Just a few more patches and it'll be safely out of alpha.

I don't envy the task of trying to right the ship after the last movie. Hopefully the 50 IQ points all the characters seemed to have lost between VII and VIII come back.

Anthem isn't even complete on the conceptual level, never mind the rest of it. It's most unique and redeeming feature (flying) wasn't even a sure thing until the EA rep told them he liked it. There's just nothing else there that isn't generic as hell.

Nothing less than a FFXIV style restart could salvage it, but I doubt that level of commitment exists. You just know the beancounters are looking hard right now at the potential losses of further development. Also judging by the working conditions it'll probably kill the poor exhausted staff.

That's just PR, internally there was a push to get Frostbite across the board on all of their titles. No one ever wants to switch away from Unreal Engine, the toolset is so robust and well documented. They simply didn't want to pay royalties and Dice pushed for it at the right time. Not by coincidence, it started when Soderlund from Dice became more and more entrenched in the corporate culture of EA.

Oh I agree that's entirely possible, but in the case of Andromeda it was a former General Manager saying it was Biowares choice. I realize he could still be covering for EA despite working elsewhere, I'm just saying that they had already made bad engine decisions over and over. So if it isn't ironclad that they have to use Frostbite it wouldn't surprise me if they did anyways just to shoot themselves in the foot some more.

EA absolutely deserves blame for that Frostbite push you mentioned, both for apparently not having sufficient resources to support all of their studios using it nor proper dev tools or engine features to make games in other genres.

I mean, let's not go giving EA a free fucking pass here. They MANDATE that every studio uses that garbage shit engine, and then refuse to give them support because FIFA needs it, and then took the few devs within Bioware that knew Frostbite and put them on FIFA. It's literally like EA just WANTED Bioware to die.

Which, I have to say, they've done a good job of.

I have no desire to ever give EA credit, but according to Bioware they weren't forced to use Frostbite with either Andromeda or Anthem. If one should take them at their word at this point is debatable, but it lines up with another dumb decision they made regarding not using the engine modifications from prior projects. I recall this exact tidbit came up during the Andromeda post-mortem too, how they had to modify the engine to run basic features of the game like 3rd person cameras, detailed facial animation and inventory functions, and didn't recycle any of the tech developed to do that in Inquisition. It seems like they just wanted to do things from scratch each time, and when it imploded on them they kept fucking doing it.

With those kinds of timelines it's no wonder it turned out half finished and burned up so much of the staff. To do that much of the work in a modern game in such a short time? Insanity. Are you trying to kill people with overworking and stress? Assholes.

It'll get killed eventually, but good luck to em. Looks incredible so far.

God I miss these games. To think all we've got now is junk like Pride and Accomplishfront II.

I look forward to the botched launch and grindy/p2w game economy that results in negative feedback so strong that it generates memes. You get a real sense of pride and accomplishment when that happens.

$46 million? Was that the cost for some new super ultimate backer tier? Must come with a lot of nice pictures of theoretical intangible digital ships that might get coded someday.

I'm sure he came in his pants thinking about having everyone pay for the infrastructure deployment, then paying as customers for the connection, then having businesses pay to access the customers, then having the customers pay to access the content they want, then charging everyone a recovery fee for any taxes the ISP has to pay.

Don't forget also making sure they're the only private carrier available in many areas, and lobbying to block municipal deployment of internet if they try to set up their own service. You don't want pesky competition after all.

Another 3570k user here and yeah the old girl is starting to choke on content even when OC'd, the BFV beta did not run well. But its lasted over 6 years rock solid and that's a damn fine run. Currently mulling a 2700X or 9700k in the near future, or waiting until Zen 2. With their substantial price advantage right now I'm leaning AMD for the first time since Athlon.

Not really surprising. The marketing for V is a godamn dumpster fire, especially when compared to how well they marketed 1. They also burned a lot of bridges with the Battlefront 2 so people are probably taking a wait and see approach. Maybe EA will finally learn a lesson. Hah, jk.

Of course, immediately after that he went on his show and told his listeners he was lying in court, which cost him custody rights with his children. Because judges don't like to hear they're being lied to.

Also a goody, his lawyer arguing that no reasonable person would believe what he says. If only that were true.

Picard stated with critical accuracy that with the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably. Those words were uttered as a wisdom and warning. The first time any person's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged.

I quoted a modern philosopher, you quoted a fictional character that flies around in spaceships. You also quoted an episode where he uttered that line to counter a conspiracy theorist that was attacking innocent people, whose investigation was shut down by her society to prevent the type of harm she was causing. Sounds familiar?

"She, or someone like her, will always be with us, waiting for the right climate in which to flourish; spreading fear in the name of righteousness."

That is Jones. Be like Picard, don't tolerate these people.

The paradox of intolerance applies here.
Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.
Limiting the kind of hate and fabricated news that Jones peddles in order to sell bone broth has more of a positive effect on public discourse than negative. It is a last resort of course, but a recent quote I read recently struck home. Nazi imagery was born in Germany and stamped out with censorship post-WW2. Their people decided the danger from the ideology too great to be tolerated. Those rules still apply today and yet the country manages to score highly in freedom indexes. But now those symbols have taken root in the US.
