I have the galaxy II S and while it is a GREAT phone, it has 8 hours of battery life if I keep LTE on.

However it is worth mentioning that if I turn data off, I get 2 full days easily.

The PR problem for Apple though is that Apple intentionally presents itself as hipster cool and ecology-minded green. Yes that's all BS of course but Dell and HP etc dont present themselves like that.

_That's_ the problem with Foxconn and Apple.

The weasily official response from EA was entertaining to read.

EA _genuinely_ annoyed some of their biggest fans of the game franchise. I am sure EA is hoping it will blow over.

I sense some very real occupational burnout too, which is understandable.

News Comments > Gabe Newell on Valve Hardware and Owning Steam Games
98. Re: Gabe Newell on Valve Hardware and Owning Steam Games Feb 21, 2012, 15:33 avianflu

Well, we'll know in 2 years of less. Steam _will_ have suits after the sale. And Gabe will be in bermuda, having retired after the sale in which he will profit immensely for selling.

My half-serious hunch is that MS will buy Steam as part of their attempt to fully occupy our living rooms with a "unified digital media box." And yea MS has the cash for it.

Actually any number of hedgefunds have the cash to buy Steam right now, strip it of its assets over a few years, and sell it as a skeleton -- standard practice. But that's another topic!

With AO and the previous nvidia tweak, the AO did indeed look great but there were some graphical bugs that made me disable it.

In larger caves with lots of fog the AO was all messed up. Perhaps this driver fixes all of that.

83. Re: Gabe Newell on Valve Hardware and Owning Steam Games Feb 21, 2012, 07:40 avianflu

Whenever Steam is sold off for $$ (and it will) there's all kinds of unpleasant possibilities. A $20 a year maintenance charge to access your games. $20 per install of network client on different computers. $20 to create a Steam account for the first time. etc. And believe me, the suits sitting around the table at Steam are already thinking about the above.

Look what netflix tried to do when it split the service, reduced the services, and raised the prices (though happily it failed at all of that). ** We already know this is what digital business can do legally to bring in more revenue on existing user accounts.** Steam is no different. There's nothing legal to stop Steam from changing the rules of access tomorrow morning and then again 6 months from now. Geez look how often phone billing rules change and nothing ever happens to them via any legal entity!

So yea, a "game on an install disk" seems extra extra quaint in the digital age but the bottomline is that owning a game disk was far better for the consumer versus the unknown of buying games off of a network client.

Some _great_ points made here but

Newell intentionally spoke PR blather that meant absolutely nothing.

So to parse what he said is particularly pointless because he did not say anything.

I was 100% ready to preorder and then the hilarious memory card prices were announced.

Honestly I love the dual joysticks but the system is going to slowwwllllly fail.

I never cared so much about the various 360 interfaces; well that is, until Metro arrived. It is terrible.

There's a lot more background downloading and resource swapping behind the scenes.

It is isnt apparent until you start moving thru the interface quickly and then the framerate stutters.

Pretty much hate Metro.

Adamowicz was enviably talented.

Had no idea how much he contributed to the look of Fallout 3 and other games

not many seem to know this but if you want the absolute crispest textures when using high res textures:

in your driver -- you should turn anisotropic completely off (no texture filtering) and also choose highest quality textures.

nvidia mentions this in their skyrim config FAQ.

makes a big difference for anything within 3-ish feet of your skyrim character.

Cliffski is _always_ negative about games that arent _his_ games on his blog.

Sometimes his rants are interesting but other times I suspect he is expressing some form of professional jealousy.

The pickle wrote on Feb 13, 2012, 16:00:
People who say they don't want or use origins crack me up. It's the same thing as steam.

Think of it this way Pickle: I already have one network game client that I do not want on my computer called Steam.

I do draw the line at 2 network game clients. Or 3 or 4. One is bad enough. Other can draw that line differently.

Origin is not going on my computers, so maybe for the 360 whenever it goes to 25 bucks.

I genuinely enjoyed some of the story-lines in ME2. ME1 was however a bit of a dog.

DrEvil == We actually agree more than disagree if you read my post one more time. Look at the first sentence of my post.

But you are completely absolving _businesses_ of responsibility for consumer data stored on their servers?? Seriously ? That's not kosher for fairly obvious reasons.

It is 100% "buyer beware" every single time you use a credit card in any web-based scenario. Happy Thoughts.

Sony never got a credit card from me for the PS3 and boy am I thankful I was prudent on that one.

Sadly I finally joined Steam solely for Skyrim because there was no other option. I bought the boxed version of Skyrim and all it was was the steam installer on the disk. Joke on the consumer there. So steam got a credit card out of me.

Let's NOT leave Valve off the hook: every time there is a credit card breach in the news, it _is_ the fault of the company in some manner of lax security with passwords/breadth of access to internal users/encryption.

Why is no one bringing up the infamous breach at Valve were Gabe's office desktop was hacked with a worm that Gabe himself inadvertently installed and left running for months? Thereby causing the theft of HL2 before release. Not a good precedent for Valve.
