They also note a motion by Interplay suggesting they are seeking to have their entire agreement with Interplay nullified

So Interplay is schizophrenic?

Pretty much tells me this game is going to cater to the most clueless of the casuals, far moreso than where WoW has been heading for the past few years.

Heading? Were you not aware that WoW was like that from the start?

These days, aside from titles like Minecraft, what is?

I'd heard this was a departure from the classic ridge racer, and seeing this video, it's quite apparent. Like RR crossed with Burnout or Split/Second.

It looks like FlatOut 3. Right down to the driver being ejected. Everything about this screams "FlatOut," less any offroading.

About time Bugbear got around to another game. Wish it was FlatOut 3, but Ridge Racer will do. I assume this means the rally/offroad mode is gone as well, which is sad.

I still secretly hope Reflections will release Destruction Derby 3 some day.

Do you notice that it opens up Battlefield on your taskbar? Try clicking that on your taskbar.

Heh yes, I noticed; I'm not that unobservant.

Clicking the taskbar icon pops up the window as if it's going to switch over, but it just stays an outlined window and never goes "into" the program no matter how long I wait. I've tried all the usual suggestions... Reinstalled game, Origin, drivers, MS framework, etc. and tried changing how I start it up (through Battlelog, through Origin, through shortcut) to no avail.

The really frustrating thing is that it worked the first day, then has done the same hanging since then, despite absolutely nothing having changed on my system since the first time.

So it doesn't get to the point of "logging in"?

Is this still an team-vs-team deathmatch FPS in a tank? I played quite a bit a few months ago, but got bored of the sameness of the maps. They really need some new game types, not maps.

Attack/Defend, historic(Tier/tank limited) battles, and Escort mode(only a few tanks are able to capture the point and must be escorted to the capture) are coming.

I would like to see CTF with scout tanks.

God Origin is an abortion. Getting it installed off the DVD was a nightmare because it didn't pick up the DVD and tried to download it from EA's awful Origin servers. Had to copy all ~14gigs to the HDD, replace the Origin installer files with the new installer, and run setup from there to get it to pick up. Then it required me to disable uPnP on my firewall and setup port forwarding to even log in(which no other game has ever required).
Actually, it just says "downloading" but it installs from the DVDs. After a while you get prompted to insert DVD2. I was caught out by this too, but when I realised it was "downloading" at 8 MB/s which is 5 MB/s more than my line can handle, I realised it was just Origin being dumb and actually not downloading.

I let it run overnight. Gained 5%. Doubt my dvdrom is that slow even under the worst circumstances.. Also tried at various points deleting the cache, rerunning setup off disk, running sub-executables off disk, etc. Only solution that worked was what I stated earlier

Does WOD deserve such back burner support?

I don't think it's so much about what WoD deserves as much as what CCP can dedicate to WoD while neglecting its primary income source, particularly when there is another game already in front of it in the dev pipe(Dust514)

Essentially, fluff.

But in the days where every MMO now pumps 50-100 million dollars (or much, much more in the case of ToR) worth of content into their system at launch, can you afford NOT to have it? Who's going to play an MMO that has a core game and that's it?

Creston

If you don't pump tens of millions into the game up front you do not need millions of subscribers to survive. This is how EVE works. It's how WoT works. It's actually how most F2P games work.

EVE survives on a few hundred thousand subs and has for 8 years(and they're currently at/around their highest subscription total). This is because they control costs. WoD will most likely follow that same path.

Look at Minecraft. Minecraft has very little capital invested in it, yet it's sold a ridiculous number of copies and it's technically still in beta. It's ugly. It has very little content. But the core gameplay is there and functional. People work around the fact that the fluff isn't there because the gameplay is. Just like any other good videogame.

The stuff that we plan on reducing on World of Darkness is mostly redundant content that is expensive to make

Yeah, because who has ever wanted MORE content in an MMO?

What they're reducing is probably artwork/design related, which is also the biggest bottleneck for EVE(because the team has been appropriated to WoD). When you talk about redundant things, you're probably talking about textures, models, city design, etc. Nice things to have, but expensive to design because they take a lot of time and do not affect any of the core functionality. Essentially, fluff.

Ultimately, WoD will probably take an EVE type release schedule. Consistently add more content with periodic free expansions.

As far as the naysayers talking about missing their shot, I'm not sure. It's a good concept that is not represented and, given CCPs stance on PVP, it would still be a standout among a group of other games simply because no one else has the balls to make games that are as anarchistic(granted WoD could be different than EVE in this regard). I'll wait and see.

I don't understand what exactly brought on the collective tantrum. Yeah, the virtual goods are a monumental waste, but if you're willing to pay real money for something that doesn't exist, you get what you deserve. You aren't forced to participate. The captains quarters are a non-issue, you still have the same access to the original interface. And again, you aren't forced to use it. From what I can see a bunch of crybabies rage-quit because they can no longer spin their ships in the hanger.

A bunch of stupid kids acted like EVE was run by Gaddahfi, Hitler, and Satan all rolled in to one, and then they joined in to a cyberprotest that was supposed to be like the ones of the Arab Spring. It was ridiculous and stupid. The trigger was some real money items, a leaked internal discussion piece, and some other crap.

Ultimately, it didn't change anything. Goons and Russians still rule the nullsec roost, bad alliances failcascaded, and the Thunderdome still lives.

On the bright side, I'm happy a bunch of annoying twats quit.

Seems cool. Purchased 2.. At $2, even if it's shovelware I'll get something out of it. If not, if it just goes to charity, so be it. It's only $2

That said, they're pushing it kind of close with the release date, which is in 7 weeks
