News Comments > GameStar: Crytek in Financial Trouble
15. Re: GameStar: Crytek in Financial Trouble Jun 22, 2014, 14:25 Viper114

At first these guys did great. Far Cry 1 was pretty good, and then when they went over to EA, both Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead (and the MP Crysis Wars) were also pretty good, too. But when they suddenly decided that PC piracy was too rampant for them to continue and they branched out to consoles to compensate, suddenly things went awry. Crysis 2 and 3 were more just like CoD than anything else (and now the new CoD is copying them). Wareface fell flat, and Ryse (though I didn't play it) has been universally panned for its awfulness, and I'm now kind of glad it was only on the Xbone where originally I wanted it on PS4.

Hunt kind of looks interesting but I'm not getting my hopes up. Homefront is kinda meh. I couldn't care less about Arena of Fate. I guess this is why Crytek's in trouble these days...

News Comments > Shocker: WoW Not Going F2P
9. Re: Shocker: WoW Not Going F2P Nov 9, 2013, 14:41 Viper114

Yes, even though they lost almost 5M subs from the days of Wrath of the Lich King, WoW is is no need to try and go F2P just yet. 7.6M accounts is nothing to scoff at. But will this expansion make things work out and bring tons of subs back? Hard to say...

As much as I liked WoW, I don't think I'll be going back. Raiding just takes too much time and effort for little reward, requiring you to dedicate to it like a job. And you won't ever be able to compete in the game otherwise unless you raid, and I just can't go back to that.

News Comments > Warhammer Online Goes Free Until Closure
3. Re: Warhammer Online Goes Free Until Closure Nov 3, 2013, 12:45 Viper114

Too little too late. I loved playing WAR back when it was new, I actually enjoyed both PvE AND PvP (which is a miracle because I usually hate PvP in MMOs), but their decision to keep it Pay to Play was stupid. If they only made it F2P with microtransactions sooner, the game probably would have been better off and not doomed to die. Sad to see it go, but it's Mythic's fault for thinking it could still work like WoW does with its monthly fees.

Must be a disgruntled player who lost billions of ISK for the last time!

Seriously, why DDoS EVE of all things?

News Comments > Battle.net Authenticator Class Action Suit
28. Re: Battle.net Authenticator Class Action Suit Nov 9, 2012, 10:16 Viper114

This whole lawsuit is stupid, just like many others. It's not REQUIRED to use for the most part. And if you want to use the RMAH on D3, then get the damn FREE version for your smartphone and don't pay anything. This is just typical American greed run amuck.

News Comments > Dragon Age III Inquisition Announced
13. Re: Dragon Age III Inquisition Announced Sep 17, 2012, 12:26 Viper114

With Mass Effect 3, they found a happy medium for the gameplay that combined elements of ME1 and ME2 and made it work IMO. I'm hoping they do the same for DA3, because I loved how DA1 played, but disliked how DA2 played. A good medium combining the two earlier ones would be great.

I knew they took some extra steps to help make ARMA 2 more realistic, but this? Damn, I think they may not have stated their intentions properly...

News Comments > Black Ops 2 Specs; No XP Support

Not surprised. As much as I once loved XP, no OS lasts forever. Soon no PC game will support XP.

News Comments > Activision Blizzard Financial: WoW Subs Drop to 9.1M
10. Re: Activision Blizzard Financial: WoW Subs Drop to 9.1M Aug 2, 2012, 22:09 Viper114

And you know what? They're going to get probably 1 Million+ people back once MoP releases. This is just the natural cycle of WoW. People are bored of end-game Cataclysm and gave up, but are going to jump right back in with MoP and go through it in the same way. Then end-game MoP will be boring, many will unsub and then EXP #5 releases and they sub back in.

Circle of MMO life.

Got it, downloading it, gives me another reason to play Skyrim from the start all over again. So glad they released it.

Shame about the PS3 version though. As much as I like my PS3 and the games on it, I'm glad I did not get Skyrim for it, or I'd be majorly disappointed with...well, everything.

16. Re: Dead Space 3 Co-op & Scariness Jul 20, 2012, 13:47 Viper114

The first one was decent, and the second, while a bit more action-y, still had its moments and still was good. This...I dunno. It may be an OK action game, but the "scary" part is going to be gone.

The Witcher series is great, and I loved both 1 and 2 (even if playing 1 now feels a bit dated mechanically...). I'm eager to see what happens in 3, and hope Cyberpunk does well.

2. Re: Hard Reset Free DLC Jul 12, 2012, 00:06 Viper114

It's actually free entirely for current Hard Reset owners. I bought Hard Reset during the Christmas sale last year to get the achievement for it, and then beat it and forgot about it. But I'm going to reinstall now to try this DLC out.

News Comments > Gearbox TMs "Shift" - Has Steamy Plans?
5. Re: Gearbox TMs Jun 26, 2012, 11:03 Viper114

God, it's just like the MMO market now. Like how other MMOs think they can compete with WoW, companies are looking at Valve and seeing how successful they are and now want in on it with their own proprietary distribution service, thinking it will work like Steam. But it's not going to, and this is going to go the way of Impulse and Origin.

2. Re: Far Cry 3 Delayed Jun 25, 2012, 13:13 Viper114

Ah nuts. And here I was hoping that after a summer of BLAH for new games, I'd get the ball rolling with Far Cry 3 on September 4th. Oh well, guess I have to wait until September 18th and go for Borderlands 2.

News Comments > The Old Republic Lead Designer: "We Are Looking At Free-to-Play"
12. Re: The Old Republic Lead Designer: Jun 14, 2012, 21:47 Viper114

Yeah, I figured this would happen. Frankly, it seems the only MMO that can last with a subscription model is WoW, and no other MMO really has the ability to copy that no matter how hard they try.

Now if only they could realize this with the Warhammer MMO and just make it completely free to play...

News Comments > Dark Souls PC Port Issues
10. Re: Dark Souls PC Port Issues Jun 6, 2012, 22:43 Viper114

As much as I like how FROM decided to go ahead with popular demand and try to bring Dark Souls to the PC, I think the end result is going to be...well, not very good, to put it lightly. They're realizing it's not familiar territory to them, existing problems are still going to exist and no optimizations are going to be put in place. That adds up to one lame sounding port.

I commend them for their effort, but even I, a pretty dedicated PC player, think that Dark Souls just should have remained on the consoles. Unless they pull something out of their ass, this port is just going to fall on its face and FROM isn't going to try again ever again.

9. Re: CD Project RED's Cyberpunk RPG Announced May 30, 2012, 17:30 Viper114

As cool as this may be, it's going to take a while to make. 2014 or 2015 no doubt. No point getting too excited yet.

Did they say which platforms will be getting it? My guess is simultaneous PC and 360.

30. Re: 38 Studios Closed? May 24, 2012, 20:47 Viper114

How terrible. KoAR was actually a great game, and to see the studio behind it close down so damn soon is awful. I don't understand how someone could expect a completely brand new IP such as KoAR could sell 3 million copies just to break even.

8. Re: FilePlanet Heading Towards a Black Hole? May 3, 2012, 10:11 Viper114

Times are changing. I remember how big it was way back when, but with things like Steam and Origin and similar offering the same offers with less hassle and better service, Fileplanet's demise was inevitable.
