3. If you are playing Duke Nukem you are enjoying some form of real Metal (no, Nu Metal is not Metal).

Oh and thanks for the unnecessary reference to music since it always brings even more rage to any discussion. That was uncalled for. |

Well let's see... You said that "It's usually a tacked-on mediocre rehash of the same old." - I don't really see how that doesn't apply to Battlefield 3. It has been done, everything has been done. There is nothing new anymore. The aim in developing a good multiplayer game should be sorting out balancing issues and netcode nowadays. Then you said "The novelty of "look ma there are multiple people on my screen shooting at me and they're REAL HUMANS" wore off in 1998" - and yes, that also still applies to Battlefield 3 because you still run around with real humans and not much has changed. Finally you said "disturbingly realistic", that is an objectification. You use the real world as a scale to measure realism (at least that is what I assume because you did not specify; the real world, for example, is disturbingly realistic) but in your second post all of a sudden you're comparing it to other games. Why you would compare the realism of something like Battlefield to Unreal Tournament is beyond me, though.
If developers want to innovate the multiplayer so badly why don't they take Natural Selection, Tremulous, Savage or gloom as an example? Those have real innovation, not that pseudo-innovation seen in RO:HoS2 or BF3. |

The novelty of "look ma there are multiple people on my screen shooting at me and they're REAL HUMANS" wore off in 1998, so there has to be actual GAMEPLAY behind it.
BF3 will have solid multiplayer (if you're into the disturbingly realistic kind) because it's primarily a multi game. [...] Contradict much?
shihonage wrote on Jul 22, 2011, 13:50: I rather don't care for multiplayer in 99% games. It's usually a tacked-on mediocre rehash of the same old. [...] If I had a lousy aim and a shoddy movement (which I actually have) I'd say that, too.
shihonage wrote on Jul 22, 2011, 13:50: [...] BF3 will have solid multiplayer (if you're into the disturbingly realistic kind) [...] Now that one confuses me. Have you actually played the Battlefield games? How is that disturbingly realistic? |

These are sad times indeed when one has to dismiss an id game because of the lack of a proper multiplayer. Oh id, where did it all go wrong? |

The characters look like shit, however. And why does everything you can pick up GLOW?? Can console players really not figure out that ammo on the ground can be picked up if it doesn't fucking glow?
Grumble.
I'm probably still getting it. The environments alone would make it worth it for me.

Console gamers are like crows. They like shiny things. Although the comparison is not fair towards crows because they can probably outwit an average console gamer. Those crows are dangerous man. |

I still have it and plan to check it out again but why did it fail so bad? Is it because team deathmatch in CoDW2 (whatever it's called) came out at that time? [...] It failed because there was little to none post-release support. Another thing is that Activision pulled it from the store shelves only two years or so after the game's release. It's a shame, really. The game was really good and really fun, though maybe not as fast as the original Enemy Territory but that's probably because the latter used the Quake 3 engine while the former was built around the Quake 4 engine which has a bit slower movement than Quake 3. |

I play all my fighting games with the keyboard, thank you very much. Controllers are just a silly gimmick. (: That's a bit silly. Different control schemes are optimal for different games. A racing wheel is ideal for racing games. A flight stick is ideal for flight sims. An arcade/fighting stick is ideal for fighting games. Mouse and keyboard are ideal for shooters, strategy games, hack 'n slash and any game that requires micromanagement or quick and precise aim. With racing games and flight simulators you have a point. A racing wheel or a joystick is definitely the better solution for these kind of games but I still don't agree when it comes to arcade or fighting games. I never had a console and always used keyboard and mouse, for everything. It would be too much of a nuisance to learn the finer nuances of playing with a gamepad and I don't see why I should bother if using keyboard and mouse works perfectly (if it's implemented properly - at the moment I am playing Assassin's Creed 2 and the fixed camera angles that you have with some climbing sequences is a REAL pain). |

It's certainly a lot of fun but I think nethack is still better. You can walk diagonally in nethack, for example. If you are cornered and surrounded by enemies this could get you out, if you are lucky enough but it seems that it's just not possible in this game. And the field of view is too small for my liking.
Apart from that it's a great game and a lot of fun! |
