News Comments > Steam Stops Selling The War Z

I guess this makes me an idealist, but after reading the Gamespy interview and seeing the exec producer's cavalier attitude regarding deceiving the customer base, I can't see myself giving them money. They could take the whole game back to the drawing board, come back months from now with a much better product...and that slimy used-car salesman stink is still gonna bug me.

I get it, the genre is fun for some and I am not judging them for wanting to enjoy the game for what it is. I just don't want to knowingly support that type of business. The decision is made easier by the way the in-game store works. Losing loot you paid real money for upon death will get expensive quick, more expensive then I am comfortable with in this type of game.

I guess what I am not understanding is why people (on the Valve boards) would complain about it not working on anything other then what it claims to work on. I might be misinterpreting something, but the beta was intended for a specific version of Ubuntu. I don't know, maybe I am missing something, but I read the forums and people complain about having problems trying to use hardware and software that isn't supported by the beta...and I guess that just doesn't seem all that helpful in terms of the development process.

Don't misunderstand me, I get it...people want it to work on their preferred hardware and on their preferred flavor of Linux...but it makes sense to me that Valve would pick a particular direction, get it working on that...and then go from there. I mean, they don't have much choice...there are hell of a lot of options when it comes to the Linux platform and you can't develop for all of them at once.

The only other game I tried was World of Goo. It also ran just fine and with no problems.

I never used the install as my main rig, I just ran it when I had the spare time. I should have done more but just couldn't find the time. The holiday season is a terrible time to be trying to beta test anything..lol. I also used the Linux install for basic web browsing, email, etc with the Steam app in the background as a stability test. I would leave the machine running for a few hours and then come back and try loading SS3. It never froze up or crashed. I can't say it was a rigorous test, and there was nothing exotic about my hardware configuration...so I guess the stability of it shouldn't be that surprising.

I have been doing the beta for a couple of weeks and found it to be working smoothly...which amazed me for 2 reasons. One, I am a Linux newb who had to do a bunch of research, dig up a older rig out of the garage, install the OS for the first time in my life, and then install Steam without having actually used the OS for anything of real importance. The second reason was because the various forum threads have long posts from individuals who very much sound like they know what they are talking about and are reporting having multiple problems.

Lucky I guess. Was also cool to play Serious Sam 3 for the first time.

Huh? Headscratch

zombiefan pretty much pulls this in every thread about THQ. They apparently touched him in his special area or made him eat his own dog or some other such thing.

*clicks through post history*

Wow...Zombiefan, what did THQ do to you?

Even if I watched a gameplay video that made me think the game looked good....which I haven't, quite the opposite actually....there is no way I could get myself to give these people money. Just about any way I try to look at this mess it comes off as a money grab.

Sanchez is done. I really have no idea what Ryan was up to this year, so many opportunities to let Tebow prove himself after constant Sanchez fuckups. I'm all for loyalty and giving people a chance but Sanchez had enough rope to hang the whole team. Some people have been criticizing their offensive line but I feel like they're doing the best they can in spite of injuries and Sanchez.

I think not playing Tebow is Ryan reinforcing the perception that the problems with the Jets stem from Tannenbaum's personnel decisions: "It's not me, it's these crappy players."

And I'm not sure he's wrong about that either.

My point of view as well.

Also, if Sanchez was bothered by his team going after a 1st ballot Hall of Famer in the off season he needs to retire now and leave the sport. Any idiot knows that if you have ANY chance of landing a Peyton Manning you at least look into it unless your quarterback is also a first ballot Hall of Famer.

I'll be picking it up on the Steam sale. I think it should hit $5~$10, believe it was $9.99 on the last Steam sale.

It is 5 bucks on Amazon right now.

I wonder which will sell more: this or that TOR expansion below?

I am going to have to bet on the TOR expansion being the better seller.

..or something like that.

And 10 years for snagging a few pics? Come the fuck on. That's just insane.

"...posted revealing photos and other material on the Internet"

If all he did was steal the pics he probably wouldn't have gotten 10 years. Just saying, he didn't just hack their phones and whack off to some pics. He hacked their phones, stole their pics and info, and then broadcast it across the net. Ten years is just fine.

I find that whole "gonna get on my soapbox to tell everyone else to get off their soapbox and then follow it with a bit of Matthew 7:16" thing vaguely familiar....the style seems to remind me of someone...

Oh wait...Space Captain...is that you? *waves* Merry X-Mas bud!

All joking aside, (and it was a joke btw, you probably don't know who SC is since you are so new), I have found it interesting to read everyone's thoughts on the various issues surrounding the very tragic events of yesterday. I would agree that more people do need to take productive action to affect change, but discussion has it's merits and I would point out that action without a prior discussion is a not often a wise idea. It never ceases to amaze me how this "gaming site" attracts so many individuals from so many different backgrounds with many different political, cultural, and religious views. It is not the place I would first think of to find perspectives not otherwise available to me in my circle of friends and family, but nonetheless it does and can occasionally offer a very interesting insight. To me, discussion is severely underrated. It is not just communication, it is a coping mechanism....and a healthy one at that.

That is something I can agree with Batman...I found the loot itself to be just fine. I feel like I find upgrades for all of my various items at a pretty good pace. At least I do in BL2, I don't really remember if that was the case in the first one.

Seriously man? A typo crawls up your ass enough to bother commenting? I am going to leave it just for you. Think of it as an early ChRisTmaS present. If you want I can go through and capitalize other random letters in this post as well as an added bonus. If I knew it was this easy to bug you I would have started a long time ago.

I am one of the few people that liked Rage. (at least it feels that way based on the many posts/threads here since the game's release)

That said...good luck getting very many people to actually pay for this. A few of us fanboys will but considering iD still hasn't delivered the modding tools, how many problems the game had at launch, and the bogus ending....I just can't picture very many people being quite as forgiving as this admitted fanboy is.
