Deus Ex is still in my top 5 games of all time and has not been matched in terms of story, gameplay and sheer ambience...Hard to believe a group that put something that brilliant together couldnt find the formula to continue...
I hope they all find work...

Not liking this trend... |

All the posts I see here profiling Valve as greedy are starting to really hit home with me...I used to think that Valve was one of the good guys. But, my experience with Steam (my first with HL2) and this litigation leads me to believe Valve is on a quiet crusade to essentially control and dictate when and how we can experience their "product". Okay, granted this product is highly susceptible to copyright infringement, but trying to get cybercafes to buck up for providing LICENSED copies of their products to play is a bit much.
This reminds me of a story I heard from someone who told me that, I think it was HBO, was essentially going around to bars essentially trying to extort them by telling them they could not broadcast the Sopranos or Sex and the City without paying additional revenues...
The question here is...WHEN DOES THIS END? Do we get to the point where every time a business establishment that wants to provide a certain amenity or service to its customer as part of its value differentiator has to pay some sort of "usage fee" or "subscription fee" if they want to make it available to more than one "household"?
Will bars and niteclubs have to fork over more money just to have the radio playing or the TV on?????? Will we have to pay per flush? Shoot the power company could get in on the action too! THey could charge all businesses MORE because they are providing heat and light to more than just one "household"! Yea, lets all get our greedy little fucking fingers in everyone elses pockets!!!!
Valve, you make great games....
Your business philosophy and public relations strategy leave a HELLUVA lot to be desired.
Considering the bullshit I had to go through to get HL2 retail up and running, I am leaning towards it being the LAST Valve product I buy...
There will be PLENTY of other games out there that dont sniff my computer before they decide to let me install and run their little software application.

It boggles my mind how anyone at 3DRealms could want to release any other "official" announcement other than "THE GAME IS F*CKING DONE ALREADY!!!!"
The only thing I can think of is that it satisfies someones contractual obligations??? I guess we'll know someday...or WILL WE????
And lastly, boy did I get a sick and cheap thrill at seeing a new Duke news thread...I've always maintained these threads have some of the best humor I read anywhere. I say keep up the "healthy" debate.
By the way did I read something about HL2 going gold today?

Does this actually seem...EARLY? |

Does anyone else here feel like this is actually going gold way earlier than it was supposed to? Nowadays, when a game actually ships in the month it was targeted for most people start speculating that it was "rushed out the door". I hope this isnt the case with this one. It sounds great. Lets see a demo.

Could it be you guys are actually tired of making fun of Gabe's weight, Valve's network, September 30th and Steam?????
What will you poor people do once the game is actually OUT?

Tech help... |

I just got it today and fired it up on my relatively new Visiontek X800 XT Platinum...Far Cry looks GREAT but it really looks like, for some bizarre reason, my textures in D3 are stuck on low. Ive tried max quality and everything else seems to be working... the screen res, the AA etc but the textures still look low res when I get right up to them (by that I mean serious stair stepping, softness, etc). Can anyone point me in the direction of a troubleshooting/tweak guide for this card and the game???
Thanks, Sling

Did anyone in their right mind think this thing was coming out in October? Its an unwritten rule that any game announced to the public in the same year its supposed to ship will 100% FOR SURE be delayed.

Ive got a 2.4 P4 with 1 GB RAM and a brand spankin new Visiontek X800 XT PLatinum. It runs like butter on mine so far except for one small glitch where some shadowing and the occasional vehicle are rendered as solid yellow. But, this was there prior to the patch so..Now if I could just find that save game patch..

The WWII genre is the most tired, unoriginal, oversaturated game category out there...
I dont care how good this game might be (and I think it will probably be mediocre at best) the gaming community is ready for something ORIGINAL!!!!!!
Of course I blame the publishers because they will only bankroll something if its a "proven" success it seems...
Wouldnt we all like to see half as MANY games released every year that are twice as GOOD??
