I thought witcher 2 rewards exploration better than 1 did and overall it was a very very impressive action RPG. And that's basically what it was an action RPG with a dark storyline.
My only minor beef is with the graphics which were awesome in 9000 ways, but the bitmaps had an intionally grainy look to them that (YMMV) that was sometimes jarring. |

| patch now requires .net 4 (which auto pushes install), which then pushes 2 50 MG each security patches via windows update. sigh. I try to keep .net crap off the computer. |

no website on the planet has talked about this but I am running skyrim with zero issues on the intel graphics chipset (the one on the 2nd gen i CPU's) that understands TandL directX.
Performs completely fine at medium settings -- no issues whatsoever. Nice scenario for a laptop.
Like others have said, it helps that skyrim was designed to run efficiently on the now ancient hardware of game consoles. |

These days, alternative game purchase options, like buying a CD not tied to a network client, are dwindling. So gamers are forced to use Steam.
Skyrim is a perfect example: the retail disk version is just the Steam client installer with the actual game compressed in a Steam format.
So Yes, I love Steam just like I love my cable TV company. |

Does anyone at Mozilla realize they are very quickly and very actively _ruining_ firefox?
I am a big fan of firefox and they are losing me.

What Skyrim does 1000% better than Oblivion (incomplete list):
finishing moves in melee combat got rid of all of those over-used glowy and haze effects better lighting effects better distant views no 'Oblivion gate' crap
I really want a hires texture pack: otherwise the game is pretty dang great. |

| I would happily play the the re-do of the first Halo for 20 bucks. 40 bucks is too much though. I suspect most folks are thinking the same.... |

Oblivion had a disk check but you could copy the source disk with no effort and a standard burn and the disk check would still work so not really DRM.....

Oblivion was 100% DRM free -- ah those were the days. Skyrim requires Steamworks.
Oblivion had a simple disc check.

Blizzard doesnt really care about the dwindling subscriptions for WOW because Diablo3 will be the new WOW cash-cow as far as they are concerned.

I think there's a more subtle version:
Wait for the GOTY version with all of the DLC provided and play the crack of the main game in the meantime. I dont do that but boy I have been tempted with a few games. The only thing that stopped me was that games are discounting so quickly after release there's little point in cracking. Deus EX 2 is a good example: it was 34.99 at Amazon during release week.
Skyrim concerns me though: I think we'll see a lots of $15 DLC that should have been in the main game in the first place. Mark my words. |

| we're having quite a bit of fun with kinect sports 2 even though purely as a game it is wonky. Kinect needs a much faster CPU to process the data streaming in and only then will it be compelling. MS knew that of course.... |

| I am surprised how very very similar Uncharted 3 is to 2. Looks like the same assets were used. Same gameplay mechanics. |
