Thanks jacobvandy and Jerykk!
I almost hit the add to cart button on Dark Souls, until the guy after you mentioned the horribly keyboard & mouse feel. I guess I need to explore the reception of DS some more before I decide.
Jarykk, very interestimg what you wrote! BUT... is it just me or is the trial & error thing in stealth games kinda what makes them interesting? As a matter of fact In games Like Deus Ex 3 I didnt buy the upgrades that make you see vision cones and the radial sound feedback thing. The NOT knowing how much noise you can or shouldnt make adds to the immersion and fun of stealth. Dear god do I hope Thief 4 won't have all that stuff MotN has...
But for a 2d game it sounds fun! Will buy it! |

Can someone tell me why Mark of the Ninja gets such fantastic reviews? Sure, I guess it's a good 2D indie game but to say crap like "the benchmark to all future stealth games"!? Really?!? I'd love someone who played it to tell me his thoughts on thegame a little. Thanks in advance!
Also, same goes for Dark Souls. All I remembered reading was it's a crappy port and difficult to an extend it really isn't fun...? Again, can someone who played it enlighten me a little about what the game is about?
PS: I ask this community because review sites are full of crap in general. |

This will suck. Mark my words.
What you need to do with a game when the enemy is absolute evil and is impossible to reason with, is to another kinda layer to it that adds depth. I've seen the early footage and this garbage, and it goes without saying that this will be another Serious Sam wrapped in a Aliens disguise. Just let them come a'zergin'!
Bah. |

Oh please, oh please! Don't bury my hate for the game under a pile of you-expected-more-from-iD-is-all reasoning. It's dishonest. Atleast to me.
I never -- never! -- understood RAGE's hype. The trailers looked as bland as the game turned out to be. I couldn't care less about the developer. If gameplay trailers look good, a dev with a good reputation is only a bonus. If a game looks uninteresting, the dev's reputation is meaningless.
Forget about the history of developers, people. It's not far from a childish and naive look at things. I hope we've learned that after id's and bioware's fiasco.
No. RAGE was bad in many aspects, some ar even objective fact. Like those fucking graphics -- the occasional fanboy might call them stunning, but that's fanboys talking. And the physics... ffs I saw corpses clip through walls because their dying animation demanded it. It's so fucking year 2000.
Why the hate? Because the game was just that crap, and my anger-management issues just light up when a community full of nitpicking assholes (myself included ofc) somehow thinks this game was alright or even stunning or great. Ffs.

Ugh, tell me what was good about Rage that it doesn't deserve the hate from every single one of us!
Was it the bland, washed out graphics? Was it the lack of a noticeable physics engine? Was it the lame, lame story? Was it the boring mini-games? Was it the "open world" riddled with invisible walls? Was it the shortness of the game?
Ok maybe that last one is a fair and positive point.
Or.. did it all just come back to the vehicles and the races?
Seriously, I wanna know. People can slam their dicks to shreds in this community because Far Cry 3's HUD is nasty or whatever.. but RAGE -- that taint of the decade! -- isn't even frowned upon by most here.
It boggles ze mind is what it does. |

Tried it for a meager 20 mins do far. Graphics look awful to me. Blurry, or something. Kinda like that Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 engine looked blurry in a way.
I wasn't impressed at all. But I only tried Team Deathmatch. I heard from my cous' that the Siege mode is pretty good! |

theyarecomingforyou wrote on Dec 15, 2012, 07:25: OMG, they're actually charging for this? That's just adding insult to injury. They haven't addressed the horrifically low resolution textures that plagued the game, as if you look at the new screenshots they all have high texture detail for the character models and textures from 1994 for the environments. Look at this screenshot to see what I mean - all the environment textures are low resolution, overexposed, incongruent with surrounding textures and it's almost impossible to determine what material they're trying to portray.
The first thing they should have done was to release free DLC that added an actually ending to the game, which was alluded to in conversations with characters but never materialised. The second thing they should have done was to release the high resolution textures that Carmack talked about - even if they weren't much better it would have at least shown they were serious. And finally they should have released the mod tools that they said were going to be released with the game.
This is too little too late. Thank god. There's still ppl out here with an opinion that makes sense to me.
I mean, RAGE! FFS! That game just fucking sucked, right? Or was it actually released in 1998? Then it's revolutionary and damn good lookin'....... |

Too often still i catch myself being too freaking naive. This time again, while I wa thinking for just a second that absolutely no one in the entire world would buy this DLC or even give a shit.
Rage was so fucking crap -- such an insult of a port, even -- that I just can't wrap my head around the fact that some pc players actually love the game.

Mordecai Walfish wrote on Dec 12, 2012, 21:18: FPS target is a frame limiter, I thought. You cant set it to 80 fps and magically optimize the game to run at 80FPS, for example. You will need to change graphics options to do that, which is what the nVidia program is designed to assist users to do.
GeForce Optimizer: "Use these settings (in these few games) that others have found acceptable" and "We will lower your IQ to get higher FPS"
Precision X : "Use whatever settings you like including those found above and we will improve your cards performance to reach your desired FPS if possible." and "In any app"
Precision X has greater functionality than a mere 'performance bucket' reference table. Precision X can improve your cards performance, the GeForce Optimizer ironically can not.
Precision X's only limitation is it's EVGA requirement, RivaTuner is the any-nvidia brand equivalent. So it's basically like ATI overdrive or any other software that pushes your GPU to its limits. I have always -- always! -- had issues with these things. It makes my computer unstable somehow.
I find all that software that "monitors" your hardware a pile of crap. How many times I've had my GPU crash because it got to hot, only to increase the fanspeed AFTER the fucking crash. It's so tiresome. I've turned my back and walked away from that PC raping bullshit. Never noticed significant performance increases anyway. |

Be direct all you want. I welcome it, even.
I've never played with a monitor higher than 60hz. I've been in an RTCW / ET clan in my early days and I, quite simply put, cannot imagine WHY I would need a game to run any smoother than how it does on 60 frames a sec.
But I can't really know if I haven't tried and you call me on it, and that's fine. Way more charming than blocking me
Dishonored still sucks though. |

I spoke too soon, then. Thought 'twas a fact. No idea what my source was all those years back.
Still, not that it matters a single fuck whether you play a game on 60 or 80 or 120. Not even if you're in an FPS clan either. Been there done that. To me, at least, 60 fps is 100% smooth gameplay. |

Prez wrote on Dec 12, 2012, 07:02:
Well then you learned something valuable from this today, as you can *always* set AF to 16x in any game you play and it will look much better, with little to no performance hit =) Thats not something you even have to think about when you're setting up gfx options. Just set it 16x and forget it =P I appreciate that, though I WILL forget it in a day or ... erm... what were we talking about again?
I recognize this behaviour.
Honestly, Prez, it's not as intimidating as you think. There are truly only a FEW gfx terms you "should" get familiar with in order to know your own best setup for games. Those terms are the ones you mostly find in the graphic options in games.
I don't know how MSAA works. I just know it's a form of antialiasing (smoothing edges around 3d objects, it's a term you probably know and should) but somehow gives your performance a shot in the knee. Therefore I couldn't care less about MSAA, and usually just turn it off. I'm very happy with the "normal" antialiasing option.
I don't know how Anistrophic Filtering works. I just know it makes textures in the distance look sharper. I'd never seen it impact performance significantly so I usually just turn it to max and forget about it.
I don't know how Ambient Occlusion works. I just know it makes the 3D objects "stand out" less and "blend in" with the environment more. I know it impacts performance, so if a game runs like crap I know this is one of the features I should tweak first. I've no idea what's the difference between HBAO, HDAO or SSAO so I try the option the game considers the best first and go down from there if my performance sucks.
Other than those 3 terms I really don't know what other terms you have problems with tbh. It's not rocketscience and you shouldn't approach it like it is. Maybe you're an old man, but please don't be one of those men that's intimidated by the latest tech. It's insulting |
