News Comments > New Diablo III Game Director
27. Re: New Diablo III Game Director Jun 6, 2013, 07:48 deqer

Who cares what this new director has in store. This "single plaer" game is still "online only", and that means I cannot play it 10 years from now without relying on Blizzard to be in business; I'm sorry, but I don't support that kind of uncertainty. You should've kept it offline, and options for LAN. Oh well. I can live without you, and be happy knowing that I didn't lower myself to that level of buying your online-only single-player game. Bye.

<Apple> Sorry, but we don't want people saving trailers and watching them again and again on their local machines. If you want to watch trailers, you must watch them on Apple along side the ads we'll be shoving down your throat as well.

Huh?

Because you make it sound as if people are being forced at gunpoint to beta test a product in order to ensure its live release isn't a jumbled up rats nest like the early days of Half Life 2 breaking Steam or Ultima IX: Ascension.
At gunpoint? No. It's more like a "reaction" that you're a victim of. You follow through on the reaction to play (a new shiny game) without thinking twice about what you're getting into to; even if you know it's BETA; you still ignore that fact and "press on" anyways, because it's your addiction.

Wallshadows wrote on Jun 1, 2013, 22:15:
Even Blizzard relies on outside assistance in the form of their PTR system
If you can't handle making an MMO game good the first time(without the need of homework catchup, changes, fixes, etc.), then maybe you shouldn't be in the business of making MMO games.

Wallshadows wrote on Jun 1, 2013, 22:15:
so what is a company like Grinding Gear Games going to do to even have a chance at testing their product
See my comment (above), but replace "MMO" with "ARPG". If you can't handle it, then don't get into the business of doing it. It's the company's problem, not ours; so, don't make it ours.
Wallshadows wrote on Jun 1, 2013, 22:15:
when the end result is a F2P game and they work off donations?
Whether it's F2P or not, is irrevelant.

---

Fact is, you're essentially wasting your time playing BETA stuff. Even with PRODUCTION stuff; that will still be be patched/changed (again and again) regardless; without you knowing what the changes are; and even if you did know what the changes were, it's not like you had any say in it; you'd have no say in the matter because the company does what it wants, and you follow their Terms. There's always that chance your "Suggestions" will get ignored too. So, why bother. You're now a victim to a game that will have changes(whether you agree/like them or not).

Okay, so it's F2P; I didn't know that.

However, I still don't support the idea of BETAs being released and us being testers.

I also don't support the idea of "changes" -- I'd prefer games be released on cartridges that never get updated. Those were the days of solid (and tested) games, that you could become familiar with and not expect changes (changing/resetting your familiarity); such an annoyance.

It's like Microsoft "changing" windows to have no Start button. "change is good" my ass; fact is, it's just annoying. So, stop it.

<Employee> Look, no one is going to buy this shit. You ruined it, with the dumb name "Xbox One"

<Microsoft> Don't worry, we'll force them to buy/play; we';ll invest a billion dollars into forcing game developers to develop for Xbox only. Gamers will have no choice but to play on Xbox if they want to place that particular game/brand/franchise.

Have we really come to the point where we're so "low" in life that we need to charge DLC for features like "Camera: Cockpit" options?

What next? DLC for "FOV View: Yes" option?

I've hated the term "DLC" since the beginning. I hate it even more now.

We don't need new content at a quicker pace. We need content at a slower pace. Let's not cater to the hardcores/lifers and/or the corporation's greed.

Should be catered to casual(normal) people (who would like to actually like to explore the entire game world before more shit is added (because the geeks/nerds already spent their daily hours playing through it all because they have no other life to be productive in).

It is domain squatting if you sit partial trademark names without putting content up, his case doesn't look good.
Oh, I spoke too soon. It looks like it's parked because Microsoft has already won(taken it) from the guy. The guy had something up on it last year(according to web archive), but he took it down.

The trailer (on steam) does actually look pretty good, once you get half-way through the trailer and 75% through and at the end.

I am 90% sold. I'm just wondering how I would play it without of a gamepad controller of some sort; last gamepad controller (for pc) I had was 15 years ago.

Told you.

This is why you don't use Origin, because it tracks you(no matter what servers you play on), and EA feeds off of that and has the nerve to announce it's numbers to the public too.

Unless you have a $800 video card, don't bother with this.

Payday 1 runs slow on average machine, while all the other games run just fine.

lol. "Xbox One"

"<Microsoft> Why did we call it xbox 360? We want to milk this as long as possible, and release a new xbox every year; having said that, we'll run out of numbers. Xbox 720, xbox 1080; It will quickly get to a point of stupid. So, let's reset and start at ONE! Our next xbox will be "Xbox Two"! ... "

"<Microsoft> Looks like people have been using their xbox as a media center instead of buying an actually separate media player device. So, let's use that in our next marketing campaign! 'Blu-Ray player!', 'Living room entertainment!' ... "

"<Microsoft> Looks like people have been selling used games. So, let's work off of that; let's take a cut of that by forcing users to pay us a fee for each time they want to sell their used game!"

"<Microsoft> Let's control/track everyone by integrating it all into a cloud platform(that cannot be disabled). Yah!"

lulz

That's why Random Crits exists. That's why the Spy class exists(for newb players that couldn't cut it, using a normal class). That's why Ubers exists. That's why it takes 3 rockets for a soldier to kill a spy, instead of 1 rocket. That's why sticky guns exists for Demoman. etc. etc. The list goes on and on; I could list 100+ examples. But, meh.

Your statement is inherently contradictory. 'the game is so balanced its handicapped' makes no sense.

Those elements of the game you mention are not weighted towards a specific side, both sides can take advantage of them which means a winning side playing well will still do better than a losing side who isn't as skillful. The spy class has been around since the beginning and requires a lot of skill to play effectively, you should L2P before talking about things you don't understand.

I'm sorry you couldn't understand the way I explained it(handicapped mechanics), nor the examples I gave.

And you're picking on only the FEW examples I provided (out of the HUNDRED I could also provide from TF2). Random Crits is a prime example of handicap mechanics -- it "randomly" gives a player(regardless of their skill) a temporary unfair advantage. If you take away Random Crits, then you'll see a lot more "true wins" from a skilled team vs an unskilled team.

TF2 is built with many handicap mechanics which are also linked to many of it's nerfed settings, such as nerfed rocket damage and/or splash damage.

Giving the game a skillless class "Spy" (that can cloak), is another example. Sure, the other team can use "Spy" as well, but that's not he point.

Not to mention, TF2 adds more and more items(handicapped benefits) to the game. For example, now a Spy can decloak "silently" -- as if the class wasn't already handicapped enough(by having a cloak ability in the first place.)

It's cool watching victims (playing a handicapped and emo-centric game) remain as victims, after 6 years.

I guess all the smart/adult people have left(either for good, or to private/competitive servers), and therefore there is no majority of a community of smart/adults to complain enough to Valve to have things changed for pub servers.
