Okay, so people in NA? Majority of Americans (using major ISPs), and pretty much all Canadians have bandwidth caps. Feel sorry for those neighbors up north, they also get fucked on their mobile data plans...

So that's what was in that gigantic goddamn patch that is almost as large as the entire goddamn game installation, which I promptly canceled and uninstalled the game because nobody ain't got time fo dat from something I haven't even tried yet. We may have high-speed internet these days, but we DON'T have infinite goddamn bandwidth allowances to waste on your needlessly large updates...

Well, "censored" could mean just replacing red blood textures with green ones and disabling any dismemberment of humans, which I don't think is in this game anyway.

There were some bots for NS1 that came out after a while, but as already mentioned, the AI was pretty rudimentary. An AI commander would be all but impossible outside of scripting building placements, and the aliens aren't very challenging when they pretty much run straight at you trying to attack. Maybe NS2 modders will have better success with this more open engine and toolset.

I don't see any stolen assets in that article? I see similar camera angles/situations? Not at all the same situation...

As for additional DLC after the first Season Pass, I say HELL YEAH. You can be a pitiful cheap-ass all you like, wishing for your bargain bin GOTY purchase long before the actual value of the game has dropped that far, but you have no right to lament the Season Pass for being a rip off when they CLEARLY stated from the beginning that it includes FOUR campaign DLCs, and nothing more. They began working on new DLC because of how popular the game is/was... Do you really think they wouldn't have advertised two years' worth of post-release content from the get-go if they knew back then that that's what they'd be doing? Don't you think they would have LOVED to charge $60 for a double Season Pass at the time of release?

Mhhh... I tried NS2. I wished it had large open world maps with several square miles of area, proper infestation simulation, large scale complexes and vehicles as well as world changing infestation stages. Until then.. BF3 it is....

My dream game is AVP1 mixed with NS2 mixed with BF3 proper alien infestation simulation on large scale areas with underground labs and surface structures. Huge alien infestations spreading out to the surface, changing the climate and light. Cutting power to buildings around and distorting radar. Add vehicles for the Marines, and huge overworld and underground aliens like worms or dragon like fliers...

Looking at NS2 just makes me sad. So much potential.. so little of it used.

And of course.. 128 players. And a 1:2 balance for Marines:Aliens ie. Aliens get twice as many players as marines. That way, you could build balance around that. And make huge swarms possible.... ;p

If you want to see the conflict escalate to full-blown war, don't be a sad-sack and ignore this game... Tell all your friends to buy it and play with them, so they (Unknown Worlds) have more money for the next one. Frankly, it's a miracle they pulled off this sequel, they were in money trouble for so long. I don't know exactly what they were planning originally, but it may not have been so far off from your vision. AFAIK making it so similar to the first game/mod was a necessity, because they didn't have the budget for anything more.

This new game is all we're getting. Generals 2 is no more. Well, it's been turned into this F2P thing.

If they have a decent campaign and/or AI skirmish mode, I'll play it. I rarely ever waste my time with competitive multiplayer in RTS games...

If you already have FlatOut 2, DO NOT waste your money on Ultimate Carnage... It's almost a straight re-release, except it's WORSE in many ways.

Even if you do get the key early, and you can register it and it might even say "Pre-order" in your library... It doesn't count as a Steam pre-order with the bonuses unless you buy it from the Steam store. Also, most of the keys GMG has are classified as Retail or ROW, etc.

1. Re: BioShock Infinite Pre-order Bonuses Get Bonuses Feb 23, 2013, 12:24 jacobvandy

Steam pre-order bonuses do NOT apply to GMG pre-orders, regardless of the fact that all they're doing is handing you a Steam key, unless they specifically say so. One example I remember is that they did have some of those Professor Genki DLC keys for Saints Row The Third.

Right here, they're actually just poking the bear, saying "We don't believe in unlocking pre-order bonuses" and giving a couple of guaranteed free games. Though something about that deal is expiring after the weekend... I can't tell exactly what, since their advertisement is not very clear.

Firefall is not like PS2 at all, aside from being a free-to-play MMOFPS. It's open-world PVE with instanced-arena PVP. And there is no buying weapons and upgrades like that, only cosmetics and convenience (such as XP boosts, small fee to skip the wait for crafting, and more battleframe garage slots which effectively act as interchangeable character slots).

It's worth noting that ONLY the multiplayer is free... 'Cause, of course, one weekend would be ample time to play through that campaign a couple of times. And if you didn't give a shit about MP, that'd be it, no reason to buy it after.

Mad Max RW wrote on Feb 21, 2013, 16:09:
So did server ops start monitoring the rampant cheating from when this mod was still a few months old? I was able to dismiss some of the annoying engine quirks, but after I saw a Navy destroyer spawn on-top of a city block and a bunch of artillery shells appear out of nowhere I called it quits. Then there was the item duping that ruined the whole point of the game.

Around 6 months ago, almost the entire community had shifted to using private hive servers, rather than regulated, semi-official main hive ones. (Anyone could host a server, but you had to follow all of Rocket's rules as far as administration and not having any custom scripts or content.) This is because hacking was so out of control that server operators NEEDED the ability to take extra steps to combat it. That means many custom scripts that will auto-kick or -ban people for unauthorized actions such as spawning in weapons or other items, detect when they're doing things they really shouldn't be able to such as being in multiple places all over the map within an unrealistic amount of time, etc., and the freedom for admins to be more proactive in policing their server. As for the duping, just about all of those issues have been fixed, either with patches or more custom scripts that prevent people from abusing lag or disconnections. You still see the occasional hacker, but if it's a good server, it will be rectified pretty quickly, by banning the douchebag responsible (on a global list that most servers use to keep out the idiots) and/or rolling back the server to undo any serious damage.

None of that will be a concern for the standalone, though, since everything will be controlled by the server. DayZ Mod's problems with hacking stems from the way the ARMA engine was designed to accommodate the gameplay it was made for -- customized military skirmishes between organized groups of people. There was no concept of having to collect rare items or trolling random people, so client-side scripting was allowed and encouraged for both fun and convenience.

Are you sure about that? I wouldn't be surprised if version 2.0 of the mod is the ARMA3 port. Development of the mod is continuing alongside but completely separately from the standalone, though mostly by community members, not Bohemia devs.

I actually thought for a second that the SA had surprise-released last night, when I saw this. Very strange for a new addition to Steam to show up around 3am PST.

Anywho, people are guesstimating that the DayZ Standalone will be released within the next 4-5 weeks. Apparently Rocket is going on a trip to climb Mount Everest then, and has made statements about wanting to get the initial alpha release out beforehand.

I don't think that's the reason... Any rational development studio can look at Steam stats and see that more than half of PC gamers use 64-bit Windows 7. Counting the other 64-bit OS usage like Win 8 or Vista brings that up to a two-thirds majority.

First, that's not half of PC gamers. That's half of Steam gamers. Second, you're saying devs should purposefully create a game that cuts their potential steam customers in half even before they start. Pile on a consumer's genre preferences, mood, brand loyalty, past experiences and internet connection on top of that. If what you're saying is true, then we'd have PC-only 64-bit games right now yet we have but a scant few. I only came up with three, perhaps you can think of more.

PS4/Xbox720 will not suffer these tribulations.

Incidentally, and dovetailing with this conversation, Epic's Mark Rein said that most PC gamers play on their laptops- most of which use integrated Intel GPUs. He said this today after the PS4 event.

Hey, I don't like it either but that's what's out there.

First, it's called a representative sample, and it's the largest one we've got. That's how data is collected and analyzed, regardless of what the subject matter is, because it's impossible to collect information from every single person on Earth. Second, supporting 64-bit does NOT exclude 32-bit support... Every game you listed as an example does both.

You said the reason we don't see more 64-bit games is because of the install base of 32-bit operating systems, and I pointed to counter-evidence that most gamers are on a 64-bit OS now. It's not a matter of "if what I said is true," because those are facts. Ergo, the reason we don't have more 64-bit games has to do with something else. Laziness, maybe, or the fact that a sizable chunk of gamers still have 4GB or less of RAM, so 64-bit support wouldn't do anything for them.

Listen, I don't disagree with you that most games being 32-bit sucks. If anything, this next-generation of consoles standardized PCs will do a lot to assuage that, which is a good thing. Provided developers are actually able to take advantage of all that RAM, and it's not a case of Sony/MS wanting to use half of it for running all their OS crap in the background while you play...

Well at least the PS4 is going to run 64-bit software that can access all that memory. Meanwhile in PC land, we still get 32-bit games that address 2GB. Pseudo-limitation due to installed base.

Hopefully that rectifies itself in the coming year. Having more usable memory for a process (game) is what will allow us to get that "next-gen" experience.

Crysis 2 - 32bit, BF3 - 32bit, Witcher 2 - 32bit, Crysis 3 - 32bit, Guild Wars 2 - 32bit, SWTOR - 32bit, Planetside 2, Skyrim, Diablo 3.. Mass Effect 3, Secret World, ad...nauseum- many of which were or are PC only.

Damn that 32-bit Windows installed base. Damn it to hell.

Thinking off the top of my head-- 64-bit games. DCS A-10, X-Plane, and ah yes. World of Warcraft. Well thank god for that, yah?

I don't think that's the reason... Any rational development studio can look at Steam stats and see that more than half of PC gamers use 64-bit Windows 7. Counting the other 64-bit OS usage like Win 8 or Vista brings that up to a two-thirds majority.
