Also EVE is already essentially free to play once you've got some income. You can buy game-time with in-game currency!

I've played for several years and never had enough money for that.
As for being able to be effective quickly, I call bullshit on that. Unless the game dramatically changed since I played. Back when I played, you had to train for months before you could do anything productive at all. And if you did something well, it was that ONLY thing, nothing else. And you had to focus only on that or else you were severly gimping yourself. Got boring quick.

Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.
In my case I was moving all my stuff from one base to another due to relocating for agent missions. I have my blueprints for ammo, drones etc so I am not so dependent on the market in the region I am working out of.
I was careless and going through a sector that was 0.4 security and sure enough I was ambushed at the gate.
I wasn't mad about it rather amazed by how organized and high tech the pirates were, and also thankful they let me get away in my pod. They only wanted to blow up my ship I guess.
It is a fun game for sure and the "death" penalty can be pretty devastating if you aren't careful.
All the dull time in the game makes the combat the more emotional and exciting.

First time I went in low sec, I got blown up by two guys waaaay over my head. Then they podded me and I lost all my implants also :p. Almost stopped playing there.

I've been intrigued by this game for years, but I've always been put off by the "griefing" issue and the seeming complexity of the game. Complexity isn't of itself bad, but jumping into a complex game that's been around for years as a total noob, doesn't have much appeal.

You bet your ass there's griefing. It's encouraged. In low security space, everyone you meet should be expected to want to kill you. You WILL lose your hard earned ships. The idea is to never fly what you can't fully replace. Also, all the long time players have a major advantage over others. Skills raise with time and there are so many that there's not really a limit.

Wow. let me balance things here.

Eve is an amazingly complex game and there's definitely no other like it. You can really get lost into this "other world".

With that said, to offset all the positive comments in the thread, the game is boring. Extremely boring.

A lot of people are going to find it boring, but they're not striving for mass appeal. They're serving a very specific niche and have stuck to that philosophy for over a decade. That's something to be admired in an industry where just about every publisher seems to eventually succumb to the temptation to dumb things down to increase sales.

Definitely. I'm glad it exists. It just pisses me off that it's so close to greatness, but made all these decisions I don't agree with. If I ever become super depressive or if my life becomes unbearably terrible, I'll probably get lost in EVE and play 24/7 :p

It's kind of funny you mentioned that, because as someone who as played on and off since beta, I too have noticed it's a game I'm drawn to when I'm feeling down and depressed. When my wife got breast cancer eight years ago, I used to get lost in that game well into the night after she'd gone to sleep (She battled it and won, btw).

For more minor depressions, like when your gf leaves you, I highly recommend Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. You can definitely get lost in it for a good amount of hours, and it's actually a lot of fun :p

I loved Skyrim and finished 70% of the content or so. Finished main quest, mages guild, dark brotherhood, and companions. The game got incredibly boring though when you were so powerful you could tear every enemy up in two seconds on hardest difficulty, so didn't get around to finishing imperials vs locals or the thieves guild. Does Dragonborn make the game any more challenging?

M O D S

Actually, once you become too powerful, it's usually because you raised your main skills to 100. STOP. Use a completely different set of skills. Difficulty dramatically raised, progression restarted and you keep levelling up, making your character even more powerful if you switch back to your main skills.

That's what I did. I'm a light armor archer first. Then I maxed heavy armor and dual handed. Now I'm doing blocking and destruction. Kinda makes starting a new character useless though.

Being a Quebecker, I'm not surprised in the least. They spend time and money on the most assinine things. Now that cancer and the energy crysis are solved, let's ban media depicting public places. It's not like the fucking metro system is perfect.

The ultimate co-op experience. Really? Come on.

They should have put something like, "trying not to make a shitty game". That would have been a much more realistic goal.

It looks like a great game. Perhaps even as good as the Iron Man games.

Shogo was great for the time. It wasn't a mech game. It was a first person shooter where you fought on foot, but also in a mech. Being in the mech just meant that you were much taller and had different weapons. The graphics today are so bad that I'd say it's unplayable.

Blood 2 got bad reviews, was unplayable because of bad performance at the time and was mostly hated by the fans. It's very different from the first game, but after a couple of years, I replayed it and it's a fun game with some unique ideas. Contrary to Shogo, it still holds up graphically and is definitely playable.

The first Blood is a marvel. Everything is done right. Levels, physics, weapons, humor, story, characters, atmosphere, blood effects, difficulty, online modes, full campaign coop, lots of content, simple/powerful map editor and the gameplay in general. It still looks good today, granted, it's not real 3D. It's kinda like a cartoon that always looks good regardless of its age. To this day, it's the most furious and hilarious deathmatch out there.

I didnt have that much fun since Titan Quest + Immortal Throne ! And that says a lot.
Finally the maze-like passive skill tree is not so impressive after getting used to it, and the active skill build was IMHO more interesting in TQ/IT. Here the gem system sounds like a good idea but is quickly limited, and the skills lack the huge variety that was found in TQ. Otherwise the game is pretty well executed now, grim, intense, very dark in mood (especially the last act !), and musics are top notch (again, act 3 really shines).
There is an obvious missing act 4 i guess (and it goes a lot like TQ here, on many aspects), this will hopefully come later.
That last patch brought a bit more shine and IMHO it's already quite superior to Diablo 3, or otherwise put it's what D3 should have been.

Diablo 3 still does the killing waaay better. In PoE, it's kinda disconnected and bland.
I agree about the gems, not enough variety and the skills are kinda bland also.
With patches like this, it makes me hopeful that they'll fix these issues.

I played the game back when it got released. I gave up soon after the first few monkey men. The controls were pretty bad, the graphics were meh and it felt kinda broken. Same thing happened with Deus Ex. I loved Human Revolution though. I didn't like Bioshock.

I don't like Telltale. I paid for all the walking dead episodes, but I can't play them. It won't continue past episode 2 with my choices! Tons of people have savegame corruption and they do nothing to fix it. I went through the forums and there's no fix for my problem. This is inexcusable. I can't even login to their forums! I log in, it works, but when I post, it says I can't, because I'm not logged in. Nothing works... And of course I never got an answer for my support ticket.

It's something that happens everytime? I know it's an annoying proposition but why not just uninstall the game, delete your saves, and start over?

Hells no. There's no way to skip anything in this game. It would take hours. Why would I want to waste my time like that? It's not like my mind was blown from the first two episodes... They were... OK.

Well considering there's a bunch of choices to make you could at least experience a slightly different play through. You've only played 2 episodes, and you won't have to re-figure out any puzzles (not that they're any challenge anyway). I'd say you're looking at about 4-5 hours right?

I understand your frustration but I would say that it's uncommon for any developer to fix corrupted saves. Typically you just need to start over... Sorry that sucks.

The saves aren't corrupted in my opinion. They simply aren't loaded properly by the game. Some people who had this problem managed to make the game load it properly. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. Why would I waste my time with this when there are tons of other good/better games out there? Don't answer, it doesn't matter, there's NO WAY I'm replaying it :p

Could it be the same issue as detailed here? Hopefully so, so that you can continue on with your choices.

I already seen all that. It's not my problem and attempting any of these fixes fails.

Played Skyrim last night for about 5 hours - only level 26 and it says I have only done 8 core missions in 60 hours. haahahahah I have a lot of fun clearing out stuff, selling, crafting, talking with peeps, exploring....hell, I dont' even need a main storyline! hahahah
Generally thats the way I play games like that too. Thats how ppl like us get hundreds of hours in those kinda games
Same here, to bad Bethesda doesn't take a lesson from Dead Island, Coop! Party2

Btw thanks for the tip about Unread Books, it will make a great addition. I also use a skill book mod which offers a choice whether to read now or save it.

Oh god, I must have played 16 hours of Skyrim this weekend. Love Dragonborn. I loved the first expansion too, so maybe I'm easy to please. I'm a huge ES fan and love the lore.

I didn't like Dead Island coop... With 3-4 people, the game is no longer survival horror, it's just pure action and you're constantly overpowered. It's kinda boring. Single player was awesome. A bit too much filler though.

I loved the 2D original. Best Zelda clone ever. I hated the 3D ones. It went the generic 3rd person route. A sequel would obviously be a 3D game, so meh.
