Oh the schadenfreude i will feel when Sony does some variation of the same thing with used games, mandatory disk installations, and required internet.
(not entirely serious because gaming matters to me, but I think some folks here are living in la-la land about sony's plans for its peer console).

Kha's post is the best here: couldnt agree more. I had consoles so I didnt have to use Origin or Uplay or games for windows. Now with all of the DRM in consoles, there's little point in owning the new consoles.
Ironically all of this console DRM is good news for Steam, which is another form of DRM, only less evil than the other DRMs. |

Folks, SONY will do some variation of this DRM stuff. How can you think otherwise?
SONY has doubled-back a few times now, so believe what comes out of SONY's PR staff at your own peril.

the thing is: my gadget savvy friends who dont play videogames already have some sort of "TV streaming gadget with attached or wireless storage" that works well for them. So that consumer group may not be interested in the streaming abilities of either the ps4 or xbox1.
We'll see in 2014. |

MS went "all poker chips in" with a "livingroom home entertainment system."
Not sure the typical non-gaming consumer will be all that interested in such a device?
it is a total pass for me in any case. |

DomGrief, have to disagree. Metacritic is so very disliked by game devs because it throws a small dose of reality in their faces every time they look at it. And they have to look at it because everyone looks at it.
That's why Warren so keenly wants it to be "irrelevant." Metacritic is TMI for game devs.
Yes of course the aggregate scoring is flawed but when thousands of gamers score a particular game, that starts to mean something.

| i suspect EA has something else up their sleeves that is just as onerous as the online pass and is directly related to the new consoles coming in the Fall. |

Ha! -- you guys should see the narrow FOV in the console version of Far Cry 3. It is like looking through the eye of a needle.
All in all, a narrow FOV isnt a deal breaker and the gameplay vids of Metro look like they created an interesting and immersive game. |

| yes but my point is that **game devs** have to look at the gamer scores whether they want to or not. They cannot escape it (because it is on metacritic). Hence, it drives game devs nuts that metacritic exists. |

I am not willing to compare the 2 guys because they are so completely different in virtually every way.
I will say that, since forever, Bill G reads like he has Asperger's. Folks like that drive me nuts.
His wife and aging seems to have tempered him for the better. |

Notably, Metacritic forces game devs to look at an aggregate of gamer's scores. Something that game devs generally dont bother doing or dont like doing.
And there it is on one web page that EVERYBODY knows about in the gaming industry.
That aggregate gamer score doesnt express everything important of course, but it says something about the desirability of a particular game to consumers.
Metacritic for all of its faults offers insights into the game consumer's mind that arent offered in any other way.
Warren should realize that metacritic can be a useful tool for game devs, if taken with a grain of salt. |

sci-fi is all about the **sustained** quality of writing and the use of real imagination, rather than using recycled plots. if good writing isnt there, then truly nothing can save the show. This is why Farscape, for all of its faults, was still entertaining sci-fi. This is also why "star trek enterprise" was bottom-of-the-barrel bad. |

i am a bit surprised sleeping dogs only sold 1.75 million units. Maybe it wasnt western enough for the west?
Then again, the very poor title choice of the game and the endless crapular DLC's didnt help. |
