News Comments > Thief E3 Presentation
29. Re: Thief E3 Presentation Jun 14, 2013, 20:38 dumpy

There is a Gamespot interview/gameplay video as well that states THIS IS NOT A PREQUEL OR SEQUEL BUT AN ENTIRE REIMAGINING of the "franchise".

The video in the topic description doesn't really give a good impression, but I searched youtube for another and found a IGN video from E3 2013 showcasing gameplay, and it looked much better.

They do state that the game is still a work in progress, so the ugly UI and guard models (what the hell is wrong with their eyes?) will hopefully be fixed. The IGN video also clarifies what features can be turned off, which shows promise.

That the drop-knockout animations from a single button press is pretty lame, and it is MUCH too bright from Garret's perspective.

Apprehensively keeping an eye out.

I expect they will release this as a DLC or as a patch to people who already own the game - much like how the enhanced Witcher games have been released. Would seem like pretty bad PR to do otherwise. Does anyone know of any official statements concerning this?

I expect they will market it as new and improved, with a moderate to high retail price? I have already paid (in more than one way) for the original and was very disappointed. If I were to find it in the bargain bin I would give it a chance, but that's not going to happen is it? No thanks.

Changing the voice of an iconic character is a dangerous step to make for a developer, but I'm sure the changes made to the lore, gameplay, and style, and not to mention these awesome CGI trailers, will bring in enough new gamers to offset the loss of fans.

Sarcasm aside, it is a bit early to write this game off. But I do encourage fans to let their voices be heard.

News Comments > Metro: Last Light HUD "Fix" Inbound

I'm playing through at the moment, and it's great fun. I have noticed a couple of graphical glitches, but nothing game breaking. I tend to dislike tight FOV as it makes me uneasy, but the use in this case aids the development of a very immersive atmosphere. The development team have done an amazing job, on my 7 year old computer, it runs on near optimal settings flawlessly. I get the impression that some people feel they were entitled to adjustable FOV? A shame that something so trivial has so much sway.

Zing!

2004 called, they want their graphics back.

Now that Microsoft have started the ball rolling on the release of the next Xbox, we can expect Sony to follow (in the interests of hardware superiority). I would prefer this to release on PS3, as I intend to buy one once I find a good deal.

For those that don't know, GFWL died a while ago, they no longer update it.

I always thought Garret was a cool character, and the new look is definitely Desmondised.

You can only be cool if you're not trying to be cool, but people think you're cool anyway. So stop trying Eidos! Didn't you learn this at school?

I feel they plan to capitalise on the market that praised Dishonored, which I thought had stealth gameplay poorly implemented. The qualities that made the previous Thief games unique, I suspect, are exactly what the developers fear will restrict sales.

Always good to see originality in game marketing, well done Paradox. In today's gaming market with the rise in independent development, consumers are increasingly discerning, especially as to 'who' deserves their money.

I reckon this will definitely have a positive effect on sales. My only criticism is the baritone voice needed more bass!

Ship just got real.

This game brings up the nostalgia of Dungeon Siege but with a greater emphasis on story and role-playing. Larian have done well over the past couple of years, and their talents are definitely clear for all to see through Original Sin. I hope they're able to expand onto further projects outside of the Divinity universe following the release.

News Comments > Skyrim Development Ends; Bethesda on to "Next Adventure"
46. Re: Skyrim Development Ends; Bethesda on to Apr 15, 2013, 17:58 dumpy

I have only just completed Fallout New Vegas for the first time, and have since reinstalled Fallout 3 along with mods for another playthrough. It is immediately clear to me just how much of an improvement FNV was, albeit a completely different game.

I have to say however, how disappointing the Skyrim DLC was, with Dragonborn being the only substantial effort from Bethesda, while the other two are more comparable to horse armour DLC.

Focusing on an Elder Scrolls MMO, I expect they won't begin work on another game for a long while, if at all. At the rate Bethesda is pumping out games these days, while high quality, I'm concerned they have abandoned individuality in an attempt to rub shoulders with the likes of EA, Activision and Blizzard.

To throw more fuel to the flames, don't forget they also released a trailer for the trailer!

I can't be the only person who finds this practice irritating.

I don't like the voice acting or the character model of Garret, he sounds and looks much too young which brings into question the characters guile and wisdom. Also, the lifestyle and living conditions required of characters in this time and age would have an impact of their appearance - my point being that Garret looks much too kempt/handsome.

I uninstalled BF3 a while ago for a few reasons such as Origin, EA support, and cheating. I haven't really kept up with the addons, have any actually been worth it?

Correct me if I am wrong, but before the game was available for sale and pre-purchase didn't EA and Maxis make clear the requirements, DRM, constant connection, and etcetera? Not to mention the reputation of EA, which should well have been a clear indicator of what to expect. I'm just interested that so many people are angry, when information was readily available right at their fingertips allowing them to make an informed purchase. Two examples of publishing choices that have affected me due to similar reasons, but completely differently are Anno 2070 and Diablo 3, of which the latter I no longer play for various reasons including the constant internet connection requirement (which I was aware of before buying).

A good effort, if a little expensive. I would much prefer a HD update for the original, as I never really found II very immersive. The voice acting was horrible too.

I bought this when it came out, it was fun for the time that I played it, though I found the skills got pretty boring (darts darts darts!). I uninstalled it a long time ago and haven't played it since.

Diablo 2 LoD was never removed from my computer, and I always wanted to jump in and play. Pretty large contrast.

I'm glad I didn't buy it, but I am curious how many people here commenting have actually played it?

I've only been duped a couple of times from production companies because I got caught up in the hype. It's a good lesson I suppose.

Regarding outsourcing - I remember Deus Ex: HR outsourced the boss fights (correct me if I'm wrong), which were very out of place in the game. I assume it was due to bad communication.

I find it hard to believe there will be a market for this, considering a Half-Life 2 mod called NeoTokyo had an unfortunately short lifespan.
