I've been reading a lot of similar comments. I played it on GTX460, and actually tried to force vsync OFF via nvidia settings, so that the menu / inventory mouse wouldn't lag so much. Didn't help, but I in return I got some tearing. But by using the 3D application settings, there was zero tearing, as if the game had a forced vsync on all the time. |

Anyways, I've had a zero problems with Rage. On my 2500k box it runs a solid 60fps @2560x1600 on a measly GTX460 1GB. Only thing I hate about the engine is its streaming nature. Despite utilizing almost all my vram, it still grinds my HDD all the time when moving forward. Even if I take just one step forward on a cramped interior like the Subway Town, it trashes my hdd.
Where does it even need vram, if it streams everything straight off the disk? Did you create the cache folder? You know, the one that Carmack's brilliant installer FORGOT to install?
Creston Actually, yes I did. I usually tend to check forums for any useful tweaks before I start playing a new game.
My launch options are currently +cvaradd g_fov 20 +com_allowconsole 1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +fc_maxcachememoryMB 1024. But besides that, there's a shit ton of tweaks people are adding into their rageConfig.cfg. I tried some of them and my game practically stalled below 1fps. I've got 8GB of ram. Go figure... |

What pisses me off about xlive nowadays, is that the API used to be relatively unintrusive. You loaded the game, and GfWL was integrated into the game client. You could set it up to use the offline mode and even so, that the front-end never popped up. Basically you were blisfully oblivious of GfWL's existence.
After MS forked it into Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant service, you now need to have it running at all times in order to play a GfWL title. The service in turn spawns WLIDSVC.EXE and WLIDSVCM.EXE. Not cool Microsoft, not cool...

Verno wrote on Sep 26, 2011, 11:39: Thankfully GFWL is easily removed, I don't want to miss this game due to Microsoft's abortion of a client. I'm curious... how exactly does one "remove" GfWL? XLiveLess only supports a handful of games, and besides special loaders like FOSE/NVSE, I'm unaware of any other methods of removing xlive loading upon the game.
Yes, I'm aware of how to uninstall software from my system, but removing xlive effectively breaks all these games, unless you specifically have a way to bypass it. Even most scene releases of GfWL titles I know still require xlive offline mode to work.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. |

space captain wrote on Sep 22, 2011, 21:14: first game i ever had to disable vsync to get the mouse response time fixed up Well then I guess you never played Deus Ex. Not only did it suffer a severe mouse acceleration that you could get rid of by enabling DirectInput in the advanced options which effectively disabled mouse in menus and the inventory screen, but on top of that it had a horrid mouse lag caused by forced VSync which can only be disabled via driver setting.
A lot of this was mostly the reason why people back then called the controls and gunplay "clumsy". All of this can be nowadays dealt with by using Deus Exe... except the mouse lag; you still need to disable VSync to make it feel responsive.
In fact, I would say VSync is the cause of lag in most games, which is why I rarely enable it. FNV is a good example. Horrid mouse lag, unless you force v-syn off via drivers. I find it kinda hard to believe DX:HR would be the "first game ever". |

Battlefield always was about runnin & gunnin. But due to the size of maps, you usually do a bit more running than in CoD... OR you just jump into a Humvee or even M1. However, the basis of BF was always in acradadish fun and teamplay. Also, there's already quite a bit of material from E3 and the alpha when it comes to multi. And did everyone just suddenly forget the Caspian Border trailer? All PC, all multi?
Besides that, they've shown the coop and now the Guillotine gameplay. They need to showcase a campaign in order to attract a certain percentage of the gamers.
By the end of sept, 29th most likely (27th for Origin pre-orders) we'll get an open beta, which will either sell the game for us or it won't. At any rate I'm already sold on the alpha.
It's not Battlefield 2: The Frostbite 2.0 Edition. It's Battlefield 3. If reskinned BF2 after six years is all people want, then wtf? There's always BF2 to play, or even Project Reality. |

Setting up/Loading/Firing Mortar Climbing Wall where it is scripted to do so Kicking in the door [OMG HIT B NOW] Falling back in slow-mo to shoot the guy on the other side of the next door. Randomly running away from the car at the end to avoid being killed with your teammates when it explodes.
There were only a couple sections in that trailer where you actually aimed and shot at something.
I want to love this game.. But it seems to just fall in line with all the other "interactive movie" bullshit "games" that have been released lately. What happened to giving me a gun and letting me decide how best to kill all the enemies? You do understand, that the SP campaign is just a filler; to get a feel for the game before going online? I suspect over half the people buying this game, especilly on PC won't ever touch the SP, let alone complete it. I only played the first mission on BC2 and never went back, and I've raked over 250h online. |

Everything about Witcher 2 felt like it was a multiplat release, and a console game from the ground up. Even many PC gamers admit it plays best with a controller.
I wouldn't go that far but I would say that it was definitely built with multi-platform release in mind. I don't really see what's wrong with that though. Also the generalities about the PC community get tiring, there isn't a big meeting where we all get together and frame our decisions. I don't think there is anything wrong with multi-platform development, quite the opposite I think it's good for the industry as a whole. I just realize that multi-platform development is usually code for "release shitty PC version and charge full price".
That doesn't appear to be the case here and it wasn't the case with The Witcher 2 either. Did it have problems? For sure. Was it still an outstanding PC game? Absolutely, the PC version is by far the best to get. You're absolutely right on the money. Despite everything I mentioned it was a great game and I mostly enjoyed it very much.
It's just that I've been reading Blues about ten years now. I used to comment here a lot, but grew tired around 2005-2006 over the general sentiment of jaded whining. Nowadays I just browse and check out the latest news. Sometimes I read comments and just shake my head in disbelief thinking, how can anyone who so thoroughly hates what his hobby has become, waste so much time and energy ranting about it. Just fucking move on!
And yea, I regged again just to vent this... |

It's excruciatingly ironic how people here use Witcher 2 as a recent example of a real PC RPG. And that just goes to show the hypocrisy of PC gaming community in general. Had the 360 verison of Witcher 2 been released parallel to PC, each and everyone of you would've jumped the gun and railed all over the 'consolitis' of Witcher 2.
Witcher 2 has been ground-up designed to run and be played on the consoles and a controller. It has a static OTS 3rd person camera that cannot be zoomed or switched to another angle in any way. It won't let you customize keyboard hotkeys via ingame menu, and the launch build didn't even support invert mouse. It also wouldn't launch in fullscreen if you were running a native 2560x1600 desktop resolution nor does it support (even today after two patches) 16:10 AR but renders such resolution in a letterboxed format. Besides Assassin's Creed and Mirror's Edge, I cannot recall a recent game that had such a rediculous impairment.
Everything about Witcher 2 felt like it was a multiplat release, and a console game from the ground up. Even many PC gamers admit it plays best with a controller. |
