Does it have something to do with exchange rates? Could be shipping, import taxes, higher wages in those countries for local personnel, higher benefits, exchange rates or all of the above plus more. I can't really say. I just know they have to match local prices.
Most of my Australian friends tell me Steam matches local prices but they can import for less, which is why they complain. In Australia, people pay equal to 8 -- EIGHT!! -- euros for a cappuccino. In the Netherlands, when you order one you pay between 2 to 3 euros.
I don't hear the Australians complain about that.
It is, indeed, because of the wellbeing of that country. People generally get paid around 3 times more than the same job would in The Netherlands and USA. |

Alien zergfest = fail.
They never freaking learn, do they? It's like all the decisions are made by arrogant fools with their head up their ass, with no intention to listen to the nerds in the background who know exactly what it is a good game needs. It's probably those morons you first met at school.. the ones with the annoying smirk and an act as if they know everything, unable to say "I don't know" even if they don't. Bah.
I digress a lot.
Anyway, I knew this game was gonna fail when I saw the alpha preview footage some years ago.. and this giant Alien came bashing through what I can only remember as a junkyard.. and the player was supposed to be scared. I threw my arms up in the air right there and then, and with it my last shreds of hope that mayyybe this Alien game was gonna be alright... |

Holy shit these comments bore the hell out of me No idea what all of you are talking about! Ghost in the Shell? Cyberpunk? What?
I had no idea this game was going to be based on a book or whatever.
Can't wait to see ingame footage. Wondering if this will be The Witcher meets Deus Ex.. somehow. |

And even I have to agree, the ship combat in AC3 was absolutely visceral and stunning. The sounds, the feeling, it was there. That is how I think (slightly unrealistic, but epic) ship combat can work in a game and be fun, if you just add a (proper) upgrade element, free roam and questing. It doesn't even need to during the 1800's .. basically any sufficiently armed and fast ship could work. Like PT Boats (You could make a great Fallout style scavenge game just cruising around finding stuff doing quests.. think Fallout on the Ocean) Hmm, to me it was the whole VoC feel to it that makes it so goddamn awesome. That, and the visuals, the sound, the gameplay.
Imagine a pirate game like this, where the story is as engaging as Mass Effect, the melee combat as engaging as Severance: Blade of Darkness, and the naval missions as awesome as AC3's! Skill-trees for naval combat, melee combat, exploration...
Fuck me. I want, no... NEED a game like that! |

You're thinking Amnesia meets Aliens, huh? It crossed my mind while I was writing my last comment, actually. I think it could work.
Not sure why the other guy wants Telltale Games to do it, though. The Walking Dead was neither scary nor realistic nor First Person nor anything I'd imagine a proper Alien game to be. |

These games should go one of two ways (but sadly SEGA always manages to make some disgusting concoction of both that's neither fun nor scary):
1. First Person "Serious Sam" style zerging and shooting, boom boom boom;
or, which is much more what I'd like to see..
2. First Person Survival/Horror, that's so freaking scary you shit your pants every step of the way.
Now, people like Jerykk might jump in and put to debate that games are never scary when you give the player a gun in their hands. Good point! But I argue that if you put a gun in the player's hand, make Alien encounters much more rare, make them move as quick as lightning as they should, and make them one-shot you once they're on you -- in other words make you indeed feel like a SHEEP among WOLVES XENOMORPHS!! -- now that's scary as shit.
And who doesn't wanna play that game? |

Hey folks, because I keep coming back to this community somehow.. but still sense a distance between meself and my fellow bluesnews members.. I've added some of you to my Steam account as friends!
Hope you guys accept. I'm not as much an asshole as some of you may think. Just anger management issues, GODDAMNIT!
Anyway adding you guys so we may join eachother in games like Torchlight 2 from time to time or whatever. Adds a nice dynamic.
Oh, it's Vince btw, but with the same avatar as Bluesnews'. |

You can't understand? Really!? The game has only been out for forever by now. No shit ppl have finished the main story!
Also, IMO a person stoops very very low when using prostitution mods. What do you want me to imagine? You holding your joystick while your Skyrim character is getting a blowjob? Ugh... But that's just my humble opinion..

I've always disliked the narrative of the series. The way the story is being told just doesn't immerse me. But Assassins Creed 3 is something else entirely. It's just plain bad writing. I'm halfway through the game and I've no idea what I'm doing and why, I completely lost sight of the point. It makes playing the game feel horribly useless. Turns out you're just some pissed off Indian who's assassin initiation was done by an unknown and forgettable old man in a dusty cellar.
Wtf. |

It IS pretty cool, though YMMV. I typically don't talk to many NPCs since I really don't care that they're having a tough life.
"yeah yeah, your husband died fighting a Giant. I got dragon souls to absorb, lady!"
Creston Yeah, I get adding color and such, but usually in these games I get annoyed when NPCs have unproductive dialogue trees. I don't want to know about your children, I just want you to queue up the next sequence of the quest I'm on. I realized I so completely agree with you guys... *cancelling download* |

PC taking over the consoles in the living room? Are you guys really that blind?!
The PC is BECOMING a console. Simple as that. I fucking spit on this fucked up idea.
There. I said it.
And like wtf_man said, there has to be a genius invention to put the comfort of the KB/M on my lap. Like him, one of my main reasons I'm not into consoles is because of the hideous controls.
Then again, if this is going to be a "PC in the living room" with a KB/M setting... well, one could just buy the proper cables and do this already. Even before this century.
"PC games now totally consolized -- because grass, too, is green! *wink*"

Anyway, in my last comment I was referring back to the comment you wrote before that one. First you say the game's port blows unless you download a file and use a controller. It was only in the later comment where you said the game is "playable" or whatever with a KB/M. Your tone was a telltale sign that I wouldn't be able to cope with it.
You see, controls wise a game shouldn't show signs of being a port if I want to even start enjoying it. DS evidently does.
It really shouldn't matter, though. You kinda act like I'm a moron for not liking/playing/trying the game. But like I said, give me a demo and I'll try it. |

The game is beatable with KB/M, just not optimal. It's not like they don't give you the option of using them at all but hey whatever, it's only one of the best games in the past five years. "The port blows but it's easily fixed by installing a single file and using a controller." Need I remind you of the thing you just said before, Verno?
I don't WANT to use a controller and I won't, therefore.. according to basic logic and your comment, the port blows -- debateable atleast for me it does, but I think a port blows either way when it can't properly implement KB/M gameplay.
"A sense of freedom you might encounter by leaving the asylum too :D" Whatever that means..? If that comment truly implies you didn't understand what I meant, which would be a rather sad thing indeed -- for every console+PC gamer I know knows what I mean by it, and even agree! -- then let me explain with an example: When I'm walking around in a game I want to freely look around, the same way I would in real life, instead of in that same 180-degrees-in-three-seconds kinda way a controller grants you. There's a certain amount of "tunnelvision", if you will, that you have to stoically accept when you use a controller. Atleast compared to proper KB/M gameplay.
Hope I cleared that up. There's no more time to elaborate further. The drugs are wearing off and the guards are looking for me...

Oh something else entirely, and pardon me for being off-topic here.. but:
WHEN can we expect the Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim?! I haven't read much about it and I didn't see any videos, all on purpose. When I read you can tame a dragon and it takes place in Solstheim, I was sold. I'm really looking forward to it! |

I can't stand half-assed ports. It's so 2004. From what I read here, Dark Souls definitely is one such port.
I'm disappointed. The game looks really cool in the vids and I really wanna try it out. Just not for €19,99. The port blows but it's easily fixed by installing a single file and using a controller. The game doesn't lend itself well to KB/M anyway, there are a lot of sections that require precision locomotion and movement that are better suited to analog sticks. It's an amazing game and there is little else like it on the market. Your loss. I don't play games with a controller. I hate them. It's one of the reasons I don't own a console. There's a sense of freedom that I don't need to explain to you, playing games with KB/M. It's a freedom I cannot miss, or a game simply would not be worth playing to me.
My loss, I'm sure. |
