest gaming meme fad comment "Production Values", I ignore their opinion. Just ask Notch.
It's the single most glaring sign that the poster has no idea WTF real gamers care about - gameplay. |

I think the biggest population of people playing D3 is because they missed the boat with D2. Sure they'll say how they're vets and shit, but its pretty much bullshit - just newbs who fell off the wow train.
Most hardcore D2 players sure as shit aint playing D3, and you know I know where they are... ::)) |

I guess Nintendo might find themselves with a lot of console sales this Christmas, if the rumors about MS and Sony prove to be true. I'd definitely advertise the shit out of it if I was them.
Creston No, only for accounts. They already confirmed the games will be account-tied ONLY, the way it's setup now is temporary. |

Verno wrote on Feb 4, 2013, 11:13: Hardcore gamers drive the market, casual users are fickle and often just along for the ride. The Wii is probably the greatest example of that. Remember when the Wii came out and everyone was wondering why Nintendo was selling it at a profit while Sony and Microsoft were selling their consoles at a loss? At the end of the day the Wii sold more consoles than either of the others and Nintendo made money on every one and made money on whatever games were sold for those consoles. Call it what you want but that seems like a net win for Nintendo. Plus they have somehow convinced their idiot fanboys that digital purchases should be tied the the console they were purchased on thereby making them buy the same games over and over again. And dumb as it may sound, it does happen. The Wii sells because it's the best 'casual' console for all ages.
Not to mention it offers hardcore PC gamers like myself a break from all the epeen teens in the xbox community.
And I don't know anyone who bought the same console game twice BUT I do know a bunch of idiots who buy the same game on different platforms... |

On the Open Source discussion, I've ran open office, thunderbird, and firefox with no scripts for years now - there's simply no better alternatives paid for or not.
Course I run virtually all open source apps anyway at home and on my clients regardless of OS -- 7zip, gimp, filezilla, joomla, vlc, sage, the list goes on. |

There's only 3 games I "paid for" before release. Minecraft, PoE, and Miner Wars.
Two outta 3 aint bad, so passing on this one will keep my ratio in the positive...
Ya the new 'founders' crap is getting out of hand, a way for companies to release crap and still get rewarded is never good... |

Isn't that like saying "Win ME sucks for security" and calling it news in 2013?... Except that no one uses Win ME anymore, but UPnP devices are ubiquitous.
Rapid 7 has a tool you can download and scan your network for vulnerabilities. I know what you mean JD, but the same kind of people who would 'still use' Win Me or Explorer 6 or whatever are the ones who would not disable UPNP in their OS or router - the largest majority of PC users falls in this category, even if they have updated systems.
Most have no idea what UPNP is, how to disable it or otherwise, even if they did read Ars. Techs knew this for ages (well the good ones did anyway) |

I'm getting bad vibes from this. And I would, most definitely, be classified as a 'DnD' Fanboy. It's the only IP I'm fanboyish about, and I have no problem admitting it - tabletop roleplaying took up a good portion of my teen years in the 80s when DnD and TSR was king.
... but something is just not right about the Neverwinter vibe. Maybe it's because "perfect world" is behind it... maybe because there's a huge lack in specifics to how it relates to the PnP experience (class building etc).
I don't know, but I'm not feeling anything positive about it yet. |

Anyway... The negativity exhibited around here towards this game so far is just proof that Blue's regulars will crap all over ANYTHING no matter how good it is. Oh, please. It's not nearly as bad as the folks that say "you guys are just haters here" when people don't agree with them...
The BN regulars who crap all over good games are most often the same ones hating on anyone who disagrees. I know this from experience by the local 'Brown Newsers' here...

Was there a post on their Mem Leak you could link, Red? There'll be issues but they really nailed down the leaks many months ago, but I could see how something could get introduced with the new client.
As for the boss fights, there's only a few (like oak, kraiten, alira) where you have to plan accordingly.
For big bosses like Vaal, you want to throw up a portal. Once yo go through and back you'll have full flasks again. I'll note though, a well rounded build won't need to portal.
Most of us have 'goto' mods on flasks and items for certain bosses, but that doesn't help much if you don't have a solid defense via the passives, and know the boss's a bit so you can use twitch skill.
I'm speaking totally from Hardcore where you don't wanna die.
Just try what I said about the resize. Go to windowed mode, drag the bottom of the client up to resize it into a rectangle. You'll see what I mean immediately. Very few people know about this btw |

For those who complain about the 'zoom' change your monitor or aspect ratio. There's been plenty of talk about this in the beta. Depending on how you scale your size, you can gain a great advantage.
Do yourself a test, compliments of Axis. Put it in windowed mode and resize it so it's like a long rectangle. there ya go - more screen size and viewing angle than any game you've ever played.
As for the passive tree, it's both 'complex' and 'simple'. However, until you've built several characters to high level (60+), you cannot ascertain how to make complex builds with regards to gems and items and what the game throws at you- that's a fact.
It's designed that way so new players can just stuff nodes around the 'class' and they'll do ok in the default league no matter what they choose, but offer complex options once you know the system.
Oh and the crazy memory use guy - you got system problems simple as that. None of my systems ever use more than 1.5g on the client. |

Cram wrote on Jan 24, 2013, 21:30: A few hours into open beta, months since I've played it last. I still dislike the Isometic zoom angle and FFX sphere grid. At maximum zoom-out, I still want a substantially greater Line of Sight. D3 got that part right, if it got anything right. The sphere grid is still a mess that gives no one a clue how to build...a build.
Made a post a number of months back about my gripes with the game after 30 or so hours with the game in closed beta. Naturally, as is of course tradition here, Axis said I had no idea what I was talking about. I look forward to going through this again and posting updated thoughts on its current build. Which of course if it anything but 100% praise, as is tradition, Axis will tell me I have no idea what I'm talking about. Unlike many here at BN, I don't try to demonize people who don't agree with me. But since you didn't quote our conversation, I'll just have to believe you and go with your assumption you don't know what you're talking about
