This.

CD Projekt... the developer that removed the DRM from their release in a patch, without communicating it to their publishers. Haha, fuckign heroes!

They got sued for that...

Haha to me, that makes them all the more awesome!

Also, what about those marvelous patchreleases that include entirely new and extra content? CDProjekt is just fantastic. Even if you don't like there games, you'd be crazy to disagree.

Been playing with two friends for about 30 hours. 1 orange, bunch of purples.

None of us were impressed by the orange and the purples too were bogus. That's what happens when you let a loot generator on the loose on a game.

I'm the sniper, but both my friends want to be a sniper too. They say the assault rifle drops thus far are fucking hilarious. Bad accuracy, horrible stability, small clip size and damage that seems erroneously low.

Yeah it was. Well, jungles was mostly the beginning and much else was underground. But I was very young back then, so my memory is vague. But I dunno.. the way I saw that Deadlight guy moving about and sliding off higher edges gave me a flashback to Flashback for some reason. *sigh* Nostalgia.

Anyway this game worth the 10 euros?

Edit: No matter, I just read ASeven's comment. No matter how nice a game is, when it's that short.. I'm not paying.

It was just a project codename I think a space based ARPG would be interesting but only if they did something new with it. ARPGs in general are getting a bit stale, so little innovation so some fresh ideas and settings would be welcome.

I said nearly the exact same thing in a Torchlight II topic on here. Got some proper flames in reply, while I wasn't even flaming Torchlight.

Good to see there's a slim chance I actually am from the same planet as you guys. Those comments praising Rage got me believing otherwise, indeed.

King's Quest, Hero's Quest and Quest for Glory were the #1 games in my past that could create that perfect, euphoric bubble. (Do) we all know what I'm talking about(?). That.. sanctuary from reality -- the reason I honestly play games. It's not that I hate RL. I love it. But without a chance to escape it a few hours a week.. unhealthy stress about X would take me.

Can't wait for this kickstarted game!

Invested!

Prez wrote on Oct 17, 2012, 17:23:
The biggest thing I think was that it was pretty jarring for Doom fans that the series went from visceral run and gun to survival horror.
Doom 3's gameplay was a victim of the PC technology of the time. Recreating the Doom/Doom II experience with all of those enemies and items on the screen at once simply wasn't possible with the hardware available at the time of Doom 3's development since Carmack was pushing the game to have leading edge visuals. Sure, he could have made the game less demanding like Serious Sam and recreated the original experience, but that is not what he and id wanted. It also wouldn't have sold a lot of hardware upgrades like Doom 3 did which is what hardware vendors wanted.

However this is now 2012, and one big reason this re-release of the game is such a letdown is that Bethesda/id didn't use the opportunity to make the new "lost" missions in the game take advantage of the prevalent graphics hardware of the past eight years since Doom 3's release to recreate the original Doom gameplay experience in the Doom 3 engine.

I don't agree at all with this assesment.

Rather than to say Doom 3 was a victim of the PC technology of the time, you can instead say that the original Doom was simply the product of the technology of the time.

Doom had rooms full of zerging monsters because that's what the FPS games were like, back then. I don't think it was such a USP-ish concious decision. To completely redo the third game in that same fashion wouldn't make as much sense as you think, imho.

I personally think -- and Prez can laugh at this -- that Doom 3 wasn't bad at all. It was too long, yes, but not a bad game. To me, it felt like it held true to the original concept of the game. Familiar enemies returned, etc.

To basically say Doom 3 wasn't good because it wasn't Serious Sam in a demon coat is stupid.

I really like the sound of this. I thought it rather dumb that they (hardly) mentioned the fact that you're the freaking DRAGONBORN, saviour of Skyrim, Sovngard and the entire Tamriel, in Dawnguard. I only remotely applauded the implementation of the undead dragon.

So yeah. Looking forward to this one.

My goodness, Rage was good ("in many ways")?!

I guess I'm somehow not of this planet.

Rage would have been good in the earliest years of 2000, maybe. If it wasn't for the vehicles I would've guessed the game didn't even have a proper physics engine -- corpses surely didn't!

The graphics looked horribly crap. Shadows looked moreso like ugly phlegms of green than actually shadows. And not to mention the texture pop-ups. Actually the entire game was a freaking insult to the entire PC platform.

Rage was good. Heh...

I try to like this game because many somehow do. But why is it just ugly even on highest settings? Truly, people don't see a Singularity similarity but compare 2 screenshots and the *tadaaaa!* effect that follows is remarkable. Gameplay wise.. same thing.

Actually it has that same cheap look and feel that the games Singularity and the neqest Wolfenstein had. Am I truly the only one who keeps getting reminded to that while playing? It's not like it's some hidden agenda of mine that I somehow WANT to make these connections. I wish I couldn't and didn't.

Please enlighten me regarding loot!

How come that it's a "finders keepers" system in Borderlands? I started playing with a friend of mine and before he knew it, I snatched the first shotgun drop away before his eyes. Afterward he looted an entire contained full of weapons while I was down there somewhere trying to survive an onslaught!?

Now, luckily we have Skype and are RL best mates so we shared guns fairly but how can this system work with random players?

Seriously can somebody please explain? Is there some unwritten rule about this that people follow? Like not attacking a jedi with his lightsaber off in Jedi Outcast's FFA (sigh.. good times..)?

I'm itching to buy this game, but I told myself to choose between Borderlands 2 or Torchlight 2.

The problem in both cases is that I don't have any Steam friends, because I've only started using it basically since Skyrim (before Skyrim I thought Steam was still the same pile of shit I once thought it was).

I have 2 questions for this community:

1. Can EU players play with US players and do you need to have the players as friends in order to do so?
2. If you had to choose between Torchlight 2 or Borderlands 2, which one would you choose if price difference didn't matter and you love both genres as much?

Yeah 'tis a big dilemma for me. On the verge of buying both but need to safe up for next year's Route 66 vacation. ^^

It's all about skill and self-sufficiency. Holy trinity creates a ludicrous inter-dependency and quite frankly has been done to death, there was room for innovation here and they achieved it.

You are on the right track, but you don't take this thought far enough. The problem with the traditional Trinity is that it inevitably ends up relying on DPS over the other two. I'm not talking any one specific boss or instance, I'm talking on the whole. You end up with things like timers, boss rage mode, etc., that clearly illustrate this fact. Yet people still embrace it as if it were the best and only way to do things, when in reality it should have been abandoned the very second it was no longer a true "trinity."

It was much less noticeable in the MMO's of old, where you had either dedicated and professional players, raids of 40 people, or different mechanics entirely. What you have in its place is a stale and modern standard that ultimately is casual in its reliance. That's why DPS is the king of the Trinity now - people like to do damage more than they like to heal or tank. It's just more flashy, and easier to level. So this is very much a symptom of underlying issues in the entire paradigm.

The mold needs to be broken. ...

I highly disagree with your unmatched misrepresentation of the holy trinity. It's cool not to like it, but to make nonsensical statements about it is something else entirely.

The way you put it, the holy trinity has always been about DPS. It's like you're playing some weird... vague red herring game here. The whole idea of the holy trinity has always been about the tank keeping the aggro of most if not all mobs, the healer keeping the players up and the DPS trying to get the boss+mobs down as quickly as possibly.

The synergy in this is that...:

1. if the DPS don't do their job right, the healer gets out of mana, the tank dies --> the rest dies;
2. if the Tank doesn't do his job --> everyone dies;
3. if the healer doesn't do his job --> everyone dies.

The other people agreeing with NewMaxx, too, didn't honestly and critically question his misrepresenting.. well, nonsense.

The beauty of that system is not only that it works if the players know what they're doing (GRANTED: WoW has become too mainstream and easy ALMOST to a point most noobs can tank -- healing can still be a challenge for them) but ALSO the solid, almost unavoidable interaction between the players -- which is what one would seek in an MMO? -- because:

1. If you're a good, anticipating tank, you often get compliments;
2. If you're a good healer who manages to keep an entire team alive when everything goes to shit, you often get compliments;
3. If you're a good DPS class, and you manage to do allot of damage and/or crowd-control when necessary so that the tank and healer can handle the stress, you often get compliments.

There is tons of positive feedback in WoW even to this day. People still connect with eachother. Every day. Always. And I honestly and wholeheartedly believe it is because of the trinity.

A little disclaimer here: I'm not saying GW2 "should have had!!" a holy trinity -- I would've wanted it but tough shit for me. This comment was merely to correct the bullshit meter of NewMaxx and some of the people who blindly agreed with him.

O_o

I didn't like GW2 at first but have been playing the crap out of it the last week or so. I hated WoW at first, too, and wound up playing it for years. I like most of the MMO's that have come out in some way or another, honestly, from GW1 to Warhammer.

The two games aren't disparate, it's not like we're talking Second Life to Guild Wars here. There's bound to be considerable overlap in player base among fantasy MMORPG's of any kind.

That's why I think my PC & Mac analogy was fair in that it acknowledges exactly that. Adding that third party to my analysis felt unnecessary and would've only slowed my and the reader's momentum in getting to my point.

And I'm exactly the opposite. After playing WoW from beta to Cata, I'd rather jab a pen into my eyeball then log into WoW at this point. Obviously for many, many years I enjoyed WoW. It was a GREAT game for a MMORPG noob like myself. But my goodness, it's so old and stale now. Then SWTOR, ugh, horrible WoW ripoff but not as good.

GW2, some fresh, new ideas, new, well crafted, explorable world, no subscription, no pressure. Will I play it all those years I played WoW? Depends on xpacs, but doubtful. The thing is, right NOW, I actually look forward to logging in and playing. Can't say that about WoW now for years.

I can't say that's really... fair, if you will... to WoW.

Of course one gets sick and tired of any game at some point. However, I think you're being dishonest to yourself when you say you're the exact opposite in that you can't apprehend why one would chose WoW's style over GW2's. After all, you've enjoyed it from the BETA TO CATA! That's allot of freaking years, brother. To me, without wanting to put words in your mouth, it sounds like you now prefer GW2 over WoW due to nothing but the... well, change of pace factor.

I agree with you WHOLEHEARTEDLY that WoW is getting old, indeed. But the essential system on which its success is built is one that isn't getting old and can only be improved upon. Considering the fact you've played it since vanilla up to lately makes the question whether you agree with me on the matter or not a rhetorical one indeed.

Only 2 Million? I would have guessed far more considering how polished and not like other MMO's it is. I find it far more fun to run around and explore and do events in this than I ever have any other MMO. People need to stop playing WoW.

Instead, GW2 made a few palls of mine and myself go back to WoW instead.

I'm not going to flame GW2 anymore. I've spend a fair amount of time doing that already in an earlier topic. What I have come to realize is that, quite simply, at this moment there are 2 types of MMO players: Those that like the WoW types and those that like the GW2 types.

Now, all WoW clones suck and fail miserably and GW2 is basically one of a kind (to me, in all its shortcomings) thus we come at a conclusion that there are WoW lovers and GW2 lovers. It's much like PC & Mac.

I cannot apprehend why one would chose GW2's style over WoW's, because to me "strength in sinergy" is better than "strength in numbers (and chaos?)" by definition. Here I'm of course referring to the holy trinity in WoW and lack thereof in GW2. In the week I tried GW2, I ended up prefering solo play over the visual mess that comes with the big "dynamic events". But one does not really play MMO's for its lukewarm singleplayer experience...

That's that for my little pathetic attempt to analyze the WoW vs GW thing. Sorry for again critisizing GW2 in the process. Couldn't help it.

While you make good points about my original message -- I was about 6 glasses of Ancient Age bourbon heavy at that moment! -- I still wouldn't point at it and scream "Trollolololol!". You didn't do that, but those who did are generally the fanboy types that can't handle their perfect game being critisized.

I still don't understand your skidding point. Are we playing a different game? The skidding looks just as bad as WoW's, an even worse if you count the speed in which you fall toward the ground. IF there is any animation to it, you have to show it to me in slow-motion.

However you wanna justify it, this community (almost in particular) has a knick for acting particularily hostile toward others in that typicall smart-ass demeanor that would embarace the most ambitious asshole. Some people, like myself, react to that. And, debateable, perhaps not in the most efficient manner.

But yes, you're correct that if I don't like it it doesn't mean others shouldn't like it. Let alone the fact that I DO like the game, the defensive stance some of the community takes on in favor of the game is unnecessary and.. haha, simply laughable.
