Great so instead of being "just a number with insurance" you're now "just a QR code with insurance". And now your doctor looks like a Borg.

Wow Microshaft is getting really desperate to push sales on that turd Win8.
Wonder how long before they will cut off support on Win7, probably a lot sooner than XP was.

Meh, Windows 8 isn't all that bad. If they'd just suck it up and put the frakking start menu back into the desktop side and let all of us who don't have touchscreens ignore the Metro side it would be a worth the upgrade. But this whole, "we're changing things just to change them" thing is getting old. You don't have that much power anymore Microsoft, time to knuckle under.

Re: No new Windows 7 PCs after October

Wonder why Win 7 Pro was not included in this deadline? Computer

Because businesses give Microsoft an enormous amount of money and tend to standardize around a particular OS. They don't upgrade to the latest and greatest every cycle. MS had a bitch of a time getting them off of XP. Most have moved to Win 7 and MS is going to have to come up with some good ROI reasons for them to move on from that so soon.

As being said here, they are just confusing shit that already had names with the wondrous name "Cloud". The brilliant designers that have Company Run Dedicated Servers (CeRDS's why not) are still doing the same things but the platform has been rebranded to the user friendly name "Cloud". Titanfall is using the power of the server to manage the online parts a secured game needs, like any other game using dedicated servers, like all mmo's. So there is power that the cloud is doing, it is, but it's nothing new at all. But they word it like they are giving you something new, it's just PR hype, you've been had by a PR dept. Don't worry you are not the first.

I have to sit through our CIO wowing crowds with Cloud talk, which I know underneath all that is the same old servers, with some old and new apps being served to the users. That serving is now called "Cloud", ohhhh. It is still servers and clients, how much you use of each is always variable.

Hence "cloud" being in quotes in my first comment.

I just want to believe people are smarter then being lured by a Monkey Pet.

So this beta has no new content like the last didn't? If so, am I reading this right? Perhaps due to low turnout last time they weren't able to stress the system as much as they wanted. So this time they are asking us nicely to help stress and giving us a Monkey?

The monkey is for anyone who has played in the beta at all. So anyone who was "invited", which at this point is pretty much anyone who bothered to fill out their beta form, and all the brain damaged folks that pre-ordered the game.

I've got to say this is among the most boring MMO's I have ever tried to play. It's slow, the leveling is a grindfest and it's got the same kind of cookie cutter quests as every other MMO out there. It's made worse by the fact that no one at Bethesda has heard of "instancing" so that everyone on the same quest as you are all very visibly doing the same shit you are. Just wandering around the continent is more fun than actually playing the game or progressing.

I can't believe they actually intend to charge a monthly fee for this.

errr... Azure was around quite awhile before the Xbone showed up, and it's making Microsoft shitloads of money.

If you already have a perfectly valid cloud environment (at least until your moron administrators forget to renew the certificates again), why not link your Xbox environment to it? That just makes sense.

So, no, they didn't "build a cloud" for Xbone.

At the same time, all the shit that Microsoft pretends the cloud can do is just that: Shit. Horseshit to be more precise.

I should have phrased that "Microsoft built the XBone to use the cloud without giving any real thought to what it would be used for." I'm well aware that Azure is used for business purposes. A few months ago we pushed our mail server to Azure.

I am sure some brilliant game designer somewhere is going to come up with an idea that will absolutely require a cloud and use it to it's fullest extent but to shoehorn something trivial into a package and then go "It's essential to the experience" when you know that's bullshit and you did it just to keep Microsoft off your back is just stupid. It doesn't do anyone any favors.

I'm not seeing a huge bounce in console sales...

What about a trendline over the past month, or since the beta? I would think people would have stocked up early if they were anticipating playing this.

Not if they were waiting for the bundle to get Titanfall for "free". That is where the mythical "bounce" is supposed to come from.

Apparently it's as online only as SimCity was. Because, you know, you could never possibly run SimCity without being connected to the internet. I can only assume the AI in Titanfall is such a massive leap up from what we're used to that mere gaming PCs cannot possibly handle all the computations.

It seems like they built a "cloud" for the XBone without ever giving any real thought as to what it would be used for. And then when game developers looked and went, "Yeah, we don't really need that" Microsoft said, "Nope. We built it already so you need to use it for something!"

EA is already talking up how the Titanfall sequel probably won't be an Xbox One exclusive because they thought Microsoft was just going to stomp Sony in the Next Gen beauty pageant and that didn't happen. So that right there tells you how "absolutely essential" the cloud is to the game.

Is there a compelling reason to upgrade if you already have a PS3 and/or 360? Looks like a lot of the big titles that are releasing on the xbone and ps4 are also releasing on the last gen, and not looking that much different. I got a PS4, but the last console I owned was a PS1, so I don't really have a perspective if there's a good reason to upgrade right now.

A) It's not upgrading, it's buying a new system. They are different concepts.

B) The new generation is only a few months old. It's normal for the new games on a new system to look remarkably like the later games on the last gen system. Go and compare the PS4 games to the PS3 stuff that was shipping in 2006 and tell me they don't look much different.

There is always little reason to buy a new console right out of the gate unless you've got nothing better to spend money on. Most of the games are extremely derivative of the previous generation with the majority shipping on those previous gen systems as well. It's never worth it until something ships that you feel you must play and can't get any other way. Even Titanfall won't be to total windfall that Microsoft is hoping for it to be for the XBox One since it's shipping for PC and the 360.

It always baffles me when a $60 single player title ends up topping the top 10 on Steam. The people who pay that kind of money for those titles are always the same people bitching in the forums a couple weeks later when the same game is on sale for half or more off.

Im not sure most would know the difference unless someone pointed it out to them. For that matter Im not sure most PS4 owners would know the difference either.

Unless you had the PS4 version and the XBox One version side by side on some large ass TVs that you were sitting unnaturally close to you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Like, not at all. Most folks have a problem telling 720p from 1080p on normal size televisions at living room distances, and that's a huge difference. But 180 extra lines of resolution? You'd legitimately need to have your nose against the screen to spot that.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go back to gaming at "4K" on my PC.

You are right, from a couch viewing distance 720P on a 42" screen is fine for many things. But that isn't ultimately the point that is being said here. It's that this is the console for the next 7 years and this is already struggling with things that we would have just thought was a no-brainer given.

For the master race, they did the one thing right they had to 8 gig's o ram, that was the part that affects me.

I kind of have the feeling that if enough people were to invest in 4K TVs over the next 3 years or so this would be a 5 year console generation at best. Remember the only real reason the last generation lasted so long is because Microsoft and Sony spent buttloads (I believe that's the technical term) of money on developing them and really wanted the generation to be as long as possible to maximize their returns. This time around they both went the route of basically building a midrange PC with a few specialized parts. It hasn't cost them anywhere near as much and both are breaking even on the hardware right out of the gate.

So I wouldn't be at all shocked to see these consoles both get deep price cuts over the next 3 years or so (it is commodity hardware, after all) and then start hearing inklings of a new generation by four years out that would basically be just an upgraded PC, thereby giving backwards compatibility with this gen and providing newer games for all the 4K TVs. It's just going to depend on consumer demand.

Games generally look better going forward through a consoles lifespan as things get optimized, for some reason a lot of people think the xb1 is gonna do the opposite.

Games also run up against resource limitations more as devs leverage the hardware which results in tradeoffs like what I already mentioned.

Unless you had the PS4 version and the XBox One version side by side on some large ass TVs that you were sitting unnaturally close to you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Like, not at all

Depends on the game really and what else was scaled down, its way too subjective to generalize. I can certainly tell the difference between AC4 on my PS4 and my buddys Xbox One. People who only have one console probably don't care either way but then again the internet is filled with comparisons so who knows *shrug*.

If you have an XBox One and a PS4 how often are you out there buying the same game for them though? Do the extra lines of resolution impact your enjoyment of the game in any way? If you owned an XBone and never saw the PS4 version of a game would you feel cheated in any way?

I have a PC capable of playing pretty much anything at some pretty insane resolutions. I also own a PS3. I own a small number of games on both platforms thanks to Steam sales and, as you might expect, the PC beats the PS3 in graphical fidelity hands down. But when I'm playing those games on the PS3 I'm not sitting around going, "Screw this 720p bullshit! 4K is sooooo much better! It makes the game soooo much more enjoyable!"

Absent the ability to directly compare two versions, it's not even an issue. That was my point.

So, so, so wrong.

While I agree that it is wrong in that it goes against the way the internet is supposed to work I don't see a solid out for Netflix against bigger ISPs. Their customers can't go somewhere else because there isn't any real competition in the market in 99% of the US so their only options are pay the extortion so the ISPs in question will stop clogging their ports or sit on their thumbs and whine about how they're being mistreated. They've obviously chosen the former.
