I think gamespot's reviews says there is indeed a story but it is kinda generic in their opinion.

actually if you compare to the last couple of years rather than just last year -- game sales are wayyyyy down. Not just a blip on the radar.

7. Re: Skyrim IAAS Game of the Year Feb 10, 2012, 10:55 avianflu

Entirely agree with Slashman.

Other than the very disappointing melee combat (there no sense of contact -- its like you are waving a sword around in the air), the game was crazy ambitious and and bound to fail. But it didnt.

I still want an RPG like BG2 but that's never going to happen in the 21st century I guess.

It is the blockbuster releases that have the most annoying DRM/DLC/on line pass issues.

I am waiting on Mass Effect 3 because I am convinced the release of that game will be some form of DRM disaster for gamers, regardless of platform.

News Comments > Unscheduled Ubisoft Downtime
18. Re: Unscheduled Ubisoft Downtime Feb 8, 2012, 16:17 avianflu

Ubi's explanation for this is that the recent downtime was bad enough that they felt compelled to move their servers over to somewhere else/something else. Not sure I buy it, but it is plausible I suppose.

Basically this downtime is annoying only for those who didnt crack their Ubi games. And that's a dreary thought.

I strongly suspect the vita will die a slow and ultimately non-profitable death in the USA.

News Comments > Skyrim Hi-Rez Pack & Creation Kit
65. Re: Skyrim Hi-Rez Pack & Creation Kit Feb 7, 2012, 20:06 avianflu

texture pack works great with my nvidia card. You can imediately tell some textures are much cleaner and more detailed, especially clothing.

p.s. Like a few others here, I run the game via HDMI to my HDTV and it looks great and the couch is comfy. You also gain the benefit of running at native 720P, which puts less work on your PC's GPU if you have a 24 inch LCD display like I do that runs native at 1920x1200. The wireless 360 controller works with this _particular_ game well --- though I wouldnt say I would want to use a console controller for all games.

FYI -- according to the amalur game forums, the boxed/disk version also requires Origin installation, which is not a surprise.

So its either Steam or Origin if you want to play this game.

considering the giant and surprisingly varied world it creates, the game looks great, even with the vanilla textures.

arent these lifetime achievement awards often the kiss of death professionally?

Look at poor Sid Meier: The last simcity, 2 versions of spore and lots of generic sim city sequels.

The game industry would love to get rid of physical media completely so that a lot of distinctions folks here are making regarding "disks" would not mean anything any more.

CJ the UBI post states that some games including HOMMVI are "unplayable" (Ubi's wording) during the transition, including single player.

unless you see more info on that link than I do?

I am one the fools who bought their HOMM VI game (V is actually better then VI to give folks some idea what's up with VI).

Ultra annoyed that the single player goes down when their servers go down.

I tried to bring this topic up here in the past but it is usually shot down with a comment like "Steam is too big to fail and/or get sold off to another company, so dont worry about it."

Backups via Steam? That might work with some steam games but I wouldnt bet on that as a solution across the board.

Time will tell, but the underlying issue is that we purchased the "right" to play them via Steam. And that's all we purchased.

I suspect the money is running out at ID on top of other things.

I recall vividly the arrival of Doom 3 and my genuine shock at how terrible that was (as both a game and an engine).

warpcrow I agree but at the same time, the working condition in the foxcon factories are unusually slave-like and it happens there on a huge scale. I am surprised Apple doesnt get more heat from consumers about the issue....
