Tor usage more than doubles in August.

Related to NSA revelations? Nope, just coincidence.

Only terrorists want internet privacy so it must be the lead up to another attack. They'd have nothing to fear if they had nothing to hide after all.

Baaaaaaaaaahh.

I had the analog drift issue with my wired PC 360 pad. Made it impossible to play any older game without 360 controller support built in, apparently with those they take drift into account and give it a bigger deadzone. Tried running some programs to do the same for other games but no luck. Bought a wireless one and the LB button works intermittently. Pain the in the ass playing SRIV when your run button randomly turns off. Not buying a 3rd one. MS, fix your shit.

Nintendo has announced a $50 price cut to the "deluxe" WiiU effective Sept 20. I think everyone has dibs on "called it!" for that one.

There will also be a Wind Waker edition with a free digital download of the game plus a Zelda themed gamepad. Both will be the Deluxe versions of the console. Basic model appears to be dead.

Getting better. Not there yet, but getting better. A widescreen upgraded Wind Waker is tempting. But I also have Dolphin and a disc of the original game....

Credit where its due, Square seems to be finally turning things around. You don't find many devs who admit a game sucked and develop it a second time to make it right. Maybe I'll take a look at it later on once the major issues are worked out.

I had a Q9400 and it ran almost every game smoothly except Guild Wars 2. Mobo started to bite it so I upgraded to an Ivy 3550k system, kept the GPU, and it nearly doubled my FPS in that game. So there definitely has been a good jump in performance since the Core2/Quad days, it just hasn't been needed for the most part.

It really is a great game. It lets you feel like a true superhero: fast, powerful, mobile yet still vulnerable. Just don't call him a psychopath, he's a puckish rogue.

People will always find a reason other than blaming parents. Banning things is easy, teaching people to not be complete fuckups at parenting is much harder. Just like with an individual it is much easier for society to just be a slacker instead of fixing faults. Toy guns, movies, cartoons, music, dryer lint, the Moon being in alignment with Jupiter, etc. Pick a decade and they all had their turn at being the bad guy.

Damn you dryer lint!

In my limited personal experience I've found casuals seem to enjoy it and techies hate it.

I've also found casuals can't find everything they look for and call the techie for help. The casuals don't seem to mind that everything's been moved around because hey, pretty colors. We'll just call Steve!

The techies meanwhile hate MS for hiding all the cheese and increasing their friends and family tech support calls.

I'm on the techie side.

Again, my experience does not a statistic make.

Yep. From what I've read, the new Start button just takes you back to tabletville.

Penny Arcade sums up my feelings on that sufficiently.

It didn't have to be this way. They could have included a classic interface option like previous versions had. They could have had a far, far better tutorial for the new UI. They could have recognized that pissing off a large chunk of your userbase in order to try and trojan horse people into using your pads and phones is not a good idea. Too late.

I think his failure can be summed up quite simply. When he took over Microsoft it was the king of the tech world. Under his watch other companies came in and took it from them damn near uncontested. Its like the race is over and they're stuck at the starting line because they didn't hear the gun go off. Financially they're still quite healthy but mostly due to legacy divisions that existed before Ballmer took over. As the top of the food chain ultimately the buck has to stop with him. Arrogant, terrible marketing, slow to respond and utterly unable to predict the changes in the market.

"Microsoft shares shot up eight per cent in morning trading following the news."

You know you're bad when just announcing retirement improves the value of your company. If he announced he would exile himself to a remote island they might just crack 10%. Just food for thought Mr Ballmer.
