Avoiding the growing quote and not wanting to mess with it on my phone...

With the devs claiming 2h are in a good place and that it's due to the ilvl 63 weapons no longer being available now...then why the hell are 1h rolling over 1300 and 1400 dps when they never rolled that high before? As far as I know they haven't explained that.

That's just the new stat ranges - I'm not sure the question. 2 handers do indeed roll higher, just not by a whole lot. My only point was just that we don't see the whole picture yet.

Not sure where you think the confusion is. When 2h are rolling Dmg in the same range as 1h (they aren't rolling higher), they aren't rolling more stat affixes, the stats they are rolling are only slightly higher and don't have 2 sockets, in most cases they aren't going to compare to dual wield or 1h + offhand. This is all over their forums.
Not everyone is going to get RoS. If 1h and 2h aren't balanced for the whole leveling process, it's out of line. If its just fine at lvl 70, that isn't good enough.

Good 1h used to be 975-1250ish with an extremely rare few being higher. Then those were even better with socket and good stats. Good 2h were 1374-1550 with socket and good stats. Now good 1h (at 60) are 1300-1450 with the best 2h I have seen rolling around 1350, most being 1100-1250.

The devs have given 3 excuses. 2h tuned around Crusader using 2h and shield, a bug with 2h rolling as 1h (supposedly fixed now), and the ilvl 63 thing. I dont think they really know and are confused as to how to balance 2h. As I said in another thread, we'll see what happens at lvl 70...but this was a complaint in RoS beta and hasn't changed, so I don't expect it will be better at 70. We shall see.

Agreed, although orbs as I mentioned are in the same place. Currently dropping ones are far inferior to the ones that used to drop (although damage to skill can offset that.)

2 handers do drop with higher ranges, though, or at least they will once the bug is fixed. The higher range doesn't to most folks justify giving up the second weapon and all it brings, but as I mentioned in certain builds it most certainly does (Rend, Explosive Blast, etc.)

Again, I don't think 2 handers are good enough either. But they were niche before, and are niche now, so maybe that's just how they like them. Shrug.

Mmm... now if they could get some Aus Wow servers (not oceanic time servers), I might actually give it a go =)

I thought this thread was about offline mode.

Yes it is nin, but some of the loot changes like 2H weapons are still a no go. Why would anyone use a 2H weapon when using two 1H weapons give you more damage and better stats all around over the 2H weapon? No one uses 2H weapons in the game, the stats are still way to low on them. Use loose way to much damage and stats when comparing them.

I play as a monk, and Diabos drop all the time, but im still not giving up my 1H weapons. Again, the stats!

Krovven made this point in game a few weeks ago, concerning Wizards...

But, as I'm running a ray of frost build, 2h is the way to go, even if the damage value is a bit lower...

I had built my char around efficiency, so getting 15s of constant ray of frostness was great for some of the bigger enemies, but when I got a 1h upgrade, I switched, and that 15s was quickly turned into 8s... Yes, my 'mana' was sucked up twice as fast, and my damage may have been increased about 5-10%...

I looked into it and found a helpful post, and it has to do with attack speed using up resources faster, but not providing a dps gain... I believe this is also why whirlwind Barb's are 2H. Not sure, what in the monk uses this dynamic, other than the Tempest Rush (I think it's called), but that's not a dps ability.

-Alamar

Yep. And I did also say there are circumstances where 2h did still work and the example I gave was my Witch Doctor. The issue there however is that I have not found a post patch 2h that even comes close to replacing my Int/Crit dmg/life leech/socket Skorn and yes 1h/offhand eats up my mana too quickly as I didn't have a good enough offhand. Or my Demon Hunter where i can use a 2h Bow with a Quiver. Whereas all my 1h classes I've upgraded my weapons significantly (1300-1400 dps w/ socket) post patch and no new 2h drops make me even consider using a 2h instead. One of the big problems is 2h that don't have 2 sockets. A Marquise Emerald is worth 20k+ dps (varied by your crit chance) all by itself. It's bad enough when a 2h has just 1 socket, but no sockets it's not even worth a second look especially when the Dmg is close to that of a single 1h weapon.

They say it works at lvl 70. Time will tell. But right now I don't see it. In most cases I stand to lose 50k+ dps and additional stats to make a switch and that's just way out of line.

The devs have been quoted as saying they are fine with 2handers being niche weapons, but I think they will probably buff them as even the most ardent 2 handers are unhappy with their state. Reason being is crit damage was taken away from weapons and that was the biggest reason to use them before.

That said, there still are niche uses (and they were mostly niche used before.) There are builds that are about how much damage you do in a particular hit and has no bearing on attack speed (rend for example.) Those will always take the big 2 hander.

I think part of the problem stems from the fact that in 2.0 the weapons just don't roll high enough to offset what we had in 1.08. Like wizard orbs - the average damage rolls on those are appallingly lower than the level 63 items we had before. It's just a sort of hacky middle ground, though, until RoS opens up next week and everyone starts getting the 70 items.

Conversely I found POE to still have annoying desync issues and gave up on it awhile ago.

Outside of launch window Diablo 3 was fine. It had many other problems but latency isn't really one.

Not usually, no, but 2 nights in a row they did after 2.0. I think it was Thursday and Friday. The first night getting into games was very hit and miss (maybe connecting to 20% of games), but once in you were ok. The second night you could create games but the latency was out of this world bad (>1000 often.) There were lots of official posts about it, but in the end the result was "server load."

Again I laugh at these people that are defending EA, voted the worst company for many years.

Good point. I haven't spent most of my life in software development or anything. Also, calling bullshit on it taking 5 minutes (even as a massive exaggeration) is defending EA and of course I'm definitely saying that they couldn't have released it a moment sooner. Of course, them being voted the worst company in the USA does of course mean that any nonsense against them must be valid. GUILTY YOUR HONOUR!

D3 2.0 is great and I put a LOT of hours into the original (combat just never got old.)

My favorite found legendary so far is the one that gives you a huge speed boost when you break an object (of which there are tons.) So you put on an always on AOE skill around yourself and zip around like a speed hack.

That and the belt that gives you literally > double damage when you loot something, open a chest, etc. Get into an elite fight and start thinking "where's the chest?!"

I look at it like this - game in development. It will have lots of delays (they all do.) Do not like, do not donate.

I sit corrected. I don't remember hearing anything particularly negative about TC and picked it up last year on the Steam Big Box o' X sale.

As always, they fixed the bugs (or at least most of them. The guide I wrote still has people responding to it to this day that they're getting stuck somewhere.)

Like I said, the design decisions are just a more clear and recent example of Egosoft's grasp exceeding their reach. They've got great ideas and great artists, to be sure, but damn do their systems coders need more experience or to be lead by someone with complex, hierarchical systems experience.

Yeah, absolutely. I think getting a coder who understands how to program something to run on multiple threads might be a good start, since it's kinda doubtful Rebirth actually does that...

I'd seen this somewhere. This was actually one of the things I was really looking forward to in X:R since X3TC was so CPU bound. Didn't they have a developer vid or something talking about how multithreaded it was?

Dont get me wrong, the amount of time to make Star Citizen is really short compared to X rebirth !!! But what? it took 7 years to release a crap game like X rebirth ???? Animations are crap, in ship textures are crap, the only good looking thing is space.

X Rebirth is a total letdown. I am keeping my fringers crossed for Star Citizen.

Oh trust me, i think myself and countless other Bluesnews commentators would like nothing else then to be completely wrong in every regard about this game. In fact nothing would make me happier then to be wrong about this game.

So it's that bad huh? I was really looking forward to it (really liked X3TC.)

What? These features don't, in any way, turn the game into a tech demo. Far cry 2 and 3 are tech demos? I had a LOT more fun with Crysis 1 than Crysis 2. Crysis 2 is a COD clone. Crysis 1 is the evolution of Farcry 1. The reason it's less fun is debatable, but I think it's because they tried to go the more serious route.
The problem with Crysis is that it had weak gameplay, a terrible narrative and was very poorly optimised. By the time people were able to play it at high settings there were games with much better gameplay, graphics and optimisation - Far Cry 2 being an obvious example. I can certainly understand why people refer to Crysis as a tech demo. Crysis 2 had a much better narrative, pace and optimisation - it was the better game, even if it went a bit too linear.

Crysis 1 is still one of the best looking games out there in my opinion, if you consider that it's open world. Compare it to any other open world shooter released to date and it looks better. I also disagree that Crysis 2 was the better game. I had more fun with the first. But whatever, that's just me.

Nah not just you. I had to force myself to finish Crysis 2 and I loved the first one. I never get the tech demo argument either, but I guess it's all just opinions anyway. The original Crysis is actually one of my favorite shooters.

They made the mistake of putting all the character's weight in to gear and then funneling the best stats in to three types: crit damage, crit chance, and attack speed. Weapon damage was great since it's what your abilities were based off of but even a higher-damage weapon was garbage if it didn't have at least two of those three stats.

You are correct in general, but technically weapons can only have crit damage, while it's various armor pieces that are worthless without generally two of the three. It is all very homogenized.

It's really so hard to understand that some games play better with a controller? FPS, RTS, etc play infinitely better with a keyboard and mouse, flight sims and space games play better with a joystick, and 3rd person fighting style games (batman AA/AC, darksiders, dark souls) play better with a controller.

Funny, I could make the same exact argument for Dark Souls - playing with a keyboard and mouse is clearly not how it's intended to be played. Should it have been playable that way? Absolutely. Is that the best way to play it - absolutely not.

Yeah agreed Penguin, Skyrim is nice to look at but the combat feels absolutely antiquated when you finally play a great combat system. The weight, feedback and fluidity of the combat in the Souls games is just awesome. I loved the PvP system too, they implemented it all really well.

I still remember my first win when I was invaded. (All previous invasions at that point were painfully lopsided.) I was in Sen's Fortress and was at the furthest point I had been, so was in all new territory, then I get the dreaded "Invasion" text.

I wait around for a bit but no one comes to fight. Confused, I simply moved on. There was a point in that level where there is a long narrow bridge (the narrowest one.) The invader dropped down there from above as I was crossing it (literally for the first time.) I almost pissed myself.

I could see he was wielding a katana, which for me was lucky, as I was a dex build and couldn't deal well with big strong attacks (my poise wasn't great.) I knew my strongest attack was my pyromancy glove which I had upgraded quite a bit, but I didn't want him to know I had it.

So I ran around a bit faking with my katana out, blocking and dodging and looking for an opening to surprise him by switching to pyromany. Then he hits me with his lightning katana and almost killed me in one hit. I managed to roll around, switch to my glove and use Greater Combustion on him and almost killed HIM in one hit. He started to back away, and I managed to get him in a narrow hallway where we both attacked at almost the same time. Obviously since this my first win, you know who got the last hit.

The humanity and souls he dropped I managed to lose about two minutes later, as I said this was the furthest I had been in Sen's (that level is a bitch the first time.)
