News Comments > Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Announced

So they only interviewed the current crop of neophytes. The players that actually loved the beta(betas 3 through 5.2 played the best of any version) are still getting put by the wayside, as the complaining about the strength of SMGs was mentioned while the tweaked accuracy of the ARs was complained about. Clan play early on was a mixture of MP5, P90(added in beta 4 or 5), and some M4/AK. Beta 6 forward to now it's been mostly AWP/AK or bust, and relatively boring.

Good. This will spare shitty reviews and complaining about multi-hundred meg patches on release day. Go gold when it's ready

Well, some games die down over time. EVE is 8 years old and has grown every year. Not bad

He isn't wrong though, console and PC gaming have traded back and forth on which is "in" and which is "out" since they started. Right now we're really already in a time where the focus is on the PC.

I wouldn't go that far. Consoles still make the bulk of profits for most games. With the growth of digital distribution and the aging of console hardware, PC is receiving stronger focus than it has since 2006 but that's still a far cry from the glorious days of the 90's and early 2000.

With digital distribution and no licensing fees it's almost guaranteed that PC games have way better per unit margins, though. And even with physical distribution, it would still be better, just not that much better.

Who is this retard? Because I chose to play a medic to try and help my team that makes me a "newb"?

Perhaps you misunderstand the concept of Battlefield games.

You complained that it took too many hits from a weapon with a 100-200 shot clip with no cool down and a tactical scope to improve accuracy. I'd say that's being a newb. The biggest reason BF infantry has always sucked ass is because of LMG whoring

@Teddy
It has always been an option in BC2. It's considered a casual feature where as Hardcore servers have it disabled. 2D spotting is enabled via the map, but Hardcore doesn't have the mini map and you have to actually open your map to see the 2D spots. I only play on Hardcore mode in BC2 because I hate the 3D spotting and insane damage a player can take in casual mode. The Alpha was casual mode.

I had a total blast playing BF3! Now I'm wishing that prone could be added into BC2.

Only ever tried normal mode in BC2 once. As soon as I saw how many rounds it took from an LMG to kill someone, I logged off and went to hardcore, so I don't think I ever saw the 3d spotting in that game.

That said, I didn't find the damage model far off from Hardcore BC2 to the alpha for BF3. People died plenty fast in it, giving or recieving. The spotting was just silly when you could spam Q and have little arrows pointing out people you'd never have seen.

I get the intent of it, and sure it helps with teamwork, but it's far from balanced. It really needs to have a cooldown on the use of it, and have the range it will spot people limited so that they have to be closer to the crosshair for it to work. This "everything in the scope" stuff should be restricted to recon who have the spotting mod.

LMG whores are the worst whores. Seriously, die in a newb fire

Shit, you are correct I didn't think about that. *If you lived in California that would be a concern given our taxes here*

Technically speaking, even if you are outside of CA you are still liable for those sales taxes, but the states have no way of enforcing that(though some states require all online vendors to collect a flat sales tax, like NY). The income you make from it is subject to federal and state income taxes. Again, you're liable, just hard to enforce. You're liable when you sell stuff on eBay, too.

The whole intent of DirectX is to provide a unified interface and runtime.

.Net and Java have the same intent, yet you need almost always need each version and revision installed to run an application correctly under the version it was designed with/compiled under. This is not unprecedented, and it doesn't surprise me in the least.

The problem with Armegeddon wasn't that it was a Red Faction game, it was that it was a huge step down from the previous one. Imagine if the next GTA game were a completely linear 3rd person shooter. Would that go over well? I suspect it was THQ's attempt to save money that sabotaged the project in the first place.
Kinda like how TV companies will try and put TV series in a weird timeslot to try and have an excuse to kill it once the numbers drop from that weird timeslot.

You mean like Firefly? Fuck you Fox.

If you have a problem with Firefly you should take it to Whedon. Whedon's shows are made for WB, not big 4 network primetime. He should have went the STNG/Raimi&Tapert route of first run syndication. Show would probably have lasted 4 or 5 seasons that way

Babelfish translation:
It is not like that we are bad or stupid. We do not have selected no more player to have - we would make loving gladly 64 players on the console, but then we would have to cut so much off. Because otherwise the players would excite themselves that the console version looks many worse and plays themselves more badly. Perhaps besides one would have had to remove the vehicles. The maps will also fail a little more compactly: Do not say if we that they are smaller, meant that we halved it.

/reads like Borat, but Babelfish is de facto translation tool for the old school

Odd to use the Sega CD as the FMV standard on a PC gaming site. The PC was by far the home of FMV.

Recently in Red Alert, maybe, but what else? Mad Dog Mcree and Who Shot Johnny Rock were arcade first and consoles like Sega CD later. FMV was very prominent in the marketing of Sega CD games. Tomcat Alley, Sewer Shark, etc.

You realize Impulse got bought by Gamestop, right?

And I have no problem with that. They've done nothing to show me anything bad so far. Sure, they got rid of PC games in their stores, but if they get rid of PC games on Impulse what are they going to sell?

Steam does have similar searching and library visibility issues. There's so many games on Steam now it's almost impossible to browse it all coherently.

Not even that - at best a Steam page gives you a trailer, a few screenshots and a blurb. It's very hard, particularly with indie games, to get a valid feel from that alone.

If you're on Steam, you're on a computer with a web browser. I understand it's cool to want more features, but, seriously, how hard is it to search for more information on a particular title

I just saw a loaded dell system go on sale. If anyone doesn't have a computer that will run BF3 and doesn't want to build their own, this is a good deal for a gaming system.

Dell Inspiron 620 Slim Tower Desktop: Intel Core i5-2310 (2.8GHz), 6GB DDR3, 1TB 7200RPM HDD, Radeon HD 6450 1GB Graphics, Wifi-N, Win 7 Prem 64-Bit $500
More info on slickdeals:
Link

That's not much of a deal at all. The 6450 is basically worthless for gaming. It can barely run CoD, letalone BF3.

If you want to run BF3 at a decent resolution and framerate, you'll need at least a 4870.
Next time pick something in current production so I can get a price on it easier Newegg has no hits on a 4870 in graphics cards, and amazon is all third party merchants. ATI stuff has had confusing models for a while, so I haven't been tracking it that closely.

Anyway, graphics hierarchy chart:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card,2964-7.html
Says 4870 is 7th tier graphics card.
A quick check of a few other 7th tier graphics card shows you can get that kinda performance for under $100 currently without a sale.
In fact, last month a 5770 was on sale for about $75

So under $600 for a retail gaming box with a warranty. Toss the other graphics card in and done. Probably don't even have to change drivers.

Or build your own.
$185 intel quadcore sandy bridge i5-2300 current price
$100 for a decent sandy bridge motherboard that has USB 3 and SATA 6GB, current price

$60 for a 2TB hdd on sale, or 1TB current price.
$50 for 6GB DDR3, current price
$75 for a 5770 or similar 7th tier graphics card on sale.

Thats still $470, under $500 for a loaded setup with better specs than that dell. If you don't have a computer case, you might have to creep a bit over $500.

Or you can do the equivalent AMD.. spend 100 less on the proc, 20 more on the mobo for the same features and have another 4 or 8x pcie card for crossfirex
