If you people would have played Natural Selection or Tremulous on a regular basis you'd actually be quite comfortable with FOVs between 90 and 120.
For me a FOV of at least 90 to 100 is a must in multiplayer games.

I hate to burst your bubble but when someone says "better" or "worse" it is automatically his or her opinion. It is generally not possible to confuse something like that with a "definitive" "better" or "worse" mostly because something "definitive" does not really exist.

True, 99.999% of the time... using better/best worse/worst is all subjective.

But there are objective scenarios:
  • Which has the better survivor rate: leukemia or a common cold?

  • Who's has the better batting average: guy with 450 average or the guy with a 100 average?

  • But I hear people say "Car X is better than Car Y" when they're comparing apples and oranges (compact coupe vs full sedan). It may be better for YOU but it's hard to grade X and Y when there are too many differences.

That is correct. However the, let's say batting average, is based on statistics which is an observable that everyone can agree on in case everyone lives in the same universe.
Still, even in this case people can redefine words like "good", "better" or "worse". We may think someone is crazy when he says that a batting average of 100 is better than of 450 but that is because that person may follow a different norm that we do or that the conditions which say what is good and what is bad are different.
For example: I actually like when it rains, when it is dark and cloudy and there is no sun shining and I have my reasons for that - and therefore I will call that good weather.
Other people think I am insane because for them good weather is when the sun is shining and everything is bright.

Wish there was a way that servers could filter out players over certain ranks. It sucks that I can't dedicate my life to this game and am only rank 8 and get my ass handed to me constantly by 35+ers out there.
There is an easy fix for that, though unfortunately you may not like it.

Don't play FPSs with unlocks and levels. Frankly, the genre is not suited for that. There's plenty of excellent FPSs out there that are way better than Battlefield and CoD. You just need to spend a little time finding them.

Unless, of course, you like to spend hours and hours of not-fun game time just to ungimp yourself.

i agree. everything unlocked from the get go. its just tailored/or better suited to the hardcore nuts. the fun and enjoyment is not there for the casual gamer.

That's a pretty laughable statement. CoD sells 20 million units a game these days, Battlefield 3 has already sold 8 million. The majority of those are not "Hardcore gamers". Those ARE the casual gamers and they've proven in droves that they like unlock systems.

You want to play with everything unlocked, then play on unranked servers. That's what they're there for.

As for the previous comment "There's plenty of excellent FPSs out there that are way better than Battlefield and CoD." Don't confuse YOUR OPINION of games with a definitive 'better' or 'worse'.

I hate to burst your bubble but when someone says "better" or "worse" it is automatically his or her opinion. It is generally not possible to confuse something like that with a "definitive" "better" or "worse" mostly because something "definitive" does not really exist.

OK, so it's "harmful to young persons". Alright. But this makes it not available to adults, too. What has this to do with protecting young people? Isn't that censorship? Is censorship legal in Germany, like in China, Iran, and North Corea?

In Germany censorship is just as legal as in the United States, Australia, Great Britain or any other country in the world - that is: as long as it fits those in power or some lobby group they will do it.

However this is slightly confusing because I do not really see who could profit from banning that game.

Yes, I also had a similar impression. Apart from the battery life the article does not seem to talk about any real issues, even going as far as throwing around buzz words like "user experience" and then complaining about one's own inability to "un-install" something.

    This article is stupid.

    [edit]
And btw: there are also strict limitations given by nature on how long batteries can last. You cannot raise the charge forever without big advances in such a field and even then it just ends at some point.

I do not wish to "cut down anyone with a differing opinion" however I have a problem with when people immediately call everything that does not fit their standards of capitalism socialism or communism and use these two different systems interchangeably.
And why, all of a sudden, do you refer to the Soviet Union?

Okay, so which one is it now? Because in a communist society EVERYONE works and saying that that they want a communist society but do not want to work is a contradiction. Either they do not want to work or they want communism so please make up your mind.
Also, way to show that you have no idea idea about either communism or socialism by using those words interchangeably.

Anno's definitely have a following. I never payed any attention to them until Dawn of Discovery. I think I might have to re install it actually.

    I know.
As far as I know they are especially big here in Germany which is not necessarily surprising since it is developed by a German company and, from what I understand, it is also a very decent series.

Oh how I loved the old mineshaft. Especially when the source file for it was lost and it was dropped form the list of official maps.
Some servers still had it but it was not the same anymore, mostly because people stopped playing it.
Sadly this looks nothing like the old mineshaft.

Yes, exactly. These freezes and the controls were horrible. Made the game much harder than it should have been whereas I had no such problems when playing Saints Row 2.
I will not say that it ran very good or even good but the performance was quite okay, cannot say that about Alpha Protocol.

AP and Saints Row are completely different games. AP was definitely a better port than SR2. Whether it was a better game is completely up to your personal tastes.

I did not mean the gameplay, I mean the port.
People generally complain about the port of SR2 and, at least that is the impression that I have, seem to be of the opinion that Alpha Protocol is a better port. Which in my opinion it is not.

Of course it's a console port, they would be idiots to do anything else. It can be a GOOD console port though.

The last Saints Row game on the PC was one of the worst ports ever made, at its most playable state it made other terrible console ports seem like pc exclusive Blizzard titles.

In my opinion it was much better than Alpha Protocol. I tried to like Alpha Protocol but I couldn't but I loved Saints Row 2.
Yes it was not a good port but either I have much lower standards (which cannot be since I am pretty much a PC elitist) or we played a different game because yes - there were bugs and other short-comings but they did not keep me from enjoying the hell out of that game.
