Sold!

The shape of my wallet begins to imprint itself on my screen!

Lords of the Fallen
GTAV (PC)
Risen 3
And many more great titles are coming out somewhere around september that I can't wait to spend my money on!

This trailer. Man, I was ignoring Risen 3 until now. Now I... I can't stop throwing this goddamn piece of leather against my screen!

DayZ is the current meme, like Minecraft was. It's the in thing to buy atm.

I don't think you understand what a meme is. Minecraft is still super popular, btw. Nothing past tense about it. They've sold about 54 million copies thus far and are still going strong. If Minecraft were available on Steam, it would probably be the top seller.

Sigh, why am I the only person around here who understands sociological concepts like what a meme is?

A meme (/ˈmiːm/ meem)[1] is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture."[2] A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures.[3]

Does that help clarify it for you? Allow me to simplify. Little Johnny here's of a 'kewl' product or service that's getting popular. And like most of societies mouth breathers Little Johnny lacks the self-esteem to buck trends. So rather than risk social isolation he jumps on the bandwagon. Now Little Johnny is part of the "in-crowd", and his other little pea-brain pals have to join in or they risk being ostracized as well. See how that works?

The definition in the first paragraph doesn't match the definition in the second. The second describes a fad while the first is so broad that it can be applied to just about anything popular. When people speak of "meme" in a modern context, they are specifically referring to things like doge or ceiling cat or bucket walrus. While such memes do tend to be short-lived and could therefore be called fads, "fad" and "meme" are not necessarily synonymous.

The truth is that you simply dislike DayZ and don't understand its popularity and thus you feel obligated to dismiss its success as hollow and undeserved. It's a means of self-validation and lets you feel like your opinion is correct even if it conflicts with the opinions of the majority.

Can't believe you tried to run from your fuck-up with a cheap "The truth is ...", lol. Cutter was using the phrase correctly and you were very wrong faulting him for it.

As for Divinity being on #1 again... that's just great to see! Loving the game so much. On vacation in Italy atm, but I'd lie if I said I didn't miss my champions!

ESO in the list too, huh? Glad to see. There's allot of time and passion put into this game. You'll know if you'd tried it.

The last gameplay trailer I saw showed this game will be utterly bad. It was hard to see for the inexperienced eye, but let me guarantee the lot of you: this game will suck. Just a fair warning. Don't let me say I hate to say I told you so.

Loved playing it. Looking back at it I have fond memories. Sadly, every good non-MMO game is always better... and while I was absolutely loving ESO, it got quickly forgotten with the new singleplayer releases (Watch Dogs, Divinity, Sniper Elite 3, Wolfenstein, etc).

In retrospect, as an MMO the game has failed too hard. I wonder how it could've been that this panel of designers didn't realize anywhere in the development process that in order to have a succesful MMO, there has to be a good & fun reason for players to band together. Ironically, because ESO had such terrific quests and NPC's/voice-acting... teaming with other players only distracted you from the good stuff.

Thank you, Verno, or "poster-that-I-don't-have-on-ignore", for shining that knightly light on the situation...

The fact of the matter is that nothing happened that doesn't happen in right about every single thread in this place. It wasn't even an insult I put out there, just a freaking honest observation. Yes, it was off-topic, but again, hardly any thread stays on-topic here and that's fine.

If what you mean to say is that if Nin doesn't like what he reads he has the influence to remove said comment... then that's just disgusting.

I know you're not reading this, because you put people on ignore when they disagree with you, but that's alright. There's a message in here that's ok to be conveyed to onlookers.

Yup it's absolutely ridiculous and I'm very happy to see you read my comment before it was removed and also disagree with the removal of it, Dmitri.

Sometimes I can be an ill tempered Italian little fucker but that wasn't the case this time. At all.

It's fucking ridiculous that some people can get away with openly telling others to put people on ignore, while all I did here was raise a valid question about someone. Pisses me off.

REMOVED?! What the hell!? What I said really wasn't even remotely within reason to be removed. Blue, this makes absolutely no sense and I'm sure you're scratching your chin right now thinking "Why the hell did I do that?" especially after being confronted by the hypocricy pointed out in Axis' earlier confrontation.

@sauron

The non-lethal approach is entirely doable in Dishonored. As a Thief junkie this is what sold the game to me.

Agreed!

Oh cool! I didn't realize. Thanks guys.

Hmm, maybe one to pick up, then. Although Divinity: Original Sin also looks kinda great right now.

If you want to do a non-lethal approach in this shithole of a game, you can basically teleport your way to the end of each mission. It's only because I am a completionist that I decided not to finish each mission within 5 minutes but went for the secrets and the occasional knock-out. Also, going non-lethal means you're not going to use about 80% of the features and skills the devs have put 80% of the development time in.

Ugh, god I hate this game.

Ah! Yes, the first "chapter" is really testing your patience like that. IMO it's too much blablablablabla and too little pewpew to start a game's story with.

Once you start venturing outside of the settlement, head west and toward the lighthouse but not before you go to the commander (Arius or something?) in the settlement who gives you the quest to do just that. There are enemies on the road and you'll complete some minor quests. Lovely XP boosts.

You should be around lvl 14 before you decide to venture further north.

Everyone's saying the combat is tough. I guess I'm having the perfect group:

Rogue. Cleric. Mage. 2h Warrior.

The mage and warrior are the ones from the first settlement. The warrior nearly oneshots bosses, and since she can't move much per turn I always drop her near the toughest enemy using mage's teleport/kamikaze skill. She does damage with the landing, and when it's her turn I use the men-at-arms Flurry skill.. obliberating any but the toughest enemies/bosses.

When my Rogue gets behind an enemy, he can basically backstab until the enemy is dead before his turn ends.

All 4 classes can heal and use CC abilities.

This is what sickens me these days. This open-book thing. What happened ot their so called "artistic integrity"? Hypocrites. They don't realize they're not asking all gamers -- they're asking the opinion of the small % of gamers who waste their time being obsessive enough to respond to this inquiry.

You can see it in TV series too. The 3% of obsessed loudmouths on the internet ruin it for the entire fanbase these days, because writers are forced by the panel of unseen judges to listen to these morons. It's why Hannah Mckay ("She so sexy! We loves her!") ruined Dexter and the Eric("He so sexy! We loves him!")-Sookie-Bill love triangle ruined TrueBlood, and so on. And so on. And so on.

You also saw it happen in Mass Effect. "We loves companionz so much we care not for story just companionz COMPANINNOSSNZNNZ!!". It's why since ME2 companions aren't just an awesome extra participating to the story in sublevel fashion, but the entire story actually revolves AROUND the fuckers! It's why we got this weird concept in ME2 where you had to collect a series of psychopaths to save the universe from one of its biggest threads. Not an army, no... a handful of weirdos.

Fuck me. Had to get this off my chest, I guess...

But that's why I liked Mass Effect.. it was about companions, without that, the game would have been mediocre at best (ok, I guess the setting didn't fit it.. but so what ,p)

Sadly, for me it was the opposite. I hated the idea. It also was so lineair! Every recruitment was a little chapter/story of its own, completely remote of the main story, and you knew exactly where you were in the main story because of this list you were working down -- you nearly had all the recruits? You were nearly at the climax.

I know it's all subjective, this. But what is moreso objective is the observation that this new *thing* is going on that actually does destroy artistic integrity (how EA/Bioware destroyed that term!) -- the thing where devs ask what we want; where we want a story to go, and not just take those opinions and put it somewhere, but actually make it happen. -_-

Waves or not, crappy combat or not, I'm definitely buying this game. A game that seamlessly merges into rather cinematic cutscenes with dialogue options ala Mass Effect is an instant buy for me.

With just one look I can already tell this game is probably not going to be anywhere near as tactical as DAO. It will be more like Mass Effect -- remember ME combat also allowed you to pauze for tactical input, though we hardly had to use that feature.

If this game will be as story driven as ME with swords, magic and dragons... fuck me, instant buy fo sho!

When a personality is active the AI will automatically make dialogue choices (based on its personality) for the avatar that isn't selected.

Won't this be horribly annoying? Sometimes I really, really, really want to pick a certain choice like forgiving someone instead of executing them on the spot. If this AI will automatically pick the other option and I'm left with a rock-paper-scissor game against my own companion... I'd be rather frustrated when I lose.

It's like they have absolutely no idea what they're doing or want to do with the next title yet. We've had multiple different, completely contradicting statements from the devs ("We're halfway!" / "We haven't decided where to go with the story yet!" .. wtf?) and there's no footage to speak of.

So far I have zero hope or anticipation for this game. Then again, I'm not sure I want to play a new ME game from these devs. I played the earlier games desperate to make peace with the Geth. In part 3 I finally did, only to obliberate them in the end because of the lesser evil choice. Blegh, screw this franchise. Just remembering the ending fuck-up pisses me off.

PS: Still waiting for a good and proper anno 2014 RPG. Kinda like Alpha Protocol, just more awesome.

It does, doesn't it? One of the #1 games I'm looking forward to. It came out of nowhere to me. Too much PR is too much, but this title really needs/deserves more hype, I think.

Bought Severance - Blade of Darkness again for about 1 dollar on GOG. Started playing again. It still plays extremely well. Like I said: There's no game out there with better melee combat. I disagree with the statement it's Dark Souls. That game doesn't play tankish, just sluggish -- specifically designed for you to die. As the Lords of the Fallen dev said: Our game is challenging like Dark Souls, just without the frustration. ^^
