Star Trek looks awfully similar to mass effect -- looks like same unreal engine too.

Bioshock 2 I thought was a bit of a disaster....hastily put together from existing assets and the plot didnt really make sense.

Heroes VI had various on-line requirements and the servers went up and down more times than I can count. The GUI was a case-lesson in badness. Worst purchase I made in 2012 and removed from my hardrive.

SONY has not finalized anything about used games:

Google arstechnica Sony UK exec: PS4 used game question “isn’t clarified just yet”
"British boss' pointed non-statement walks Sony back on the controversial issue."

If SONY's goal was to cloud this issue for their consumers, they succeeded.

i am playing resident evil 4 now and the QTE's are 1000% pointless.

First time you instantly die because you didnt see it coming.
Go back to last save point.
Next time you hit it right, hopefully.
Cutscene continues.
Ugh.

Garriot is trying to alienate all of his game dev peers in one fell swoop.

both new consoles -- when actually released and ready to buy at a store -- will have annoying used-game restrictions of some sort, and some form of annoying mandatory internet-requirement.

Neither will be worth buying imho.

I liked the qte's in the first god of war (you felt like you were making something happen because you saw it gradually happen/change on the screen).

But I havent like a single use of QTE since.

i dont know guys -- the timing of his firing suggests at least some correlation.

More amusing to me is that the previous EA CEO will take over for the ousted CEO. That's not typical.

15. Re: Origin Vulnerable to Remote Execution Mar 19, 2013, 14:32 avianflu

the underlying more serious issue is that all network game clients have too many non-obvious tendrils threaded into the system kernel and web browsers.

In this instance the issue is that, anytime after installing the game client, you have the "feature" of being able to launch a game installed on your computer thru a URL on a web page.

It is just a matter of time for Origin or Steam or UPLay to become a genuine matter of concern to us all.

I agree batman.

SONY should have included a 16gig card with the Vita for $249, and they would have had me at launch day. Of course, glad I didnt buy one at all at this point.

the article seems to infer the Levine wrote the script but that isnt likely. It is a rather key point that isnt made clear. Or there wasnt any script draft at all and they were just shopping it around. More likely.

Amazon is selling simcity again but with a large boxed disclaimer.

However it is still selling at 59.99, which is ridiculous. If there was ever a big-budget release game to drop to 29.99 immediately, this is the one.

"DNA Hack" -- Their last step was to simply google names to triangulate identity.

In the near future it will be advantageous privacy-wise to have very generic names like Bob Smith. Much harder to pin down which Bob Smith is the Bob Smith you are looking for than if your name is Provicio LeBandito.

Console devs almost uniformly dont care about FPS. I am willing to bet that wont change in the next gen.

The historical exception were Naughty Dog and Insomniac, who regularly released PS2 games at full 60fps (J and Dexter and R and Clank franchises). That engine was very impressive for its time.
