Pointless nontroversies aside, Horizon immediately got me with a startlingly unique premise, and the game was great.

Ya the combat was super fun, story was interesting with some good twists, voice acting was pretty great (RIP Lance Reddick) and the world was fun to explore and looked really amazing.

Again, maybe I missed something, but I felt I was getting weaker, not stronger.

There were definitely some tougher enemies but mostly it was about figuring out what they were doing that would murder you and then dismantling that. Certainly didn’t seem frustratingly hard and I’m pretty terrible at reflexes

It's the sequel where for whatever reason, they made Aloy uglier. Look at the difference ! That is crazy !

This is a joke post right? If not, I played through the entirety of the first game not so long ago on PC and she mostly looked like the pic on the right - albeit that is clearly one to intentionally make her look bad (frown, etc). The one on the left is most certainly not what she looked like. Someone altered that pic imho.

Ya sort of expected lots of "about time! let's finally see it" comments.

I'll admit there is certainly some clunk in the trunk when playing on PC, but I really liked the first person mode (used a controller for vehicles) and the game in general (5).

Oh well, I guess Rocksteady will survive on a 179,999,990 copies sold this time around.

While it is good to see AMD launch its own Frame Generation thing, I am just not a huge fan of it (neither Nvidia's DLSS). If the power of the GPU is so limited that it needs to downscale and then AI upscale and use "fake" frames and so on, it often shows. I have watched a friend playing Cyperpunk 2077 on a 4090 with DLSS and I think FG was turned on, too, and it just did not look good very often. Ghosting, and sometimes a sort of shimmering effect on e.g. fences and a sort of "bleeding" colors effect... I know, Nvidia and AMD (and most likely Intel) are working on improvements of their solutions but up to now, their solutions still have many obvious problems.
So - right now, no thank you. But good luck improving them and once they look as good as the original image, I will try this on my 7900XT.

I have a 4080 and i play cyberpunk a lot. You can max out the settings, i mean MAX them out at 4K with path tracing and psyco reflections if you use frame generation and DLSS set to QUALITY and get close to 80-100 FPS. You can get 130 FPS if you play at 1440.

I have done tons of testing with all these settings and 4K maxed out with frame gen and DLSS set to QUALITY and you can not tell the difference at all during game play. You have to stop and examine every little detail to find a problem. The game looks stunning.

With these things turned off i cant use even close to those settings and the game does not look even close to as good.

Above post meant to quote this

Like to follow up here's a quote from an EVGA forum for someone who tried it:
Frame generation in it's current state is garbage. Without them introducing some form of asynchronous reprojection as part of the rendering pipeline to make your inputs feel better, frame generation just makes games objectively feel worse. Full stop, not up for debate: Frame generation introduces MORE input lag the more you rely on it. Even with forced on Nvidia reflex the game feels terrible with frame generation on using RT Overdrive. Everything you do feels squishy, imprecise and delayed regardless of the frame counter displaying 90-100fps. It has nothing to do with "AAA developer eye" or "3D artist" or whatever nonsense you're spouting now. The crux of the issue is and always has been the input delay forced upon you by enabling frame generation. I'd take the smaller and harder to notice visual artifacts if they could make it "feel" 1:1 with player input. As it is the tech looks good in videos so show off but the minute you start to actually play it, the facade cracks, and you realize it's not worth the compromise when the game feels like garbage to actually play.
These are not my opinions though, as I haven't tried it. I REALLY wanted to but didn't spring for a new video card when seeing stuff like this. I have a 3080 if it matters.

So that's interesting. I watched a really detailed review of DLSS 3 Frame Generation (I believe by Hardware Unboxed), and they said while the numbers looked amazing, it didn't really feel like it. Basically the game felt like you were running at the lower frame rate with input lag. So they came away from it saying it was really good for numbers but for twitchy games it didn't feel like you were getting that huge frame gain. They said for games like MS Flight Simulator that didn't require twitch reflexes it was great though.

Super high frames rates for me is all about the feel of swinging that mouse around and it FEELING smooth, so that was a real turn off for me and I didn't really look into it further. Are you saying you don't feel like this?

A shame I have to play a modded version which makes it illegal to play online. But I just can't handle the 60fps cap and the auto-centering of the camera while moving around. It feels like I am literally fighting with my mouse; like some phantom is fighting me for its control. So for that garbage alone this game should be getting lots of flak.

But yeah I am loving this game. Kinda annoyed that I can't think of a better weapon than my starter weapon, now Broadsword +14. What's the favorite weapon(s) of you guys?

Agreed with above - definitely my favorite souls game and probably in my top 10 all time.

Really like katanas so the Uchigatana you find pretty early held me up for a super long time (Bleed + a great Ash of War)

For those saying that Elden Ring is fine there are numerous Digital Foundry videos with video evidence of it being not fine as well as streamers with half second pauses.

Ya it used to pause, it doesn't any more. I have 60 hours in the game. If I go to a new area that has to do whatever a shader cache needs to do I presume it will stutter again, but I can't remember the last time I saw one.

No real issues here on PC with a 3080 and 5900x. It did stutter when loading new areas but that has gone away. I'm not sure if they fixed something or if it was indeed the shader cache needing to be generated (I read that many folks thought that was why it would stutter intermittently.)

I'm using the unlocked FPS from widescreen fixer - outdoor busy areas it's 60 to 90 FPS at 4k mostly high settings, indoors I have it capped at 118 (I have a 120 hz display)

I think the game is fantastic, but if you don't like Dark Souls games I don't see why you would like this - as someone earlier posted it is most certainly Dark Souls 4. The gameplay is nearly identical - you just have much much larger areas, a horse, and a jump button.

Personally would easily get a 10 out of 10, but I think Dark Souls games are some of the best games around and this is the best one in my opinion.
If I HAD to make a gripe, I'd say the engine isn't nearly as pretty as Horizon or Red Dead 2. It still looks terrific, though, because modern games, and From's art style is superb (imho.)

See my comment below - what's your thoughts on spoiling the game early? My understanding was that it was going to be this really big open world space game. Sort of makes me think of BG3 - playing the first act seems like it would make the eventual release much less fun.

Hate having to wait so long though as the game looks amazing!

Now that my hardware can run the game properly, I have changed my tune. Even combat feels pretty decent now that the game doesn't run like shit. Low performance somehow had a bigger influence to this game than any other to me somehow.

Yep, this game is fucking amazing. I swear I fell in love with Panam, that sexy ass drama queen. This game has passion all over it. Most (side) characters text or call you just to check how you're doing, and you are free to do the same to them. One main character also functions as the comical release and I love him and V for it. Its open world should really just function as a top-notch backdrop for simply amazing, deep quests. I've only played side-quests for hours today, not touching the main quest at all, yet it felt like I was progressing through the main story. The side-quests are that impressive, with a long chain. Exactly what you'd expect from CDP have you played TW3.

I've been holding off as well, having just upgraded myself to a machine that can run it (5900x + 3080.) Having heard all the horror stories about bugs had me waiting. Is this overblown? Definitely loved Witcher 3.

. In fact, scores mean shit, especially on 1 to 10 scale. I mean, seriously, is anything under a score of 7 good? So why even have a 1, 2, 3, 4.5, 5, 6, 6.5? lol

I find value in the numbers - 1 is an awful game, 3 is bad, 5 is mediocre, etc. Do many games get those scores? No, but I don't see why that means anything, other than most studios have some quality control.

The argument I usually see about not having scores is that people will just look at the number and not read the article. While I get that argument, if I'm interested in reviews of something (anything really), I tend to check out some good reviews, bad reviews, etc. If they don't give it a score, then I just don't end up checking out their review. Since there are so many reviews out there, the score is just a convenient way to bucket it.

Ahh - thank you! Shows I registered to be notified on 9/18 but nothing sent yet.

For a 3080, right? They have prioritized the higher-end models, trying to get as much money from what few chips they have, so if it's an Ultra you might be getting an email soon. Cheaper Black and Gaming ones are still on 9/16 according to what I've seen. Here's a report which is supposed to be regularly updated by an EVGA employee.

I have one for all the non waterblocked 3080s, so I GUESS I'm getting close? That's really good info, thanks!

I've pretty much always gone purple so used some sort of turret to beat the final boss. It didn't work well on the first boss cell difficulty so I was trying green with shields as I saw some folks posted about how you could block all his attacks.

I did see you can use multiple save slots to keep practicing the final boss. I haven't tried it yet but that seems super handy.

Bought the DLC but haven't tried it yet!
