The more I see how these new MMO companies behave, the more credit I give to Blizzard for their original handling of these inherent MMO issues. The circumstance dictates the behavior, and Bethesda is no exception.

Warden alternative?
I highly doubt it's a MMO name. Usually the names are more descriptive of the world in which the product is set. Like World of Dildos, Lord of Anal Beads, etc.

Published by EA?
No thanks! I don't buy their product on principle. I'll just assume it never came out.

FunCom is in the same league as EA when it comes to customer service douchebaggery. It's a horrible company that I wished just didn't exist in the first place.

I disagree with what is being said in the article. Promising a fix will keep your user base happy as long as you make the fix in a timely manner (before the game reaches its half-life). EA and FunCom both got bad rep for their silence and not addressing major release flops publicly for example.

54. Re: Quoteworthy - NVIDIA: PC Dec 1, 2013, 03:49 MonkeySpank

nVidia wants a rebound girlfriend after consoles dumped it and PC is it. This topic I remember since 3DFX came out in 1996.
PC is a viable gaming system like the console but it's not for everyone. Everything else is just anecdotal flair and opinion.

Good day to you!

News Comments > John Carmack Leaves id Software
88. Re: u Nov 24, 2013, 22:17 MonkeySpank

You must be joking. Wolfenstein, Doom, Doom2, Quake..

Oh you mean the John Romero games. I am very familiar with those as I have coded several mods with QuakeC and the later DLLs and modified the released engines over the years. Quake was the last good game that actually made an impression, and coincidentally enough, it was the last game designed by Romero. Since then, it's been a lackluster from id. I am not saying Romero was great because he didn't do anything great after that, but that id; that id you are talking about, hasn't been around since 1996. That's 19 years my Videosift friend! Time to give "id" a rest. (<-- ha-ha!)

News Comments > WoW's Ninth Anniversary
10. Re: WoW's Ninth Anniversary Nov 24, 2013, 22:08 MonkeySpank

After 9 years, I still play this game occasionally. Why? Because I could never find a large-scale MMO out there that's worth a damn. Worst MMO game I played was Conan; second best to WoW was Rift. Still, if you guys have better alternatives, please let me know. I am not that loyal to the brand as I am to my curiosity.

I always felt that John made great technology for a very average game company. Imagine if John worked for Valve or Blizzard 15 years ago, the world would have been a better place.

I'm still playing BF3. I have BF4 and won't play it until they fix 3D Vision. If they don't fix it, I will stop buying the series for the first time since 1942. Not a threat, just a statement.

News Comments > New NVIDIA GeForce Drivers add ShadowPlay Beta
22. Re: New NVIDIA GeForce Drivers add ShadowPlay Beta Nov 19, 2013, 20:51 MonkeySpank

dj LiTh,
Actually no. The driver most likely uses UDMA which would transfer data directly from the H.264 encoder to a SATA device. The SATA device probably has a single-chunk file into which the UDMA writes. In other words, no CPU interrupts, no disk thrash, low overhead. Torrents use the same concept in that they allocate the maximum contiguous size ahead of time and just keep writing within their sandbox, filely speaking.

I hope this helps!

News Comments > Shocker: WoW Not Going F2P
18. Re: Shocker: WoW Not Going F2P Nov 9, 2013, 20:39 MonkeySpank

$137k is just to give you an idea. Obviously, there is development cost, salaries for over 1000 people; law suits and lawyer fees; marketing and advertising cost; depreciation; bank loan interests, and stock duties since they are publicly traded. Don't just focus on a single number and simplify it. Blizzard is no Google. They cannot afford to support F2P unless they have a financial justification.

I still play WoW a few times a week because no other MMO has come even close. I can't find a good MMO alternative. For those who are requesting F2P, you need to understand the cost of hosting 7M high bandwidth high CPU usage accounts. $137k a day is no small change, even for Blizzard.

BF4 has no support for 3D Vision, BF3 did. I bought the game, have it installed on my HD, but never played a round because of this. I wish I had known earlier, it would have saved me some bucks and the headache of trying to make it work in stereo. I'll keep playing BF3 meanwhile...
