Are ad blockers legal? Is that a serious question? Might as well wonder if sun guards in vehicles are legal since they can prevent you from seeing billboards.

Sites that don't use a million privacy violating trackers and respect your time I'll leave the blocker off (like Blues). Sites that don't respect you get blocked. Sites that break when I block them don't get visited. That simple.

That's got to be a new record for time between patches, or at least close to it. Good on them. Never did get around to trying it with the content patch, might be time.

It was most definitely registering a 9.5 on the sarcastometer. For reference I am currently using a provincial crown company as my cell provider and a co-op ISP for internet. Both offer superior service, coverage and pricing compared to the private competition. This is a province which historically has had very low population densities so public sector utilities have a long history.

No idea who those guys are but kudos for standing up for their principles.

It was a lack of basic human moral principles that made them publish that hit piece in the first place. Not owning up to an obvious and tasteless mistake doesn't make it principled. I didn't think the gawker network could sink lower but they dug a hole to china this time.

But....that's socialism! [/outrage]. These customers would be much better off with the private market that won't actually service them.

You do understand that FPS, as referenced in the context of Star Citizen, is a "mechanic" and not it's genre, right?

Star Citizen is being developed as what amounts to a whole new genre: a First Person Experience

So now you are trying to argue that the mere mention of the camera perspective (when the first person space sim genre was clearly what they were referring to back then) automatically includes FPS as a mechanic. By the same logic any and all genres with first person perspectives are now part of the design doc. That certainly explains some of the warped expectations of rabid backers. When will the first person puzzle and first person building modules be out? After the first person surgery module? Or after the first person janitor module?

You're funny. You already answered your own question. I put it in bold and underlined it for you.

the FP in FPS stands for First Person, in case you forgot.

You understand that camera perspective and game genre are different things?

I haven't had that much of a problem with the game as others, but what the hell got fucked up in the code that it takes this long...incompetent.

I've read theories that they didn't properly adapt it from the unified memory of the consoles to the split pools of the PC. Supposedly when it goes to move data between the two types of RAM it doesn't have the speed it's looking for leading to the stuttering or massive frame drops depending on how powerful your rig is. If that's true it isn't something they can fix quickly. Considering there were entire graphical effects missing from the game (until the 1st patch) it isn't unreasonable to believe they fucked the memory management up that badly too.

I've got two of these Batman games sitting in my Steam Library. Erm...Arkham Asylum and City. I think I played about 2-3 hours of City, but it really was monotonous and just lost interest and freed up HD space by deleting it. I dunno, they just didn't grab me, and this one looked the same.

You might like the first one more. It's a very guided and story driven experience that doesn't have the repetition of an open world game. Imo it's the best of the series, but then I prefer that style of game.

People in Canada have said the same thing, compared to America's offerings. I guess they license per country...

There's a ton of shit on the American site...hard to keep up with it all.

Yup, we get about 1/3 the content up here because the ISP's that are also media companies don't want us using other services. And when people use VPN's to get around that they call us thieves. Fortunately (at least here anyways) there isn't much in legal terms they can do about it.

I seem to recall one or two people here blasting "whiney PC gamers" for being childish and demanding refunds when the game only needed a "quick patch" like every other game. Derp.

Looking forward to playing it eventually.

We've got one being built here now, about 1/3 done. Situation isn't as bad as the ones Jon showed, it isn't costing nearly as much (small city) and the stadium it's replacing actually is old (first section was built in 1936). There was a petition to force a referendum on building the new one and it played out almost exactly like in the video and didn't get enough signatures. It'll create jobs! It'll stimulate the economy! The team will leave! Etc.

But I will give kudos to Stardock for creating a game framework so mundanely number based and by-the-books that making better AI for it was much easier. All they needed to do was sacrifice interesting combat and races to do it. Yay I guess...

Just in case people come in here thinking it's a game universally thought to be boring, it isn't.

Still not sure why you are making combat comparisons between a turn based game and a real time game.

Map packs for Gal Civ? Aren't all the maps procedural? Or are these hand-crafted scenarios?
Hand crafted maps. Designed to be symettrical etc to give every race an even chance. Otherwise they are procedural.

And has anyone been playing GalCiv 3? Any opinions vs. MOO2 and GalCiv 2?

Never played the MOO games but it's a good iterative upgrade on Galciv2. Tech trees are deeper, AI is good as usual, UI got a nice overhaul, some nice new features. It can't match the depth of content of Galciv2 after the Dark Avatar and Arnor expansions but it's better than vanilla Galciv2 was (or vanilla Civ5 for that matter). If something like espionage or terror stars not being added yet bums you out then it's to best wait for an expansion.

I will say it's a great engine though, you can really see what they were talking about with their push for 64-bit. This thing just purrs during late game when it's predecessor and others in the genre would start to chug. I haven't tried any of the crazy map sizes though yet. Also the music I've found surprisingly good.

Then they will ignore the mandate anyway, and the government won't follow up. That's what always happens with these things.

And if the rare instance someone has the balls to bring it up the industry reps will pull out some bullshit statistics and maps that are proven incorrect with 5 minutes of research but the politicians who have received "campaign donations" will just act as an echo chamber and demand the FCC & govt stop meddling in the private sector.

Nice to hear they aren't breaking compatibility too bad, good on MS for that. And good on GOG for testing this proactively, the same old games that are available on Steam don't get that kind of intervention. GOG continues to be a great company to buy from.

But if they did, then people would just unlock anything they wanted - which would eliminate the MMO progression and turn things into a giant DM sandbox - which is basically what you get from a private DM server.

IMO the biggest draw would have been conversion mods to other IP's. It would probably take awhile to make one at this level of detail but it could have been sweet.

Unfortunately if it's true they've nixxed the idea due to technical reasons it lends evidence to the theory that what they've promised to make simply isn't feasible.
