Pop your chip card in the microwave for 3 seconds, then tell the clerks at the stores it's broken and make them manually enter the card information. Takes just as long, or longer, but lets the card companies know you're not going to accept any tech they want to foist on you.

Fight the power!

I'm certainly not the only one, but I haven't wanted to wear a watch since I was in grade school. The big Timex of the time were too dang clunky to have on while using the keyboards, and who the heck needs a clock when they have games to be playing?

I certainly haven't had the desire for a watch since I've grown up - every screen I look at, everywhere I go, already tells me the time, from the microwave to the computer - keep yer watches. Or maybe... We don't need no stinkin' watches!

Might explain why I think Dick Tracy is dumb crap also, ugh.

If you want the lower price you can also wait 6 months or so, and it will be on sale again, likely for less than it's currently going for.

3. Re: Rainbow Six Siege Season Pass Details Nov 13, 2015, 07:48 AlexSledge

The series went to garbage with Rainbow Six 3, and the contents of this season pass seem to indicate that the folks at Red Storm want very very different things out of a hard core realistic military shooter than I do.

When did all the military shooters turn into Barbie for Boys?

News Comments > BATTLETECH Hits PvP Stretch Goal
26. Re: BATTLETECH Hits PvP Stretch Goal Nov 2, 2015, 17:06 AlexSledge

So as to turn based multiplayer - the only way it really works is if the turns are timed, but we don't have those details, so I'll wait and see. There are many folks who multitask their gaming, turn based fits nicely for that.

The multiplayer feature is interesting, but pure PvP arena style battles don't have much appeal for me because I played MUSE/MUSH/MOOs in the early '90s where we'd be up at 3AM making resource runs in trucks defended only by a limping locust because we needed the materials to get our other mechs back online, or we'd stuble across a dropship incursion from one of the other houses and have to put in a call to arms to wake folks up at home and in their dorm rooms to take it out. Five team 24/7 turn based planetary conquest, nothing has compared since.

Though at the end, any Battletech that isn't MWO I consider a win. MWO was acceptable early on, but they've apparently drank from the same goblet as Games Workshop and appear to treasure their creation far ore than I do in a monetary sense.

For a small indie studio, they certainly have shown what kind of great things can be done by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Worth every penny.

Someone figured out Barbie for boys was a thing, and a way to make money from it. Good for them.

That aside it's a pretty decent team coop shooter.

Pretty simple. Advertisements are Evil. AdBlockers are the enemy of Advertisers, therefore any enemy of my enemy is my friend. AdBlockers are therefor good.

Ideally in place at a border gateway to prevent the advertisers net traffic from even reaching your local node.

I'm trying to grasp how a product which is an unsafe upgrade target for anyone due to the sweeping privacy and back door issues with Windows 10 somehow can be made "safe" for gamers by not having horrid performance.

I almost wish Amazon would buy the whole company. It would be an easy way to get a few brick & mortar locations, while at the same time continuing to support hobby electronics, although the bulk of components would likely work better as special order items (to the store location), freeing up some retail shelving for the pantheon of other Amazon goods.

Some potntial for win.

News Comments > SimCity 2000 Free on Origin
15. Re: SimCity 2000 Free on Origin Dec 10, 2014, 14:59 AlexSledge

I don't know why anyone brings up customer service. What are you doing that you need customer service from Steam or any other of these places? I've got over 10 years in Steam, and well over half a K of games in the library, and I've never once even considered the existence of customer service for Steam much less the need for it.

Even beyond that, what is going on that you need to regularly engage customer service enough that it becomes a deciding factor? You sure you aren't linked to EA/Origin yourselves and just trying to pimp that service?

But, if that's the deciding factor, well good on ya, have fun with Origin and your much improved customer service.

Steam already covers me and any needs I may have in the "one too many services installed and running on my machine using up cycles and bandwidth I'd rather it not be" area - do not need Origin or any of the other Johnny-come-latelies to try and break into the market and my network as well. First to market has won here for me, even though I resisted the hell out of Steam back in the CS 1.2 days.

If you have to ask why Valve > EA, you'll need to find someone to discuss it with.

13. Agree no Atlanta Jun 21, 2014, 08:58 AlexSledge

The last E3 I attended was the last held in Atlanta as well, cheers!

Though I have to agree that Hotlanta is a horrible place for anything that I (or sane people) want to attend, especially if held in the summer. Of course the west coast is just as useless to me - ideally everything would be held in the research triangle in North Carolina - not too hot, not too cold, not too far, and tech out the wazoo. On top of that the area is home to Epic, Red Storm, Funcom, and a good many other gaming companies as well as all your big tech names.

Ideal is the ideal word to describe it.

No, a robot can not give it's own TED talk - it would be delivering the messages of all the people involved in its creation, as coached by the final marketing arbitrators.

Oh, and the $3k video card is for people with too much money.

Developers have to sell to a market, therefore the bulk of work & testing is generally done at the commodity levels alongside their customer base. In a big AAA house you might convince the money men to allow a purchase like this for a few of the big name Sr Devs, and I'm sure the entire Star Citizen team is running them, but outside of that - just people with too much money.

I wouldn't invest so much energy into hating Facebook (not that I don't share in distaste for all things FB), but instead focus on the competition, and help them instead.

I'm not going to tell you who to back instead of Oculus, but there are other driven, capable, intelligent folks out there working on alternate solutions to the Oculus Rift which could use your support.

News Comments > 75 More Steam Greenlights
12. Re: 75 More Steam Greenlights Mar 20, 2014, 09:08 AlexSledge

I hope they segregate into at least two major groups - content truly worthy of promotion, and "the rest". Keep the proof of concept, early access, small market "cruft" out of my visibility until I am willing to explore out of the ordinary options for my entertainment.

Quite honestly I used to check the Apple App Store fairly regularly in the early days, but once the signal to noise ratio hit a certain level I stopped looking completely. It's word of mouth apps or those brought up in special interest forums that I occasionally check out (and buy if interesting enough).

Now as to the exact criteria - it can be as something simple as sales numbers - based on to-date including pre-order numbers, or complex including sales, critics reviews, player reviews, skewed by volume of votes, paid temporary promotion and the like. If anyone, Valve sure has the metrics.

Dang, now I wonder if the metrics gathering initiatives at Valve have any surveillance industry backing, financial or otherwise. Wouldn't have thought to ask a decade ago. Won't stop me from using it, though.

Without the balance of using actual money to continue or add health, the game doesn't really work. If I can continue an unlimited amount of times, without having to worry about running out of quarters, the danger of the game is gone. I find that you just start barreling through monsters, where in the arcade you actually take your time and try to avoid being hit.

Never you worry! Through the magic of micro-transactions all your wants and needs can come true! Instead of real quarters, you can buy WB-coinZ for $0.75USD to use just as you would real quarters in ye olden timey arcade machines! A victory for WB and players!

11. Re: Darkest Dungeon Kickstarter Feb 11, 2014, 11:57 AlexSledge

They've already hit their funding goal, so I'm happy about that.

If you look closely you see a majority of the game... the map in the lower right, the party details lower left, and the main combat window across the top of the main screen. Looks like it will have a lot more of a classic RPG feel to it, which I consider a good thing, though to each their own.

For someone who mentioned a more Dungeon Keeper like experience, look to Dungeon Forge (still in Kickstarter, and it appears they can use your love) - which is another that looks quite full of potential for me.

Bottom line is pretty simple. No.

Uplay, you're late to market, tough - no games requiring an alternative online DRM will be purchased, Steam won that fight, and it's over.

I'm not the only one with this stance, and I'm sure that there are plenty that are happy to blow whichever way the wind blows, and good luck to you.

Edit:
Actually, if they ever did a GOOD reboot of Pod, I would be tempted, because Pod kicked so much butt.
