6. Re: Aesop Games Interview: Being Denied Media Coverage For A Sociopolitical Stance - One Angry Gamer Mar 28, 2015, 20:43 NamecaF

This is what pisses me off about the "media/news". It's gone from reporting the news and facts, to pushing a one-sided narrative. It's happening more and more in all areas of the news, but with gaming websites it's a whole other level.

Stop censoring and twisting facts/quotes to suit your own bloody beliefs and position. Just present the facts and arguments from both sides in an unbiased way and let the readership make up it's own mind.

It's surprising that I haven't really heard of gamers being gunned down in their homes by swatting. We've been very fortunate. There have been many incidents before where SWAT raids go horribly wrong and some person at the wrong address or some kid gets fuckin killed or maimed.

Only a matter of time before one of these things go badly and some streamer gets his head blown off by some piggly wiggly live on stream.

Something really needs to be done.

The blanket police bashing here is getting old.

I think it's more the case of under-training and using "part-time" SWAT teams that are the problem.

And thinking of SWAT teams as just a "civilian army" who always go in heavy-handed and shoot first, ask questions later is blatantly ignorant.

You can't send regular police to a hostage situation (which is what most of these "swatting" incidents are) and most full-time SWAT teams are extremely professional. For them, the best outcome is one where no shots are fired and everyone (including the suspect/s) comes out unharmed.

GrenadesNHam wrote on Mar 21, 2015, 22:30:
True military members cringe at their lack of professionalism.

What a stupid statement. I would say some law enforcement SWAT guys are more professional than some military guys. Most SWAT members especially are a lot more disciplined and less showboaty.

A return to Rainbow Six 3? Tactical planning phase?

This game looks pretty different from RS3. IIRC this is multiplayer only, and very small restrictive but totally destructible environments. No running around in oil refineries or airports.

Yeah, from gameplay videos looks more like Counter Strike with barricade tools and destructibility and less like the old-school Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear/Raven Shield type of tactical shooter. Even Vegas was more truthful to the history than this, which is really a sad statement.

Very disappointing. Would love a new *proper* tactical shooter ala SWAT / Rainbow 6

Australia===Democracy gone wrong,very wrong.

Mostly because the average Australian is a "live and let live" type. Our "democracy" has been run mostly by vocal minorities and last minute vote grabs via electoral bribe (or, as is more common recently, revenge swings against odious policy/parties).

We've just had two state elections where a one term government has been tossed on their ass. Federally, it looks like the PM will also be a one termer (and Rudd/Gillard/Rudd only managed to scrape in for a second term as a minority government). The electorate has woken up to the fact that we can toss out shit politicians. Perhaps a few beatings at the polls will see a return to centrist sensible policy rather than the fucking stupidity we've had to deal with for so long.

Or not. They are politicians after all.

On topic, the chances are that this will probably allow a minor relaxation of stupidity like an "Aus" version of Saints Row 4 (the bits where you could sodomise ppl with the dildo bat, while censored, were a bridge too far for our classification board apparently).

The US & Canadia ESRB is a member, so I'd imagine this is probably a bit more permissive than the Aus standard.

^^^ Exactly this ^^^

Rockstar gets the big ol' fuck you on numerous other grounds including, but not limited to:

  • The messed up bollocks that was GTA 4 on PC

  • 7 years ago. you sure know how to hold a grudge. I mean it didn't perform great, but it was far superior than the console version, remember buying it day one. Not to mention it looks better than GTA V after the IcEnhancer and realism mods. so what is your problem again?

Historical evidence that the PC port of GTA 5 may well not be a proper or good quality port. Ignoring your mods comment as that should have no bearing on what we're talking about what-so-ever.

  • Shitty, arrogant treatment of their PC fans

  • By building and releasing a PC version of that game everyone wants to play on PC? those pricks!

No actually. By their lack of communication or simply ability to confirm IF the game would ever see a PC release at all. Their still to date lack of a port of Red Dead Redemption on PC, etc.

  • Charging $80+ for a game that came out more than a year ago

  • I assume that it's $80 for all games where you live, so there's no shock here. Did you know that they're still charging full price for Arma3? that released 2 YEARS AGO!!! those BASTARDS!

Actually most games here can be had for $60-$79, but the big ticket cash-cow/Michael Bay games like Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, etc are usually the only ones to get the massive price points on top of the "bleed 'em 'cause we can" Australia Tax we unfortunately get slapped with from publishers. Even for digital items (which makes absolutely no sense in a country like Australia).

  • Their bullshit abuse of power and altering games post-release (removing tracks from GTA San Andreas even for those that bought it before said changes took effect)

  • abuse of power? slightly altering something that they created? abuse of power!?! do you even hear yourself? not to mention that one's 11 years old, wow you REALLY keep a grudge. Shit, i've forgiven PEOPLE who did something mildly irritating 11 minutes ago, but you can hang onto this so close to your heart 11 years later? hats off, the hate is strong with this one.

Abuse of power in the sense that because they have the ability to be complete dicks and modify/remove content from their games retroactively without any notice to or input from the user and with no ability to opt out. Basically the completely loss of consumer rights and lack of respect to their paying customers. Licensing for music has probably run out on other games as well, but they havent been retroactively modified have they?

You can call it a grudge, but its really just a mutual disrespect and disgust with their attitude and practices.

  • Their blatant pushing (and integration) of their stupid Social Club bollocks

  • Yeah, you missed the whole reason Steam was invented in the first place, to tell 3rd party publishers to go fuck themselves. The people who MAKE the game, deserve to PUBLISH the game themselves. Welcome to 2004.

Perhaps I'm alone here, but I'm sick of every developer, publisher and company forcing us to install and use their own third party software and DRM just so I can play a game. Launch Steam, click play game (+DRM check), which launches Social Club (+which does its own DRM checks), which then finally launches the game (which will apparently do intermittent online DRM checks as well). We already have Steam, Origin, Uplay, now Social Club... Where does is stop? Do we really need all this unnecessary fragmentation and useless software which causes only more annoyance for the user?

  • Their bold face lying, flippant attitude and lack of communication

  • Are you talking about an ex girlfriend? they're a videogame company, you sound ridiculous. you see that right...? because you sound like you've been hurt so deeply, that you can never love again. just sayin. might wanna keep that shit to yourself.

Haha. I sound ridiculous? Really ^^^^?

Lying: "The game's not delayed"... 2 weeks later; "The game's delayed".

Flippant attitude: Their history and actions so far.

Lack of communication: Self evident. No word on a PC release for ages. Not even a hint. Still have never addressed why Red Dead Redemption never got a PC release or if it ever will (I doubt it after all this time).

  • Treating genuine buyers like pirates

  • Don't even know where you're going with this. let me guess, releasing their game, on their e-store service, is treating you like a pirate? That's like "having to deal with a teller at the Walmart is a hassle, why don't they just trust me to pay for it! they treat me like a thief! I hate it how there's a small process involved with buying things, it's so anti-consumer! This direct download right to my computer is so damned inconvenient!"

Overzealous DRM? Constantly phoning home? Entitlement checks? Social Club integration? See more below...

  • Shitty, shitty DRM policy

  • care to go into more detail? I logged into social club i think once when i first installed GTA 4 on PC, and that was it. oh right, i forgot that after that the world exploded, the sky fell, and dogs and cats were seen playing together. what the fuck is your doomsday scenario about having to log into a thing?

    LOL. Doomsday scenario?

Other requirements: Installation and online play requires log-in to Rockstar Games Social Club (13+) network; internet connection required for activation, online play, and periodic entitlement verification; software installations required including Rockstar Games Social Club platform, DirectX, Chromium, and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 sp1 Redistributable Package, and authentication software that recognizes certain hardware attributes for entitlement, digital rights management, system, and other support purposes. Single use serial code registration via internet required; registration is limited to one Rockstar Games Social Club Account (13+) per serial code; only one log-in allowed per Social Club account at any time; serial code(s) are non-transferable once used; Social Club accounts are non-transferrable.
If you're trying to scare people with legalese, posting a paragraph that seems utterly boilerplate in any EULA isn't very frightening. quote something that says R* heretofore owns your first born child, and i'll say "well done".

You should probably actually read EULAs more often, because having to log into their thing, and only getting one copy of the thing you just bought isn't going to lose anyone any sleep. to install a free flashlight app on my phone requires access to my phonelist contacts, my google contacts, my browsing history, my location, and my call history. and that's not even a bad one.

Boilerplate EULA? Uh, no. That says to me it's going to constantly phone home to make sure you are a good little boy/girl and not one of them rotten pirates which we are pretty sure you ALL are.

I use EULAlyzer. I'm well aware of EULA practices (which should be fundamentally redone in my opinion as most people dont read them and are agreeing to much more than they are aware of).

Also why I dont install apps on my phone and always make sure I am happy with what it needs and wants BEFORE installing it on my tablet. If it wants access to anything I dont agree with, I wont install it or buy it.

TL;DR I wont be buying this at all unless Rockstar fundamentally changes (which they never will). I was considering buying it eventually one day if it ever goes on sale for under $10 but out of principle, I've now decided I wont even then.

I *may* one day do the naughty and download a torrent of it just to see what the first person thing looks like but that is only if they dont release a demo (which many companies no longer seem to do). I dont normally "pirate" games (you should see my steam catalog) but in cases like this? I believe its a valid alternative. Same when a game is refused classification/sale, or is region locked or content restricted or abhorently overpriced (regional pricing and blatant ripping off of consumers) or even where the pirated version is actually a better experience than the legit version because of broken DRM, etc. You dont have to agree, but dont think I'm some kind of arsehole who never pays for games.

Truth is, I just fucking loath arrogance (which Rockstar seems to have in abundance). Call it a pet peeve.

In a perfect world, I honestly would love to completely boycott them over their practices, but the truth is they do make some really good fucking games, and one person taking a stand and refusing to buy their games? In the real world, that isnt really going to have much of an effect on a massive company unless millions of people do the same thing.

At least I can refuse to give them my money and vote with my wallet. There are plenty of other games and other developers that in fact do make good PC ports, do put the effort in and do communicate with their fans and the PC community. They deserve my money and they will get it.

    Good day.

I never said the game wasnt any good. I already own it on PS3 and just wish they didnt hate and disrespect their PC player-base.

If they'd humble up and apologise and fix their mistakes, I'd seriously reconsider buying it. But as it currently stands, no way.
