Taskeen wrote on Feb 21, 2013, 17:41: Deus Ex to me was never "Cyber Punk," it is a somewhat realistic view of the future of Humanity in the context of our times. The context of Cyberpunk has always been just that. A scifi more rooted to modern day societies; a future world not so far away that paints a picture which already carries an eerily close resemblance to these strange days we live in. The first cyberpunk novels and the the tabletop RPG depicted a world where the nation state has become irrelevant, and huge multinational corporations run amok without any regard for the rule of law. That's pretty much the world we live in right now. Nation states are being held hostage by too big to fail banks, that can pretty much do ANYTHING they please without facing any consequences.
As far as Deus Ex goes, it was so ahead of its time back in the day, it's crazy when you think about it. Not talking about the gameplay elements here. I think everyone here can appreciate that side. I'm talking about the setting and the plotline. All those conspiracy theories that were introduced within the game, only started to go mainstream after 9/11 and the advent of fast broadband truly hitting everyday household. |

That is great and all for older titles and console games but not so much for modern PC games. Most games lately are tied in to storefront/drm/middleware like steam. So? So what? Your point? Just don't play them then. What? Is this some type of crack that we can't live without? So, are you saying that once micro-transactions hit games, that we should play those games too because that's what's modern and we have no other choice?
Each time you play modern games, you are supporting a bad business model; you are being taken advantage of by the companies; and yet you don't think twice about it. You just eat it up?
Godddd, humans are dumb. How about if I just like video games? It's a hobby of mine. Albeit only one of the many, yet certainly the dearest hobbby I have. Been playing since I was 2. I'm 32 now. How is it exactly that I'm being taken advantage of? I only see Steam as an advantage, not an impediment in any way for me to enjoy the games I love to play.
Btw, if this suit actually holds water and this case becomes a precedent, how is it going to bode down to the fact that we all know the next generation consoles will most likely feature a some form of a DRM system that more or less makes reselling of video games a thing in the past? |

Either way can't wait for anything these guys make. I can deffinitely attest to the attraction of multiple enclosed instances, rather than a single huge chunk of a world. Too often the "entirely open" gameworlds tend to be somewhat of a reprise through and through. When the dev actually splits the world into different smaller segments, each area becomes a lot more visually and thematically distinctive of eachother.
Having said that, CDPR is now in a position where I would be willing to throw my moneys at them without even knowing what that money will go to. They have convinced me that they truly care. Something that cannot be said about 90% of devs today. |

If it's not DX11, it sure does a great impression of it What? Technically speaking that looks like utter shit! Now, having said that, I don't really care as I'm sucker for anything related to Aliens. I just think that even NS2 manages to top this thing visually. Still, my only fear is, that this game will be 10h SP with rince & repeat coop and a multi that no one will be playing two months after release.
If that's the case, it is indeed a bargain bin release for me. |

Yep, nowadays the service and its three spawning executives are tied to the control panel. You can still disable the service though, and use nvidiaInspector to replace the control panel.
Obviously you can't adjust any multi-monitor, color etc. setting, but all D3D related stuff is directly accessible. And you can tweak a myriad of more things via the setup panel of Inspector, than you ever could via nvidia's control panel. |

| I just recently upgraded my old 80GB Intel G2 to 256GB 830. My first thought was to wait for 840, but 830 has been proven to be the most reliable drive in the market right now, and 840 is not THAT much faster to justify the price. Furthermore, jumping in blindly to a new SSD no matter how well received the manufacturer's past drives are is not very smart, unless you fully recognize the risks of being an early adopter. |

So I care less about FC3. No, it wasn't. Yes, it was. The controls were floaty and terrible. I installed and uninstalled in a matter of minutes after playing it. However, I am looking forward to FC3. It was just a bad DX10 implementation. On DX9 the controls were smooth and totally responsive.
Doesn't take away the fact that it's a shit game... |

jacobvandy wrote on Mar 30, 2012, 03:27: C'mon Blue, no mention of the pay-to-win DLC? They're now selling "shortcuts" that will unlock all the items for you @ $7 per class or category of vehicles. The package deal, which unlocks everything in the entire game instantly, costs $40. Hardly pay-to-win. It's there to incentivise new players to stand a chance against folks who've clocked 300+ hours on the game. Especially the vehicle unlocks can be difficult to achieve if you start playing now. And after this patch, you can pretty much forget about tanks unless you sport a Reactive Armor from get-go. They also did it with BC2, so nothing new under the sun.
And as far as I'm concerned, I'm done with this game. This patch proved once again, that all DICE is capable of is nerfing, more nerfing, and breaking balance and gameplay mechanics. |

bhcompy wrote on Mar 26, 2012, 10:20: Meh, not really concerned. PC gamer through and through, but GTA is the type of game that's better on a console. So you'd rather play games at 600-720p than 1200-1600p? You'd rather not have anti-aliasing, high resolution textures or modding capabilities? You'd rather have longer load times, be forced to use a controller and have to put the disk in each time? So much for you being a PC gamer through and through". Don't forget the completely lackluster performance. GTAIV on consoles chokes severely in high-action scenes, dipping the framerate down to 20's.
At launch, I was able to play with my E8500@3.8GHz and GTX260 @1920x1200 on high-very high settings, staying around 35-40FPS outside. |
