Slash re: your statement that Steam would be around "till we all die"

That is a very 20th Century statement. Few businesses of any sort large or small last that long these days. I couldnt take that idea at all seriously.

I do think Steam will be completely viable for another 5 years. After that? Who knows.

nin, sorry but you are espousing the corporate view of software licensing. There are many who would raise an eyebrow at your matter of factness on that particular topic.

At best, those "universal" software agreements are boiler-plate corporate lawyer spin. That are specifically designed to protect big business, not the consumer.

Slash, you explain the advantages for the devs re: the Steam client, which is all great for devs.

However, for consumers? Suggesting that Steam will be around "to the day we die" is not likely convincing to most folks.

Steam is in effect a game renting service with mandatory game client.

You dont own your games if Steam goes away.

Pro Steam folks make some good points but sorry guya, the truth is that your game library is a rental library.

The powers that be in Blizzard are aware that the PC version of Diablo 3 was a disaster.

The question is what will they do next -- and it sounds like we will hear soon enough.

I think the larger issue is the PA is going into the crapper.

the only good thing about the success of Steam is that it will eventually -- eventually -- destroy Origin and Uplay.

The vanilla Skyrim experience is a really average game and is a bit of a technical mess, you pretty much need to extensively mod it IMO.

I amiably disagree -- the design elements of the giant game looks great (especially the dwarven areas) and there's plenty of variety in the landmass. I dont like at all the melee combat which is basically whack-a-mole. But the magic combat rocks.

My biggest complaint is that the game is too easy about 8 hours in and mods do help with that.

To be fair, the Dwarven ruins scenes from the first film are perfect and visually, Jackson nails Hobbiton.

Though Peter Jackson is completely entitled to change the source texts when adapting into film, I have only marginally enjoyed his Tolkien movies. As SMA says, too much CGI and the pacing and editing is choppy at best.

some complaints about Jackson:

1. the wizard battle in 2 Towers is just simply all wrong and 100% anticlimactic
2. The Ents were very very very very wrong in same film
3. Jackson's slant on the Elven race is jarringly off from start to finish. Where does one even start?
4. The eye: admittedly it is hard to pull that off visually but the "eye on a stick" presentation was unintentionally funny and totally jarring.

It is easy to complain but Jackson's films are all over the place.

I am fine with either as long as the engine does not rely on "cool-down timers"

The ginormous fan in the new xbox, gigantic case, and external power brick make a "design flaw cum meltdown" rather unlikely.

It is god awful ugly but it can dissipate heat.

This game was not as bad as the major reviewers suggested. The Giant Bomb review is closest to the truth. Terrible ending though.
