It's an interesting studio to do a Star Wars title. There's some other stuff that happens there, but EAC in Burnaby is mostly centered around sports titles (among things, FIFA and NHL are made there), and was the home of the late Black Box (Need For Speed, Skate)

Totally enjoying Blackflag. Never played or seen a AC game before this one (I'm a big Pirates! fan form back in the amiga days).

Been singing sea shanty while in the shower!

Singing Sally Brown is the one ....
How is the ship stuff? What's the balance of ship stuff to not ship stuff? I have played the other ACs, and the melee combat looks pretty much the same as the others, so it's the ships I'm interested in.

That's the greatest thing I've ever read in a looong time, you guys just paid for an open source box
PS4 isn't an open game console just because it uses a kernel derived from FreeBSD. The BSD license lets you close your derivative software down as much as you like.

Locking the fps of a PC version makes absolutely no sense to me.
They set up the engine with the assumption of a fixed time per frame because they targeted consoles first. That's not rare for console games, but it's pretty bizzare in a PC port.

Everything playing at a solid 60Hz is probably my favorite part of playing multiplatform titles on the PC, never mind the increased resolution and everything else. :\

Haven't noticed anything on my build, but I've only been running it for a day or so.

It'll get better. One thing I did notice is that the update decided to downgrade my video drivers. I noticed that nVidia 3d decided to turn itself on, went to turn it off and upon further investigation found that 320.xx drivers were installed vs. my previous 331.40 betas.
I didn't check the driver version, but 3D kicked itself on for me too. Weird. That's the only issue I had with 8.1, and I didn't even realize it was tied to 8.1 until now.

filing false DMCA's is illegal.

I don't think that's possible. If I recall correctly, the DMCA was written so that it wasn't possible to be punished if you misused it. Was to allow big companies to use bots to scan and demand things removed, and if they demanded the wrong thing, oh well.
The takedown notice is made under penalty of perjury: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/512
(vi) A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

But of course you need a prosecutor to actually charge someone of perjury. I don't know if it's ever been attempted, and there might be some weasely lawery way out of it I don't know about.

19. Re: NVIDIA Oct 21, 2013, 19:49 Crustacean Soup

The most recent Beta driver (the one that was recommended for the BF4 beta) seems okay to me, so I'll give this a go. For me, the drivers between that and 314.22 caused Windows (8) to lock up, or enter inescapable driver reset loops. Also only when on the desktop, not in games.

Hopefully TB had the infringement strike by Youtube rescinded as it clearly was unwarranted. Maybe this will help fix the broken system over there.
It won't. There are inappropriate DMCA takedowns all the time, several that are moderately high profile. I don't know that anyone has successfully pressed charges of perjury because of a false DMCA claim yet.

Youtube's ass is only covered if they respond to takedown notices:
(1) In general.— A service provider shall not be liable for monetary relief, ... if the service provider—
...
(C) upon notification of claimed infringement as described in paragraph (3), responds expeditiously to remove, or disable access to, the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity.

I don't normally go for exploration "games" that don't actually have anything in the way of gameplay, but this was just extremely well-executed.

I'd love to get this, but is there much replay value?
Once you've found all the narrative branches (some are sneaky,) there's nothing really left to do. I'd treat it like a movie or a book purchase.

Having not played either, is there any reason it'd be a PBEM game instead of a GMR game?

Either way, I'd be in for it. I haven't done any multiplayer in 5.

So yeah, I don't know if Blue's covered this yet, but we've also got Chivalry: Deadliest Warrior available for pre-order and early-access beta right now.

We've also just released the Release Candidate for Medieval Warfare's SDK. Thursday was a big day

Are there still OEMs installing 32-bit Windows on machines with 64-bit CPUs? I know we have some 32-bit users, and I don't know of any 32-bit CPUs that would run our game halfway acceptably.

I had the audio thing on save load. Appears that it just plays the last audio log you've picked up. Not really an inconvenience to me all in all.

I thought that was intentional. Generally nothing happens immediately after you load, so filling the time with Keith David seems like a good thing.

I did have a small handful of crashes and infinite loading screens, but that's about it. I had a handful of crashes and infinite loading screens in SR3 as well.

Firefall isn't a WOW-type game in any way. There's no auto-attack. It's a f2p first/third-person shooter. The PvP resembles something like TF2, in self-contained instanced matches. The PvE takes place in a largish, free-roaming multiplayer world (Planetside is a closer comparison for the PvE world)

imo all those effects can be done in software without needing special hardware.
Sure, it just can't be done anywhere near as quickly. Engines are starting to get their own GPU particle/physics implementations though (e.g. the previously mentioned Assassin's Creed 4; UE4), and Bullet's next major version has GPU acceleration.

Once you've heard a few toolbags like the MS Shamwow guy (Look how far I have my tongue up Microsoft's ass! That's deep! AND NO LEAKAGE! AMAZING!) it's easy to just assume that every dev is a publisher-cock sucking whore and to just treat them as the enemy.
You don't really like a guy, so someone treating him and other game developers as something less than human is kinda understandable? I don't get it.

Edit: And now I realize you linked to that already. I'll just use the excuse that I'm sick and go back to playing Blood Dragon.

RE: Papers, Please:

It's an absolutely intriguing game. I'd just watch the video trailer on the Steam store page; reading any review is probably just going to spoil far too much of it.
