bottomline -- buying an alpha stat game makes little sense for the _gamer_.

Stop right there about criticizing the first NOLF!

Other than too much level padding at the end (the ski slopes) it is a great game with perfect visual design. And it was funny to boot.

All the subsequent NOLFs were total dreck with mindless respawning enemies, sadly.

Eternal Darkness?

Even for that time, it has some notable design issues. The healing bit was just plain broken and the combat was wonky.

because 30 fps is barely sufficient and the next gen consoles should be doing better than that -- otherwise what is the point?

As I have said before here, there's zero incentive for game devs to aim for faster framerates on the new consoles. There's no incentive to optimize.

Meanwhile I get 50 fixed rate frames on borderlands 2 for PC with explosions going off everywhere....that game engine is sleek.

News Comments > NVIDIA: "No Longer Possible" for Consoles to Better PC Graphics
29. Re: NVIDIA: Sep 24, 2013, 13:19 avianflu

PC gaming will be doing fine for the next several years because it is a niche market and Steam has successfully marketized that gaming consumer:

it is dedicated gaming hardware of any sort that will be gradually losing to tablets (and by extension cellphones for obvious reasons) in just a few years. Come to NYC -- it is very apparent. Tablets get passed around indoors -- not just used for mobile these days. Yea I know its annoying but the trend is undeniable.

Yes but go to a major university -- young people with money and gadgets -- tablets everywhere, cellphones, and ultrabooks. The changes are rapid wherever there is disposable income. Those are your consumers for gaming hardware, not the business enterprise.

nin, I agree that the consumer interest is there for the new home (non portable) consoles. It will be a solid holiday sales season for them at launch no question.

BUT as someone else said here, tablets are overtaking gaming in the **broader global consumer** marketplace. 2 years or even sooner. We at Blues may not like that, but that is where the dev money is going. In a way indie-devs and cellphones are to blame. Cheap to make games and the public wants them.

PC gaming is actually growing and solidifying into solid year-to-year sales -- in spite of a giant global recession. Still niche, but not dead or dying.

It is the new home consoles that will have a rocky path, not PC's.

He's right of course.

But it isnt in the interest of any company that is in any way connected to the game industry to actually say that out loud -- and to the press no less.

there is plenty of single player gameplay in State of Decay. That said -- it has a satisfying endgame, but no "sandbox" mode thereafter.

For me, all of these issues went away with the 360 patch. The stuttery framerate when driving was a bummer, and that never went away.

The game forces you to poorly experiment in one play thru -- and then play thru again when you can really kick ass. The key is to move your group as soon as possible to a larger facility and then have them forage all of the time. This gives you plenty of time to do whatever you want. Then forage for medicine one time before you sign off. No one will die.

The best part of the game is the surprising depth to character skills and combat abilities. It is really buried in the interface but once you see it, you see the possibilities.

Honestly top 10 game of the year for me.

the moderators who make these judgement calls about "who gets banned or suspended" are far too often faulty in their judgement.

Agree nin, that might be one thing EA eith a new CEO could change == make Origin network game client go away and push their games to Steam. Only time will tell.

Meet the new guy, same as the old guy.

I'll be curious if there's any change on their push of Origin, as opposed to also using steam.
